In the blink of an eye, this slowburn drama switches into the psychological thriller we were promised from the outset, putting wheels in motion for the three episodes to come. The Guest is a series I am more than happy to welcome into my living room.

The writing will reel you in, and the two lead actresses are perfectly cast. Creevy’s natural performance keeps things grounded and prevents the story from becoming too silly.

Myles and Creevy sparkle as two women in an unhealthily intense relationship, their performances making you feel the claustrophobia.

All four ridiculous, well-played, well-paced episodes slip down a treat. There’s nothing hugely earth-shattering or innovative here – apart from the sheer volume of plot contained therein – but you will have fun. That much I promise you.

y the time it wraps up, viewers including myself are likely to find themselves feeling slightly underwhelmed, given the fantastic build-up. This is not to say that The Guest isn't worth a watch. It is, even if only for Creevy and Myles's terrific performances. It just feels like it bit off a few more mysteries than it could perhaps chew.

As The Guest unfolds, piling psychosexual twists on top of one another like some deranged game of Jenga, the plotting gets ever-sillier, the actual point of it all more and more unclear.
