It's all about the writing, in this case, and the utter lack of depth, or inner life, or suggestion that anything of particular interest might be happening here.

“The Last Thing He Told Me” doesn’t bother to be escapist fun. It’s plodding to the extreme, wasting the talents of almost everyone involved—the one exception being that I would watch Aguilera in a cop show.

It also doesn’t help that Garner’s performance seems limited to a narrow range of expressions that reach from “confused” to “very confused”. ... The other characters are similarly underwritten and uninteresting, sometimes to an insulting extent.

Pacing too slow, and the main character spends anywhere between 50-75% of every episode on the phone to various people. Garner's performancePacing too slow, and the main character spends anywhere between 50-75% of every episode on the phone to various people. Garner's performance was meh, very static at times.. single expressions.
Couldn't really hold my attention, story took too long to develop, could probably wrap this up in a 2 hour movie rather than a long winded season.
There wasn't any depth to anything, characters made stupid and irresponsible decisions disregarding common sense (drum this down to terrible writing in an attempt to advance the pace and wrap it up quickly).
It's been a long time since I've seen a series that was utter trash.
I'm surprised Apple greenlit this series.. It's absolutely terrible.
