Absolutely shocking. It's worth watching one episode purely for comedy and if you like self-harming.

Watched the first episode, but the series don't even try to follow the Tolkien story.

I agree some movies and tv shows add extra content to be unique, but this is exagerated.

They did a good work on music and picture, but the content is not good.

I costumi: decisamente orribili e mal fatti

The good

the settings
the music

The Bad

The story: (has nothing of the epicness of Peter Jackson's movies or the original book trilogy)
Galadriel: horrible as a character, selfish, vindictive, always angry, almost evil (I remember that Tolkien's elves are creatures of light, therefore good) I can safely say that if there was a female aspect of Sauron that would surely be the Galadriel of the Rings of the power, without considering when she is strong, almost a goddess, she killed a troll alone, when in the movies a troll ha sput the whole company in serious difficulty
The costumes: definitely horrible and badly made

Because it's a blatant corruption of Tolkien's work, which was intended to be a timeless celebration of English myth and lore. Amazon has turned it into a vehicle for modern, anachronistic political messages that fly in the face of Tolkien's intent. And they know it, because they did it on purpose. This show makes the Hobbit trilogy look like an incredibly accurate, masterpiece adaptation. It's also amazing that they could spend this much money and end up with something this cheap-looking. Expand

After seen Galadriel Swimming the ENTIRETY of the Sundering Seas, which is as big as the Atlantic Ocean, was the most absurd and entraining things. Should not be taken serious by any means.
This mockery of a series could only be a creation by committee, helped by Bezos inputs and checkmarks on a diversity quota checkboard. Are you searching for a soul here? You'll get none, but you'll get product. And boy, this product sucks.
From Gandalf Falling fron the skies on a capsule and lifting rocks with his KI, Dragonball Z's style, to Elfs that despite seeing in the darkness using lamps to light the way. The sheeer amount of nonsense is enough to make you laugh for one week. Best thing thogh, they release two episodes of this crap. Expect to be laughing until the second half of the month.
This is the best thing ever done. 10/10. Unless you're looking for a good show. Then, go see something else in another time, in another dimension. 2022 has nothing for you yet.

Characters are directly not related to the Tolkien versions of the same people. An absolute farce. Galadrial is in places she never was, doing things she never did... And saying words fundementally against what real Galadrial would say and do. Elrond is nothing but a lazy anti war Politician now... Not the greatest of the Elven Warriors to possibly ever exist... And it seems to absolutely ignore the fact Elrond is basically Galadrials Grandson and very much heeds her advice and wisdom... Not in this show. Just terrible... The molestation of Tolkien. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ep.3-4: Halfway through season 1 a short update. Did it get better? Not really, but it got a bit more interesting. While I hate Guyladriel with a passion, her Numenor storyline is kind of watchable. I actually enjoy the dwarfs, at least these grumpy guys have an attitude. Harfoots are unwatchable, episode 4 was the best so far, for the simple reason, it had none of these little cringe buggers. Don't know what to make out of the Arondil(?) story, it is dumb, but it has a few good scenes and I actually find Adar(?) intriguing. So what's keeping me from promoting this to a glorious 3 or even 4? Immigration politics, Numenors haven't seen elves in at least centuries, 5 minutes after seeing 1(!!!) they rant about losing their jobs to immortal, never tiring elf workers.

Ep.1-2: First of all, this thing looks really, really amazing, apart for a few moments, where it looks really cheap. That's kinda odd, so much money and armor looks like cheap plastic. All in all though, the look is too clinically clean, especially in battles, why is there no blood? I also like the soundtrack, it's good, not amazing, but good. I also have to say I like the idea, I kinda get what Amazon wanted to do, before they decided to hire an incompetent crew.

Everything else is... really bad. The whole story is rushed, after the prologue I had no idea what is going on and I feel, that a way better story (defeat of Morgoth) was wasted. Characters range from dumb to bland to fu... annoying (hello there harfoots), most dialogues are really hard to bear, so much cringe there. Many scenes are a disaster like free climbing an ice covered mountain in plate armor, or jumping of a ship in the middle of the ocean, or not leaving directly after an orc attack... Rings also follows a common trend these days, so far I have seen one unlikeable Mary Sue (hello there Galadrial) and one very strong women (hi Bronwyn) and an army of stupid, useless men. As a male viewer I can't help but feel insulted.

All in all, watch it for the eye candy it is, but don't do it sober. And don't expect to be entertained, maybe turn it into a drinking game? Every time you cringe, get a shot.

At the core of any production is the script. No amount of lipstick can amend a compromised story. Unfortunately, the same downfall to the last seasons in Game of Thrones is at play in the Rings of Power.

For any writer, this would be the most challenging task of their lives to stand in the ring with the Professor. It's painfully apparent that the production suffers from the Dunning-Kruger effect. The script is fraught with issues ranging from pacing, positioning, characterization, and pail attempts at sounding Tolkienian. Characters behave in ways that the plot demands but are unbelievable when you think about it. No sane person would attempt to swim across an entire ocean on their own!

The greatest flaw of this show is that it fails to be escapism. This is mostly the marketing's fault for being hyper-fixated on what should be the least important aspect of a fantasy journey. If RoP survives to future seasons, I can only hope that Amazon stops trying to lean on allegories to the modern-day as a crutch (and shield) for the subpar writing.

The producers of this show seem to have taken Tolkien's works, cut them into slivers, thrown them into the air, caught a small handful, and randomly assembled them into a new story they can use as a platform for 21st century themes. The landscapes and the overall film look is ok, there's no problem in those. But the plot and the actors are really awful. It looks like a childish D&D movie, not for serious fans.

It looks like a cheap version of Lord of the Rings and I hope Amazon will create a new series with a serious approach rather than this high-school drama.

Even rewatching the episodes as a fantasy removed from anything Tolkien, it still hurts.
I appreciate the choice of Lady Galadriel, as she resembles the Jacksons' one in her visage (albeit if not in her behaviour). You can see the monetary value in its visuals (despite the characters appearing separated from their environment), but it is a soulless husk.

note: I hope I will have to change my review with the coming of new episodes, but I have my doubts...

What you can see is that billions were spent on the series, but I saw a number of things that seem more amateurish than something that was extremely careful. Some of them:
- The ice stalactites, at the beginning, are very similar and don't look like they were generated by "nature".
- While the characters climb the mountain, they don't do any strength, neither in the arm nor in facial expressions. They look like they're on something with zero gravity.
- The scene where there is a big tree is visually beautiful, but the background looks disconnected and gives the impression that it is in a studio.
- When the "comet" falls, the fires around the crater don't look like they started organically. They look like they were placed and places almost lined up.
- When they are on the boat, an extremely bright light hits the characters' faces, however, the background appears to be from somewhere else, as it does not receive the same light. I can't focus on the story because this kind of failure causes me to scatter.
Worst of all, and it has been a flaw in many movies today, is the story change. I wanted to watch it to see Tolkien and not the interests of some big company behind the production.

It had everything to go right, however, they threw it all down the drain and destroyed, right away, what could be the best series of all time. They turned the series into one of the worst. Every dollar spent on its production was wasted.

I was very skeptical after the first trailers, but still wanted to give the whole series a chance, and here is my first feedback after the first 2 episodes:

I'm struck by the fact that the developers actually took a bit of a look at the Lord of the Rings lore. Unlike Peter Jackson's movies, the events of the first age are addressed here (albeit briefly). Important events such as the destruction of the 2 Trees of Valinor and the subsequent war against the dark ruler Morgoth.

About the story:
The story is mostly true to lore (so far). What is new is that Galadriel tries to avenge her brother Finrod Felagund, who was killed by Sauron in the first age. In itself a good idea, in the books Finrod was just dead and no one cared, the war just went on. Here, on the other hand, a little more importance is given to this actually important figure. However, the developers also made some stupid mistakes: the half-elf Elrond, for example, was excluded from a meeting of the royal council in the first episode because he is not a full-blooded elf...WHAT? Elrond is the great-grandson of Turgon, the predecessor of King Gil-Galad as High King of the High Elves. NEVER would they dare exclude him from a council meeting, for he is the rightful heir to the throne should Gil-Galad die! If you can overlook these mistakes, you get an entertaining fantasy adventure - but I've only seen the first two episodes, so beware, I don't know if there won't be worse mistakes in the upcoming episodes. However... the war against Morgoth is over and the free rulers of Middle-earth are preparing for a time of peace (just like in Tolkien's The Silmarillion).

So is the series well or rather poorly realized?
Difficult question... actually, it's mediocre at best.... Why? Well, Amazon has decided to make some modern adjustments to the characters. For example, the elven princess Galadriel is now suddenly a warrior (representing the strong woman in the main role) and in principle there is nothing wrong with that, BUT there is one problem: Galadriel is actually a witch and NOT a warrior. I can understand why Amazon chose this path, BUT to rewrite, replace or as happened here, rob already existing characters of their identity for ideological reasons is an absolute no-go.

My suggestion to Amazon: If you need characters in the future to represent certain groups of people or want to do inclusion for ideological reasons, please invent a new character, like you did with the elf Arondir for example. Please don't change existing characters that are loved by the fans....

I was expecting House of the Dragon to be bad due to the way GoT ended, but I was presently surprised. I was expecting Rings of Power to be excellent and have been disappointed so far. The first two episodes were slow, the CGI that everyone is raving about looks like a video game and there are plenty of shows with POC in lead roles for me to watch so there's nothing "special" here. Most of the characters with the exception of Durin and Elrond are boring so far. Well, I can't prove that. What I saw is some nice CGI, some partly good music and a refreshing diversity even though one needs to mention that female dwarfs, black or white, indeed have beards. But then ... the dialogues, the dialogues are so ridiculous, so abysmal hideous that it pains the viewer and evokes Fremdscham in children-spectators. The characters are shallow, the elves are not distinctive at all, the acting is wooden and the language does not as most elements of the series reflect Tolkien's work. At one point a Harfoot wants to express that she can't communicate with fireflies and says: "I don't speak fireflies" - I'm not kidding you, that's what she said. It's horrible and an insult to intellect of any kind. There are in fact so many flaws that one watches with ones jaw dropped down. Old elves? Tired elves? Elves that move without any grace at all while speaking silly and sloppy english? Galadriel without wisdom and Elrond giving the impression of a clown. What a major sorry effort this is and a shame to be associated with JRR Tolkien. My friend's 12 year old daughter asked why the elves don't speak elvish at all :D Expand

*Maybe here my review wont be DELETED*

Really Amazon? You think by deleting bad reviews your bloated abomination of a show would be saved?

People are aware so better revaluate your strategy because gaslighting your audience doesn't work anymore.

Imagine a reality where a 'Game of Thrones' spinoff is MILES more compelling (as of now) than the most expensive show of all time.

The sets look (sometimes) great. That's it. The acting is flat, the charactrrs are frustrating, GUYladriel is insufferable and the wtiting (you know, the foudation of a story) is catastrophic.

Congratulations! You baught an ip!
Now you feel what happens when you smear its name and what it stands for.

Tolkein fans will keep going. This will NEVER go away.

If only you've respected his legecy.

The show looks mostly good, yes, but the pacing is bad, camera work is dull (there is pretty much no narrative behind shots). Character introductions are absent, amount of exposition is enormous, leading to believing that shows thinks that the audience is stupid and can't understand things from context. Everything needs to be explained, even if the explanation makes no sense for the characters as they either know it already (the moment when Elrond is telling Celembrimor what Silamriles were) or there is no possible way of them knowing things (Galadriel being Sherlock Holmes in the Sauron`s stronghold). The show has lots of silly moments like the fight with a troll when only Galadriel was able to solo kill it, even though the Party was in search of Sauron, so I wonder how they wanted to deal with him if the ice troll is such a problem. Or when Galadriel chooses to jump ships and swim all the way back by herself, even though is hundreds of miles away from the Middle-Earth. I understand that showrunners wanted to make her badass with all of these "creative" decisions but it really made her silly. What is also visible is that writers couldn't write intelligently conversations to make people look wise and eternal, so they chose to either force poetics in every dialogue in a way that sounds more like a recitation than conversation, or to make everyone else stupid, so that main characters would shine.

Not to mention other Lore-breaking moments like no Celebor, Warrior-Galadriel, time condensation, two Durins at the same time, Meteor-Man, elves looking more like Wither's elves than Tolkien's, hobbits in Second Age. So far my favourite characters are Arondir and Disa, so hopefully, my opinion about the quality and lore-breaking problems won't be marked as racist. Overall, it is just sad.

The first episode is terrible. Not only am I not interested in the characters, but it seems to be a perversion of the characters that Tolkien introduced in his books. The plot is disjointed, hard-to follow and you keep waiting for something to happen. And nothing really ever does.....
The second episode is better, but again, I found myself not really caring about any of the characters. Why is it called the Rings of Power? We still don't know.
Dry, or overly smarmy acting, and a slow, plodding, hard-to-follow plot. Character development and the story itself seems secondary (or even tertiary) to the show's focus on landscape shots and CGI special effects. It's like the producers realized that the show wasn't making much sense, so "Hey, we need to throw in a magnificent landscape shot!" or "Let's add some more CGI here!" to distract the viewer from the bumbling plot and rather diffident character development.
I'll probably watch the next episode (or two), but something needs to happen pretty quickly.
It's not very good so far.

No, I'm not giving it a 1 because of the inclusivity. I could have overlooked that if it had any redeeming qualities. I'm giving it a 1 because it was plain awful.
