Second episode with a directing debut from neil, who did a fantastic job with this episode, great seeing some infected action, also changing some things around to get something fresh for people who have already played the games.

I just hope they won't let Abby kill Joel as they did in the second game. Otherwise evrything looks good in the show. I like the fact that they changed the race of Joel's daughter and that she is black now ! Pedro Pascal is really good as Joel also.

The only "bad" thing that I could think of is that sometimes, I'm not sure why, in some shots, Bella Ramsey makes me think of Gollum from The Lord of The rings... it's maybe from the way she moves or something.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Abby kills Joel in the second game and Ellie let her go when she has the opportunity to kill her and I really hope they will change this part in the TV show because I didn't like it.

Pedro is good as Joel in the show, but something feels weird with Bella as Ellie (also because she looks like she is 20+ years old when she is supposed to be a teenager).

As always, Neil (the creator of the game and show) is focusing more in the wokeism than in the actual show (same for the games).… Expand

Okay, in all seriousness; the episode is fine, but while the last episode was a re-enactment of the events from the game to a tee, and only changed aspects from it when it made sense or expanded the story of the game in a way; this episode instead chooses to change a lot of elements from the game.

Perhaps if you're a tv viewer and don't have that much of a precedent with the game, you might not mind a lot of the inconsistencies between it, but I personally kept enjoying the aspects that were similar to the game here, ended up resenting most of the changes, and also enjoyed some of the very few ways the story got expanded.

For starters, I disliked the fact that the episode doesn't take place at night, in the game this segment of the story has a symbolism -in a way-, because of how the moment to moment events progress; it starts at night, then ends at sunrise when they reach the capitol bulding; there is a sense there of not only progression in the character's journey, but also an idea (whether intended or not) of the night that turns into day, there's is an end, but also a beginning perse.

Then there's the fact that they introduce an element over how the infection works opposite to how it did in the game, whilst there the infection spread through spores in specific contained areas and also through bites, here they chose to relegate it to bites and also get rid of the spores, not only that but they also introduced an strange characteristic of the cordyceps where it can communicate... Which as far fetched as the entire premise of the show is, I felt as if they were doing a good job in making the plot points of the fungi resonate with the audience, given how they precedeed the last episode (as well as this one) with a slow, intelligent explanation, and demonstration of a realistic, disasterous representation of what might happen if the cordyceps could infect humans in real life; these segments were great because they served as additions to the plot of the game, they didn't change the elements present in the experience, in doing so, because of the way they were presented, they also made sure to turn the idea of the fungi into a possible threat, something that added substance to the plot of the show and of the game.

But then the show also attempts -in a fairly blunt way-, to make Joel and Ellie bond together here, something that happened more gradually and more naturally in the game and in the last episode, here they attempt these "tension breaks" as moments that contribute to their relationship and are supposed to develop it even further, however, I found these moments to be -for the most part-, quite forced and unnatural, it didn't seem as if the actor's themselves, a lot of the times, felt as if those were how two people who just met, in a situation such as the one from the show, would act or interact with one another.

What's funny is that this is the one episode directed by Neil Druckmann -one of the creator's from the game-, in fact, one of the game director's for the game, so to have him be the one that contributed to the number of changes present in this episode ends up being quite ironic and a bit sad, because in a way it showcases what he had done differently, had he created the game today...

In the end, what I truly disliked, was the fact that I loved the points and plot elements that were similar to the game -if not identical-, the scenes inside the apartment buildings, the tension of those encounters, the final goodbye, and the extensions to the plot, such as the intro, were the highlights for me here; those long walks at the very beginning as well as the forced interactions and the drastic changes to how the cordyceps behaves are changes that I didn't like in the least though.… Expand

Super odcinek. Świetna scenografia świata jak i z miniliziwanie CGI tam gdzie jest to uzasadnione. Ellie zaczyna być Ellie. Nie mogę się doczekać kolejnego odcinka.

More so than with the games, I wonder how it smells, the world as it is depicted. Watching this second episode, I felt so there with the characters. In an interview, if I am remembering this right, Neal Druckmann has said that they intensively researched what changes to urban environments an apocalyptic event would bring. I recall the book The World Without Us by Alan Weisman was mentioned. The already very plausible environment I know from playing through The Last of Us titles feels closer in this live action format, a tremendous wonder to behold despite the harshness of its origin and story-current reality.

Pacing was a bit slower in this episode compared to the first one, which I had hoped for. Benefitted the atmosphere. For me, I would wish they'd provide even more room in this context. Acting, particularly by Anna Torv and Bella Ramsey (playing Tess and Ellie, respectively) is quite good, while Pedro Pascal's performance seems a bit wooden sometimes. Looking forward to see what he can do as the show progresses. It just makes me appreciate the incredible character work Naughty Dog was able to create, with the in-game Joel. Druckmann directing the episode was a good choice. Yeah, I love this show so far. Waiting impatiently for Sunday.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, the episode was decent up until the last 15 minutes or so until THAT DEATH scene. I felt like it wasn't as well done as it was in the game. Emotional? Sure. But the grossness of the kiss was really unnecessary. People can try to argue it, but at the end of the day it felt like a cheap inconvenience and it watered down how badass THAT CHARACTER was built up to be until that moment. I also felt like, although the scenes with the clickers were super intense and well done, the pacing felt rushed for a season. I felt as if this should have been maybe two episodes instead of one, but that's my personal opinion and I'm hoping the rest of the series doesn't feel as rushed knowing how much more has been added to the story. So all the above knocked this episode down a few points for me, it wasn't as good compared to the premier but wasn't necessarily a bad episode. Just be prepared to say "WTF" a lot.… Expand

Cold open was again excellent at creating dread and gave some good world building. Hand's off to the actress who played the scientist.
And this scene is nicely juxtaposed with elllie's immunity.

A lot of small character moments between three characters which slowly build their relationship ( especially between Ellie and Tess).

Production design in this episode is off the chart. They made an entire flooded sound stage for a 2 minute scene. The cgi is nicely blended with the practical sets which make it really hard to tell it apart.

Introduction of clickers were absolutely insane and it was definitely the standout moment in this episode.
It really made me feel like I was playing the game for the first time. The show really did justice to their ferocity. I was on edge of my seat, holding breath.

For me personally, tess's death was much more impactful than the game and it is mainly due to Anna torv's performance and the musical score.

There is one scene towards the end were some people may get confused, so highly recommend listening to official tlou hbo podcast. The creators will explain their intentions with that scene and i personally really liked that addition.

This was such a great follow-up to the 1st episode and i would say it maybe a better paced than the premiere.… Expand

I think I might actually enjoy this episode even more than the first one. In the game I loved the interactions between Joel, Tess, and Ellie and this was pretty much what we got in this episode. Lots of fun and great ending. More like this please.
