There's a painstaking amount of attention to its source material, and parts that develop upon or steer away are done masterfully.

The Last Of Us is all about relationships, heart, survival, and it's quiet and sombre moments hit as much if not harder than its grander moments.

The cast is perfect! The chemistry between Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is palpable, moving and endearing, with the two leads giving career-best performances. Storm Reid, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett, and the other numerous guest characters also deliver performances that hold more impact than the solo episodes they star in.

The cinematography is striking and stunning, selling the post apocalyptic landscape. The score, direction, production design and special effects are nothing short of brilliant.

Some of the episodes are so empty and feel so unimportant to the main storyline that you can just skip them entirely or the most part of them and won't really feel missing something in the end.

It either feels that the show is trying to follow the primary source very close, but at the same time it doesn't quite catch its soul. If it really did, it would be top notch as the original was.

The Last of Us stays close to the source material, while diving deeper into characters and relationships. The show focuses more on the danger of human corruption than hordes of infected that you fight off in the game. The cinematography, acting, music, directing, and screenplay are all excellent and seeing a video game adaptation have this much quality is refreshing since other video game adaptations have been rather bad until now. Where the show falters is the pacing from episode to episode and the overall writing for the season. It starts out strong but eventually things start to feel rushed and ultimately leaves you unsatisfied with how quickly everything gets wrapped up. Also, I don’t mind a zombie, or for the show's sake a “infected” tv show to not have infected as the main focus, but I feel that they went too far with this idea, and it made infected feel nonexistent, and the world feel empty and safe. I tried being as unbiased as possible to the show since I have played the game, but I can’t hide the fact that I was very disappointed the longer the show went on. I loved the beginning and I thought we were about to have one of the best shows ever, oh how I was wrong. I don’t mind changes to the story to better adapt to tv, that’s understandable, but this show easily could have been 11-13 episodes long and it would have been perfect. The farther along we got the more was cut from the story and the more infected fights were left out. In the game the final mission was emotional and tense where the final episode for the show felt dry and quick. I couldn’t believe how fast they rushed everything and even cut things out that was in the game at the end. This ruined the experience for me especially since they started out so well. Why wouldn’t you just stay as close as possible to the original story, it doesn’t make sense. Now my average is an 8, but since I have played the game and saw the potential of what this could have been I have to give it a 7. That rushed last episode really bothers me and it’s more disappointing than anything especially since the first episode hit me hard emotionally just as the beginning of the game did, so that made me excited to watch this great story be portrayed on tv and for me to watch that amazing ending unfold but unfortunately the show couldn’t deliver in the end. In my opinion this is still the best video game adaptation and I still like a lot that this show has to offer, and I am excited for the next season.

The show is best when it actually moves away from the game's writing. Love the attention to detail in almost every scene, the call backs and easter eggs. Funny, producers have figured out that a zombie show works best [and cheaper] with less zombies and better acting, kinda like Walkin Deader, but you know, with better acting and writing.

It struggles to deliver a compelling story outside of its cast, however, underutilising its post-apocalyptic landscape and losing a lot of its context to be slimmed down for the medium. Pacing is inconsistent and, while individual episodes are rock solid, as a collective whole the show never picks up speed, leaving its undeniably emotional finale a little anticlimactic.

Despite this, performances from Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay deliver crackling chemistry that goes a long way to smoothing out the cracks. Backed with superb creature design and a gorgeous soundtrack, The Last of Us: Season 1 is a TV event you do not want to miss.

I watched all episodes of the last of us tv series, and its not bad, it's definitely in no way superior to the game at all, not even close, however, it does expand on some areas and changes in the plot because of budget, yes I noticed. HBO should have given more money to VFX because infected in a TV series where infected affects the environment and the moral of the characters is an essential part of the apocalyptic world of The last of us.

If only there were a template of some sort like a game that could tell you about certain events that include infected, well I guess they just brushed over every single part that included infected because let me tell you in simple terms. The amount of scenes with action, infected and violent scenes shows me that the apocalypse is possibly better than real-life.

Other than that there were some unnecessary changes, because of certain "cultural" notions. Some of the characters are not taken directly from the source.

Pedro Pascal as Joel does a superb job, but I feel that the Dialogue given was lacking from the writers and scripters.

Bella Ramsey also does a great job as Ellie. Great Job kiddo.

    Rating time:
Story and Plot: 7/10, wait, isn't the last of us story a masterpiece? It is but there were so many unnecessary changes to characters, scenes, and pacing that affected the quality and the powerfulness of the TV show's plot.
Cast and Acting: 8/10, Very nice but lacking some dialogue, weird cast changes and choices, but the acting is nearly spot on.
VFX: 8/10, Done really well, but again lacking in areas where there needs to be during the plot.
Adaption Quality: 7/10, It's good but misses the mark by far.

Overall, 7/10, I know it's meant to be 7.5 but I don't give points for free, not only that I am being particularly hard on This TV show because the game exists as the perfect form and original source.
This show was close to nailing it but was pushed down by a lot of changes in plot, characters etc.

I don't know who thought by changing events of a perfect story would be good, it's like ordering a steak but instead of a steak you get a well-made chicken schnitzel, good but not what I wanted.

As for the future of the TV series, I hope Pedro Pascal is ready for some Golfing.

About the changes, I don't dislike them, it's just they did not affect the plot, it was just an excuse to get through a certain part quicker than normal. Maybe if you add some unexpected consequences it might keep viewers interested instead of just knowing what happens.

Another thing is not to change important and impactful parts of the story, you can change for Season 2 though because The Last of Us Part 2 was pretty bad in the story department. But if your going to continue the Journey with Joel and Ellie(Young) then I'm Very much interested, we haven't seen that before.

The worldI have certainly binged on my share of apocalyptic series during this new golden age of streaming television. We have been flooded with shows in the last decade, ranging from viruses to natural disasters to aliens. However, the premise of Last of Us is compelling and terrifying, the humble fungus gaining a foothold due to the climate change we are witnessing before our eyes. The world depicted is appropriately bleak and desolate, with the lurking infected just out of peripheral vision. The set pieces are excellent, eerie and evocative - rivalling the depressing vistas of The Road. As usual, we see that human evil continues to thrive in the last strongholds of humankind, a classic disappointment. We cannot resist turning to tyranny at the first possible chance, with the silent majority of the remnant minority allowing evil to rise. This is also the age of Pedro Pascal, the everyman thespian who slides effortlessly into every single role he plays. What a tour de force - he depicts a broken warrior with smoothness and credibility. A man seeking redemption in the face of a lifetime of sin. Bella Ramsey is brilliant, insightful, stinging and delightful. I expect huge things from this fantastic actor - she will continue to bowl us over for decades. She shows tremendous bravery and courage in every scene, a fitting role. There is no doubt every single episode of this masterpiece is well crafted and thought out, and delivers maximum emotional impact. There are no fake emotions here, each well-cast actor plays their role with genuineness and frankness. The extremely difficult choices of the final episode leave a ringing sound in my mind. We are truly defined by what happened in the past, and sometimes some are unhealed by time, and others are healed by other things. Expand
