Why are they making a series based on a play that most people already know by heart. I didn't see much of a reason. After all, I've played the first episode of The Last of Us more than once, so the story doesn't surprise me anymore, and more importantly, this isn't a game anymore, so I can't even be entertained by the gameplay. On the one hand though, I'm quite pleased with the finale, because at least there was something extra at times that wasn't in the game, so there's a little something new, but otherwise it's mostly the same. It's hard to say what I think of this series. I'll start with the good stuff. It was really nice to watch. The camera angles, the environmental shots. Nice. I also liked the casting of Joel as Pedro Pascal. Bella Ramsey was cool too, just not as similar in appearance to the cast, but what can you do. Now I'll move on to the worst part, and for me that was the 3rd episode about Bill, which I didn't enjoy and take as unnecessary. Well, the rest of it was great. So I'll just reiterate that it's something I've already experienced in the game and I don't see any reason to show it again especially after the PS5 remake came out, where the graphics are already so hilarious that you get just that movie feel in the cut-scenes. I personally would only recommend The Last of Us series to those who haven't played the game. If you've already played the game, then I don't see it from my perspective to watch the series, which while it showed something new here and there, for me, nothing worth the investment of a few hours of watching. Still, since it was nice to watch and was well made in my opinion, I enjoyed it and thought it was great. However, I repeat that I still don't really see the point in making this series. I could have done without it. I only recommend it to those who haven't played the game. Expand

Great show. The first three episodes were definitely my favorites. The quality was not consistent after the third episode but it was still very good. Would recommend even if you didn't play the game before.

Good so far, well acting and a gorgeous scenery. They changed a few things compared to the game, mostly less interacting with the zombies (probably has to be done, because another obstacle every 5 minutes works for a game but not a TV show) and expanded the stories for a few side characters. Although I have to agree the series is much slower than anticipated and to cover the side stories to such a great extent was also a suprise. In parts a bit too boring, but writers choice is understandable. But the tone is always right, it manages to catch good and obvious bad events that can happen in a apocalypse.
However, what really is funny are the reviewers on this side giving the show a zero rating because they don't know that there are gay characters in this show. I mean, they claim to have played the game, and these characters are gay there too. It really is interesting to see how many people don't know the basic story of the game or are just that unobservant while playing. Nothing could be funnier than seeing these people complain about woke agenda and wrongfully claiming these characters are straight in-game. FYI, the first part has a DLC, try to play it. And yes, it was more subtle in the game, but regarding sex and blood HBO has not the reputation to be subtle. And complaining about the ethnicity of a character when this just doesn't matter for its storyline, this is also ludricous, especially when it reflects modern society better this way. You should give this show a try. Knowing the story of the game hasn't ruined it for me, although it is very predictable because of it. When you like the show, it is also probably worth it to try out the game, since its tone and story development is quite different, but both products do it well enough.

Now that I have watched episode one twice, it's a relief to me on how well this is done. The casting is very fitting overall, I particularly like Bella Ramsay as Ellie: different looks than the character in-game, but the portrayal seems quite right. Glad the producers didn't opt for a generic teenage beauty, which is often the go-to choice. Set pieces hit the tone of the world fine. Pacing is mostly OK, but I wished for more lengthy beats to aid the weight of the atmosphere in some places. Fantastic beginning scene that sets the stage. The plot deviates in a minor way from the game, in some moments where that happens, I felt that it added something to the telling of the events. Overall a well-constructed story arc. The episode is scary when it wants to be. Excited about this so far, really looking forward to next Sunday and how the series will progress. Expand

I thing is doing amazing job trying to recreate the game in real life so if you not play the game at all and watch the tv show instead stop with the writing, play the game then you might actually get what the TV show is or a bat

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why do people complain about The last of us. Simple modern television has become pretty cookie cutter it tells a story with love, but people look to love and love by its definition has become very fresh with gay love becoming a staple to satisfy youth and the media. Now my opinion is the last of us hits the nail on the head and satisfies the June 14, 2013 game release. Pedro Pascal nails a new version of Joel flat at times and Bella Ramsey is elegant. I think some of the show's minor issues are the fact that it feels like it needs to soar to a place instead of let it sit, and in some moments it does that, but near the end of the show in its final episode setting up that sequence of the game we see Joel mindlessly shoot through an entire hospital the change being they all die. In the game Joel runs out of the hospital with a knocked out Ellie as he is chased by the fireflies this time he just walks like The Winter Solider and slaughters them all. I feel like this scene could've worked with a bit more time in just the whole episode it could've been only 54 minutes, and I would've enjoyed it either way. Bella Ramsey was hated the moment they saw her face, and I never doubted for a second that someone who looks different than a video adaptation could play almost the same character as played masterfully by Ashley Johnson. The Last Of Us suffers from a short run time ending which sinks a bit of my enjoyment, but its amazing supporting and lead cast satisfy the need for judgment. 8.3/10 is what I give this show and I find the wait for part II's adaptation all the more exciting Expand

It's the best show ever made based on a video game, period.

The first episode certainly set the bar high! The talk show segment was a great addition. It gives the viewers some more information about this world and the story we're about to watch unfold. I was quite skeptical when they announced a TV show adaptation. However, I must say that I’m extremely over the moon with how incredible everything has been from the get-go. The casting, acting, script, storyline and attention to detail is spot on. I immediately picked up on all the small things that were included from the game and it’s those minor things that make such a huge impact. The actors perfectly capture the essence of the video game characters and really bring back that sense of nostalgia as if playing the game for the first time all over again. The core strength of this show lies in the simplicity of the plot.Contrary to how it's made like the production design is one of the best. The details are mind-blowing.

The music is simple yet impactful. The pacing and the music just every thing. It's like the music producer feels the scene.

Well done to all involved in the production and thank you for making it so alike the game. This is what we wanted, and you all delivered I can't wait for the next Season!!!

Controversial adaptation of the original story.

It starts very good but the longer the show goes the more negatives you start noticing. While in the original everything happened smoothly and logically, in the TV show too much was taken out of context. So great and fully authentic scenes and dialogues are mixed with poor and empty storytelling, which spoils everything.

Some of the episodes are so empty and feel so unimportant to the main storyline that you can just skip them entirely or the most part of them and won't really feel missing something in the end.

It either feels that the show is trying to follow the primary source very close, but at the same time it doesn't quite catch its soul. If it really did, it would be top notch as the original was.

So I wasn't remotely surprised when a TV show adaptation was announced. I was worried as video game adaptions tend to be fairly poor for the most part. Does The Last of Us HBO show fall into the video game adaption curse or does it survive by being a good adaption?

One of the most important elements of adapting a video game is retaining all the core elements that made the game great. In terms of this, the HBO show is successful. The main core of the plot, the characters, the relationship, and the tone are all in this adaptation. The show does make changes from the game but I find the changes to be mostly good. For example, deeper meaning for Joel leaving QZ, exploration of Bill and Frank's backstory, Sam and Henry's plot, and Tommy and Joel's relationship. A lot of the changes give more depth to the characters and the worldbuilding. The set design is terrific and captures the exact feeling of the games. The makeup and design of the infected are creepy as they should be. Every scene with the infected is exciting with the memorable mansion scene being an awesome watch.

In terms of casting, Pedro Pascal is great as Joel. He retains the hardened, spiteful nature of Joel from the games but there are some differences. There is a lot of subtle warmth and vulnerability in his performance which leads to an emotional scene in episode 6 that isn't in the games but has a lot of impact. I was sceptical about Bella Ramsay as Ellie at first. Ellie in the game comes off as naturally witty and sarcastic but Bella's performance can feel a bit forced. It didn't help that her character is written as way more hostile compared to the game. However, I warmed up to her a lot by the end as Bella delivers on the more emotional and heart-warming scenes. Some of the best moments in the show are the quiet moments between Joel and Ellie which is thanks to the great chemistry between Pedro and Bella. The supporting cast does a great job as well with special praise to Nick Offerman as Bill, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene and Gabriel Luna as Tommy. The biggest surprise in the supporting cast was seeing the original Joel and Ellie voice actors in substantial supporting roles as new characters where they show how great of an actor, they both are.

Nonetheless, I do have some gripes with this show and one of them is the lack of infected; especially in the second half. For a world that has supposedly been taken by this virus, we don’t get enough scenes with the infected. It gets jarringly obvious in the second half where I wondered if they just ran out of budget. In the game, there is a fair amount of downtime between Joel and Ellie after combat. The show doesn’t have a lot of these downtime scenes and because of that the relationship between the two doesn’t feel as strong and believable. It also disappoints me how rushed the finale was as it was incredibly short with a lot happening. It felt like the show needed an episode where it was just Joel and Ellie spending time together which would’ve made the finale has more impact. Episode 3 is no doubt one of the more memorable and hopeful episode in this show that is mostly doom and gloom. However, this episode feels like filler in the overall scheme of things. I had a similar issue with episode 7 which was just one entire flashback that was very slow-paced and dragged on for too long. Both of these episodes lacked our main characters interacting which is what this show needed more of.

Overall, this is a good adaptation of the video game. It’s not perfect but it does manage to convey the necessary story elements effectively in a TV show format. As someone who has family members who aren’t as into video games as me; this TV show is a great way to allow them to experience the story as well. I’m interested to see season 2 of the show. Whether they adapt the sequel or go in a new direction, I’ll be there to watch.

So, for a gamer, The Last Us as a series... is alright. No surprises. Solid acting, solid script. I need to see how the series develops but I admit that I lost interest in the zombie genre a few Walking Dead seasons ago. The Last Us series could be great but it might be 10 years too late. Good, but not great interpretation of the source material.

On the upside, it sticks pretty close to the source material and focuses mainly on Joel and Ellie's realtionship.

On the downside, there are a lot of minor flaws that hamper the overall impact of the show. None is huge in itself, but together, they do deduct from the overall experience. If I'd point our one thing, is that the 9 episodes (and only really 6) weren't quite enough to flesh out Elli and Joel's relationship. It needed a tighter script to really make it work. The game has you spend roughly 20 hours together, while the show barely makes it 5.

The show focuses more on the danger of human corruption than hordes of infected that you fight off in the game. The cinematography, acting, music, directing, and screenplay are all excellent and seeing a video game adaptation have this much quality is refreshing since other video game adaptations have been rather bad until now. Where the show falters is the pacing from episode to episode and the overall writing for the season. It starts out strong but eventually things start to feel rushed and ultimately leaves you unsatisfied with how quickly everything gets wrapped up. Also, I don’t mind a zombie, or for the show's sake a “infected” tv show to not have infected as the main focus, but I feel that they went too far with this idea, and it made infected feel nonexistent, and the world feel empty and safe. I tried being as unbiased as possible to the show since I have played the game, but I can’t hide the fact that I was very disappointed the longer the show went on. I loved the beginning and I thought we were about to have one of the best shows ever, oh how I was wrong. I don’t mind changes to the story to better adapt to tv, that’s understandable, but this show easily could have been 11-13 episodes long and it would have been perfect. The farther along we got the more was cut from the story and the more infected fights were left out. In the game the final mission was emotional and tense where the final episode for the show felt dry and quick. I couldn’t believe how fast they rushed everything and even cut things out that was in the game at the end. This ruined the experience for me especially since they started out so well. Why wouldn’t you just stay as close as possible to the original story, it doesn’t make sense. Now my average is an 8, but since I have played the game and saw the potential of what this could have been I have to give it a 7. That rushed last episode really bothers me and it’s more disappointing than anything especially since the first episode hit me hard emotionally just as the beginning of the game did, so that made me excited to watch this great story be portrayed on tv and for me to watch that amazing ending unfold but unfortunately the show couldn’t deliver in the end. In my opinion this is still the best video game adaptation and I still like a lot that this show has to offer, and I am excited for the next season. Expand

Cancel culture and others have waved unnecessary objectives into our faces and down our throats. The whole "gay" thing has gotten completely out of control. The series, which I will say is very well done for the most part and it follows the game fairly well. The characters quietly work their way into your head and hearts as the world around them has fallen into decay and corruption by yet it captures your imagination and you catch yourself talking to, and asking your tv, a lot of questions or barking out directions as though it understands and is trying to comply.

The writers do not make everything blatantly obvious. You'll find yourself second guessing your own second guess and asking yourself 'what would I do' only to find out that what you were thinking of doing probably would have worked out for the worst. Then, there are other times when you can see what was coming and it happens and your left asking why they did it that way.

Seven episodes in and I give it a positive.

The second season though... they better make some changes if they don't want a dumpster fire on their hands

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall it's a good video game adaptation but there are a lot of parts that could've been cut or replace by some actual content.

Episode 3 is a straight up unnecessary... They could've let Joel and bill go through hordes of clickers and runners (a bloater fight would be cool) like in the game.

and some questionable decision like making Sam deaf... why?

Eventhough, there were some flaws. This is quite a masterpiece. Some parts fits pretty well in the series and I actually enjoy watching it.

Some parts pissed me off but 7/10 still ok

I have done my 2nd re watch at this moment. Bella is fine actress but simply not Ellie in anyway. Episode 3 was fine if it was not TLOU. I have played the game 3 time start to end. The show strays more and more as it goes on. To much of the story was condensed. Like is said EP#3 was fine but not TLOU it wasted the precious episodes we had. The DLC episode was infuriating waste of time. Also looking back with Sarah being race swapped should have given me clue of what is in store. I cannot imagine what they will do for season 2. Will they really have a trans gender kill Joel right off the bat? Expand

Its a shame the showrunner lacked the stones to keep the white cast white - is it just to fill a woke diversity quota with the studio?? I like the new cast but it just felt like a weird choice to make. I'm sure if they looked they could've found a decent white cast for those parts. Plot wise I got the vibes from the original games story!! It translates well to the 'real world'. Effects and action wise the budget is high - it's not an easy genre to be original with but so far this has done very well. Will keep watching this closely. *Update got to episode 6, its clear the showrunner has strayed away from the core of the games story and inserted diversity casting where it isn't needed (Joel and brother Spanish American, Tommy's wife black), added disabled character (Henry's brother) is now deaf). I liked pilot and the bill and frank episode but elsewhere it's hard to accept some of the changes. They don't seem to tell a better story just an excuse to serve the current Hollywood narrative. The more I watch this the more I realise how much of the original game was an accidental success.

*In addition to this in last episode the writers have decided to give Joel a health condition he never had, write Ellie to openly emasculate him in front of his brother and a strange old couple (that are also randomly native American!) and also protect Joel with a watch. It's such a mess.

*I've now finished season 1 and it's been a really mixed experience with only a few moments that struck true to the original material for me. More original scenes inserted here with Ellie's mum (and a great cameo from the original Joel and Ellie actors!). The original game felt like it wanted to be a TV show and in that way, without the interactivity, it feels like a project that couldn't really translate the experience of playing the game in this medium. It's a flawed but interesting curiosity to explore for fans of the game.

I never played the game, but I don't think that ruined anything. The good: Pedro Pascal. He's great and he was, from everything I've seen of the character, Joel. Ana Torv was also really great, though we didn't get enough of her. Everyone else? Meh. Bella Ramsey did not particularly remind me of the character once I saw clips of the game. I liked game Ellie much more. She was funnier and not **** Bella's rendition tried to be snarky like the Ellie in the game, but there was no love there. It fell flat for me and took me out of the story usually. I didn't think episode 8 warrants an Emmy for her, but I do think Pedro deserves one. I didn't mind the two, full gay episodes, but they did not move the needle on the story. 3 was a great, dystopian romance story and I liked both characters/actors. I was a bit mispy at the end, but again, Bill meets Ellie in the game, and I think we missed out on that interaction. As for Ellie's origin, I just thought it was dumb. I don't think Storm Reid has the acting chops to pull of any nuance, but then again, the writing didn't give her much. I realize this is DLC and everyone wanted to see a lesbian love story, but it was silly to leave safety to go play video games in a mall. What person, growing up in a zombie apocalypse, does something so stupid? And finally, the Fireflies. I don't get them. In both the game (from my kids) and the show, there's no real sense of who they were fighting. Fedra is the government I guess and that's bad? But nobody other than Fedra took quarantine seriously enough to stop the spread of the virus/fungus. Ironic that the demographic that still wears masks and doesn't believe in the lab leak would be against a government agency trying to stop a pandemic. The Fireflies were a big nothing burger and that hurts the story. Give us something to love about them and hate about Fedra. Expand

Don't make Season 2 because NOBODY want's Abby or that usless Stuff from the second Game again. Would be a waste of Time and i would give it 0/10 already after 5 Min's when Abby shows up. They did already enough damage to that Francise with the Game, don't try it again with that disgusting Plot that a 5 Year old wrote for a TV-Show. The second Game was trash, Abby was trash, all her Friends where trash and even Ellie was trash. DON'T DO THAT HBO or ND and let that Stuff where it belongs to: In the Garbage can to rot. For that Show or Season a 6/10 like i said. Without Ep3 and 6 i would be a 8/10 for me. But Episode 3 was so stupid i can't ignore that.
A second Season with Abby and Joels Death would be nothing more then Episode 3 but every Week.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hello,
… I rarely write recessions. When the game came out 10 years ago, I was absolutely blown away by it and was captivated for a long time! There was a lot of hype about the game. There were even performances by the voice actors reenacting scenes - just fantastic. I was all the happier about the announcement of the film adaptation or the series.
There's this effect when you hear the new CD of your favorite band and at first you don't really know what to make of it. Then you listen to 1-2 and suddenly you're excited... The series of "The Last of Us" is quite well done. Unfortunately, the effect described above did not work for me.
The other day I was looking at an old gameplay tape... and there it was again, that excitement in the world of Ellie and Joel, that old feeling - I don't have that with the TV series, unfortunately.

First two episodes were great. But third episode was so completely unnecessary to spend the entirety on Bill. He makes almost no difference to the overall TLOU story. I don't care if he's gay, straight, or an alien. It was so pointless. You can have Joel find a working Truck without Bill and nothing would have even changed.

If anything it was an extended trailer for the video game. A playthru of the video game is much better viewing by the way. This series could easily have been very successful by coming up with an alternative plot. I suspect that hiring the game designers as the writers was a mistake - the material needed a fresh approach. So I think in summary that is where this series came unstuck - it would be too much like hard work doing a good job and a lot easier to just produce a few low cost promos to boost video game sales, strung together posing as a tv series. It could've been a good ending, possibly great. Ellie might have been presented with the hard choice of sacrificing herself in order to maybe save the human race. I mean, she spent most of the first season risking her life to maybe save the human race, but in the end the people creating the show made the deliberate choice to give us the triumph of selfishness over heroism. They turned Ellie into a victim and made Joel appear like a monster who kills half the people trying to save the human race.

Oh, you might say, but Joel was trying to save Ellie. Sure, he probably saw it that way. But the problem is we the audience don't really know what's happening because we weren't shown what happened to Ellie while Joel was unconscious. Was she offered a choice? Was she treated like a lab rat with no rights? The most important plot point in the show and we'll never know the answer because the show runners either lacked the nerve to put it on screen or don't know the difference between good and evil. And based on what I saw on the screen the story ends with the human race doomed thanks in part to one man's evil.

There are other problems, too. Like the flashlight batteries still holding a charge 20 years after. Like the "survivalist" relying on gasoline and diesel fuel long after either would have degraded into garbage. Like the dam still supplying some people with electricity, because, you know, Jesus descended from the Heavens to ensure that the people with the technical background to keep a hydroelectric station running would still be on the job. Like the zombies. Not because it's fungus turning people into zombies. Because I read about fungus and bugs years ago so matching the fungus with people isn't that big of a leap. The problem here is that the zombies, on the rare occasions when we see them, look like something out of a Troma release. It doesn't matter if you start the film with scientists explaining that fungus zombies are a real possibility if the zombies you put on-screen look like some no-budget 1950s movie monster.

I give the series a 5 because it's watchable, and, frankly, the show runners deserve some cred for episode three, which is probably the best episode of all. Apologies to all the juvenile minds that just can't handle a little relationship diversity. Try growing up.

Yet they manage to fck it up one way or another every time. How can you possible pick this girl as Ellie? The most important character to carry the series and you choose the least liked young actress of her generation.. Her lines, looks, acting, everything is wrong. Joel is a pretty good pick and so is Tess. Imagine you are making a multi million dollar tv series of the most simped out game ever and instead of picking a safe and easy route (literally any young female actor other than this one) and then you go with Bella Ramsey as Ellie? Your entire series just went to sht. People coming to metacritic, a page where we try to give games, movies and tvshows actual ratings instead of the 9.5/10 imdb does, and yet some here give this 10/10, objectivity has gone out of the window, disgusting!

If Ellie was swapped out this might have been 6.5-7.0 so far but 1-2 episodes is far too soon to say anything other than Ellie makes the entire series go down 2-3 stars byherself.

The cast of Ellie is not correct, shes is not the proper Ellie, Ellie wasnt so grumpy or bad talked her essence is just different. I think that Pedro does a good Joel despite of the poor script. In episode 3 the problem is not the gay relationship but the completely detachment of it from the main story, that is just bad writing. you cannot just make such a huge a empty gap between both stories because that makes the audience just want to go to sleep. It would had been much better to make Joel and Ellie participate from the defense of the place at the end next to Bill at least. So at the end it was them at the gas station, gap, them on the Chevy, too boring. The main problem is that N. Druckmann cant write and he will cover his inability saying that people hate it because they dont like his woke agenda. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that the series isn’t comparable to the game. That said, the series is a relatively good watch, although I will emphasise that I was personally disappointed.

Back in 2013, Naughty Dog crafted a game that wasn’t just good; it was profound. The dialogue, character interactions, atmosphere, infected, etc., were all beautifully designed, especially during cutscenes. In essence, the game was a playable movie, and it captivated its audience.

One would argue that the game is so good (ten years on) even modern technology couldn’t top it. Each episode cost approximately ten to fifteen million dollars, yet the original game roughly cost fifty million. If you put those costs into context, the first series cost anywhere between 90 to one hundred and thirty-five million dollars - a fair bit of change, if you asked me.

The consensus is survival while trying to avoid being eaten, either by infected or human savages. The series hasn’t articulated any substance relative to the apocalypse, especially the original narrative. Currently, there are three episodes which rarely show interactions between the infected and humans, specific to Joel and Ellie. Equally, human savages have not played a part in the series as of yet, either.

While the narrative emphasises a well-designed theme, it seems it has not been executed well, in my opinion. The series has made unexpected and even unnecessary changes to the original storyline. For example, how Tess dies or how Bill develops a flourishing relationship with Frank - which is the polar opposite of the game.

I appreciate that the foundation of The Last of Us was built on a well-written script and that many people argue that zombies are not the main focus of The Last of Us (series). That storytelling is more important, eluding to relationships and character building of the beloved characters of The Last of Us universe. That said, The Last of Us is a game based in a post-apocalyptic world, where flesh-eating fungus-people will do what they can to eat humans, while savages will enslave and kill who they need to. Sadly, the series has put the very fundamentals of the game aside, reducing suspense.

I believe the characters should be the primary focus, while the infected should also be well integrated. Sadly, that is not the case, and while I loved the game, sadly, I do not feel the same about the series; I could quite happily never watch another episode if I base my experience on what I’ve watched so far.

Ultimately, my experience has been subpar. That may be because the game was brilliant; who knows? Nonetheless, I'm not too fond of the series (so far).

My verdict: 5/10.

It's not bad, but not good either. It has great moments, but almost everyone of them are from the game. And in the game they are much better. The moments that were added to be great falls flat. There is some good acting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Short version

The show is OK, not as good at storytelling as the game, and they change a lot of things for the worse, but it is still a decent story

Would I rewatch No, absolutely not

Do I recommend it for people that don't play videogames? Yes, absolutely

Do I recommend it for gamers that have finished the game? No, absolutely not, it is just not as good and will disappoint(and you can see that with the low user score it has, I never trust the pro reviews, they are paid for and have showed it more than once

The long TLDR version:

The acting is amazing, but that is what you get when you have Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey together

First, I love the opening with John Hannah, it was masterful(And I gotta say that seeing some stories from before the outbreak is awesome)

Now, the changes, I HATE when they change things that do not need changing... First, The location where it starts, it comes from south america(Ik, cordyceps is all over, but it is original from Asia) and they changed it to Indonesia, tbh at first I was mildly upset, but the way they handled that part was amazing, so ok

Second, Race swapping, and IK many will want to stop reading here, but please at least read until this paragraph ends; I dislike that media race swaps characters to "minorities"(I am mexican, like from Mexico City, and I and my paisanos, could not care less for "representation"... So why raceswap Sarah(blonde white girl) to a black girl, and Maria(Blonde white Slav looking woman) I mean, why then, did they not swap Henry to a white dude? Or Marlene to a redhaired?, please respect the sources!) and that is so common nowadays, and I hate it, THAT BEING SAID, the girl acted masterfully and I loved her as Sarah, and I am so looking forward to seeing more of her acting!

Third, changing parts of the story that make it make less sense! 3.1 Bill and Frank; there was no point on that, there is at least 1-2 hrs of gameplay with Bill, and it is awesome, he is such an interesting character, and his interactions with Joel made much of it, not having that and seeing his time with Frank, it just plain sucked, they could've elaborated more on him as a loner, his interactions with others, the reasons why Frank abandons him, but no, they had to destroy that character arc, especially, for example, with the way they meet, you see Henry's character then and there, and see that Ellie is starting to get through Joel, none of which happens in the show 3.2 All the story of Kansas(Henry's arc), that just made it worse, his character and story made so much more sense in the game, he is an older brother who will do whatever it takes to save his lil one, and it was so much more tragic to have the citizens led by psychos and killing innocent people, then Henry and Sam being caught on that and the only survivors of their group, the story as it is in the show makes much less sense and it is way less interesting 3.3 Making Sam deaf-mute; I mean, I know that you need to fill out inclusion quotas or you don't feel realized, but c'mon, there are multiple conversations that he and Ellie have in the game, how is that going to happen with a deaf mute? That was what made him so dear to us gamers in the first place! Here we only got that last written convo, taht is it, didn't make me feel the same connection as the way they banter in the game and they also broke his character when he tells Ellie about it, in the game Ellie's way of thinking stops Sam from telling her, the whole situation at the end still made me cry, but in general both Henry and Sam do not feel as fleshed out, and they miss the most important part, the most heartbreaking, that phrase "It is your fault, it is all your fault"... which is Henry's "on the brink" realization that it "is his fault" that he failed to protect Sam

The game was so heartbreaking because Joel was shut off from her, because he saw his daughter on her, so him opening up like he does in several parts makes their relationship towards the end less rewarding

Now, they add some of the snarky comments Ellie has, they add the jokebooks, but they do not follow Ellie's character arc, she is a strangely naive but rude and rebellious girl, but she pays attention to Joel, she does not do things behind his back or against his orders until after they are more comfy with each other, and it doesn't make sense in the show, she is supposed to be both amazed and terrified of everything, and that makes her follow Joel's orders, because she is super smart, and she says it several times, she knows that he knows what he is doing, and she looks up to him from the get go, so she doing all she does in the show at first makes 0 sense they just butchered all the characters

Now in general, most of the time they make Joel and Ellie look like the bad ones, when in the game it is the total opposite, and kind of don't make sense at all in the show

It marred the show from the get go, and the main characters never really seemed to bond at all.

I knew when they announced it way back Ramsey got the job it wouldn't work and I was right. I know it and so does Druckmann and Mazin, it was a complete show wrecker.

Both the "directors" knew the crap storm would hurt Bella and should be ashamed of directly miscasting the main character with someone that looks or acts NOTHING like Ellie.

Mazin and Druckmann should have played Bill and Frank themselves tbtfh, don't get me wrong I loved that episode, which, wrongly became the highlight of the show.

Hardly any infected, the sho9w lost it's way from the original content. Sadly and I know there's a lot of faux love for the show yada yada. It was a flop.

Anyone but Bella Ramsey might have saved it, maybe Sadie Sink? She had everything you need for a good casting as the MAIN character!!!???

I hope Neil Druckmann concentrates on the third game, the show can only get worse unless they cast someone else as an older Ellie (LIKE SADIE SINK) the actress that played Joels daughter would have made a better Ellie.

I give this show 4/10, even with a better casting it only deserves an 8/10
- 2 for not having enough infected
- 4 for casting Bella Ramsey as Ellie which ruined the whole show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first two episodes and some others as well were promising but when completing all 9 episodes it's a huge frustration.

The creators managed to maintain the atmosphere of the game, good effects, and decorations, the acting is also decent. But... that's all.

IMO this show has two main flaws where one leads to another: Action. I understand that it's hard to maintain the same level of action scenes as in the game but by the end of the show I forgot when was the last time I saw the infected. There was one single Bloater emerging underground when you kill several in the game. Honestly, I was expecting at least one fight with this monster. A couple of clickers were killed in the beginning plus a bunch of scenes with one-two infected attacking the character. That's it.
Also, not so many shootouts with regular people/raiders. This leads to the main flaw which turned this into a **** show.

When playing the game, you are building chemistry with Ellie through constant interactions. You carry her over the water, lifting, waiting when she opens the door or throws a ladder, etc. You protect her when she is under attack, you kill A LOT of people throughout the game. In the end, when killing Fireflies, it does not feel THAT bad. Still extremely questionable but due to the 20 hours of experience of helping/talking/protecting, you feel it can be deemed as a rightful choice.

However, the TV show failed to build the crucial part of the Last of Us - the chemistry between Joel and Ellie. They tried to show the bond between them but only close to the end, and for me, it did not work. Eventually, without this buildup all actions taken by Joel look like a horrific psycho massacre. He killed a bunch of innocent soldiers, possibly the very last neurosurgeon on the planet, the rebel leader, he lies to the girl and catches her in some psycho-abusive Father-Daughter relationship...
Again, it's in the game as well. But it does not feel like in the TV show due to the proper buildup of the ending.

And in TV-show, they had plenty of possibilities to give the ending a proper buildup. I mean they lost 1 hour, the whole episode just to cover the story of two guys falling in love. I'm OK with all that woke stuff but the Last of Us is about different things and different characters. The creators missed this part and the whole show became **** What a joke...

How Joel is portrayed
Music
Scenery

Story is not following exactly what was in the game but takes it as a suggestion. So we can see similarities and not just another let's play.
It is especially good when they were leaving QZ.
And that's all what was good.
Now huge issues:

Actress that is playing Ellie is try hard, and it is visible. She was probably cherrypicked cause she's genderfluid. Bill story - jesus fkin christ, it is again cherrypicked something from the story and nothing that actually was good.
