While the scripted parts of the show are scattershot at best, the prefect chemistry between hosts Clarkson, Hammond and May as well as Amazon’s lavish spending makes The Grand Tour one entertaining ride.

Typical Clarkson-style Top Gear of the past 5 years, with added layers of absurdity. The hosts and the unscripted banter remain as endearing as endearing as always, and there's certainly plenty of creative ideas that only this group would produce.

However, personally I found their attempts at scripted comedy got tiring and old quickly, without the BBC's producers to reign them in and keep them focused. Hopefully future seasons improve, but the first season fell short, and was just plain painful to watch at times.

Even with the shortcomings, worth watching for Top Gear fans.

Loved the return of the trio. You would not be a genius to figure out that this is not a politically correct show. Parental Guidance is absolutely a must. These are entertainers, adult entertainers at that, if you agree with Clarkson that the Jaguar E-type qualifies as 'Strong pornography'. They are not there to tell you which car you should buy, they are here to tell you to fall in love with driving and have a laugh while doing it. The new show maintains all the machismo of Clarkson, feminism of May and brashness of Hammond. Now devoid of the BBC's shackles, they pull no punches and do not hide the fact that they have beaten the noise and criticism of Clarkson's actions last year. The massively improved financial prowess is more clear than ever. Far too many critics are huffed up on political correctness now-a-days, and demand that Clarkson try to appease one and all. That has never been possible and never will be. Despite what many will call sexism, bullying, racism, etc - I don't think it has ever been clearer than now that these 3 guys have more fans than detractors, in every nation, among every race, every gender and every culture. Watch it if you love camaraderie, goof-ups, comedy, parody, crudeness but stay away if you refuse to believe that anyone could like a man like Clarkson. The real Top Gear is back, and I for one am very very happy. Expand

The Grand Tour is both excellent and confusing. Several episodes explode off the screen, such as the series premiere that pits 3 hybrid supercars together that BBC's Top Gear failed to land - a huge selling point and an exclamation point in this series' first episode. However, as the series presses on, several problems begin to surface. Instead of The Stig, Grand Tour has The American - a NASCAR racer who has the occasional funny one liner as he powers through the new racing course but is also very unlikable when the jokes don't land. The celebrity guest spots also are a load of crap with Celebrity Brain Crash - a confusing and meaningless use of time where a celebrity dies before coming onto the set. No celebrities ever get onto the show and there is no lap times for them to clock. Though it would have been a rip off of Top Gear (some of this show definitely is anyways) it would have at least been more entertaining. However, despite a few mediocre skits and bad ideas being thrown into the mix, The Grand Tour still manages to be funny and captivating. The three amigos - Clarkson, May and Hammond, never fail to amuse. If Amazon wants to perfect its new show, the changes are obvious and rather simple. Cut the crap and replace it with something that is more attractive. Having laps were fun in Top Gear. Consider doing something similar in this show as well. If you must have your own twist, go for it, but anything would be better than The American and Celebrity Brain Crash. Expand

I have been a fan of top gear for at lest 5 or 6 years and was cautiously optimistic that the Grand Tour would be as good as I knew it could be, and alas I was not disappointed. The production values are even higher than the ones we got used to on top gear, it is less constrain by the same format that top gear always followed and therefore I have a feeling (even though I only saw the first episode) that each episode will be much more different from the next than was the case with top gear and I find it hilarious. Could not recommend it more. Expand

The only criticism I have based on first episode is lack of more segments in the show - it was basically only car challenge and car test on the track. The news and guest star were only there to troll BBC, but it doesn't change a fact the show needs more segments to increase diversity.

This infantile show is a far cry from Top Gear. The "American" driver should talk less and drive more. Other than the car reviews, everything else can be fast forwarded through.

Honestly, nothing bad to say. I'm glad they kept with the cinematography style from Top Gear. And we can also see they made great use of their budget. And it even looks even better than Top Gear in my opinion.

It feels too scripted, and it's frankly speaking, quite unfunny. A few giggles here and there, are ruined by the obviousness of the scripted comedy. The American test driver is a poor choice, as he is about as funny as a sad funeral. I heard talk about a really huge budget, but I wonder, where is that money spent?

Fun, Funny, and Ambitious! While it is similar to the old Top Gear, they do some new things. And with a large budget, the cinematography is absolutely beautiful. If you like cars and shenanigans, this is the show for you! It is light years beyond the new Top Gear with Chris Harris. That show was absolute rubbish.

Ignore the SJW critics that are triggered over Clarkson's exit from BBC.

Ignore the SJW critics that are triggered over Clarkson's exit from BBC. You can't trust them to be unbiased because they are clickbait. Also, a lot of more credible critic reviews have not been added to Metacritic at this time for one reason or another. For this show, in the meantime, trust the user reviews.

The show will be available on Amazon around the world in December. Some people have reported that a free trial from Amazon UK still allows you to watch the show, regardless of IP. Definitely worth subscribing to Amazon Prime and not just for the free shipping. This isn't a paid endorsement, just my personal opinion.

Have fun and enjoy the show!

Amazon, Richard, Jeremy and James have all worked hard on this and the proof is all in episode 1.

I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest of the season.

Thank goodness this is on Amazon as it enables the ability to skip past the childish and inane studio segments. One would have assumed that the three would have lost the forced "canned" audience participation which can be assumed is a safety feature from executive production. Even Top Gear USA phased this out long ago and presented a show just about cars and the hosts. It is understandable to add this scope of comfort but television has evolved form the original top gear these three reinvented back in 2002. The cars however are beautifully captured and a tribute to those who only dream of ownership, the perfect shots and staging of vehicles is maintained at the highest level seen on television today. Unfortunately the lack of ability to evolve from the 14 year old Top Gear Synopsis of forced studio entertainment is the shows biggest downfall. There is an overwhelming census of opinion as to the greatness and perfection of the polar expedition episode but unfortunately this magic has not been recaptured. This is the show for beautifully shot landscapes, roads and cars but it is no polar special. Expand

Heck, when they replaced it with two “famous” (but usually unknown to me) drivers it was not much better, but ocassionally it works and it’s not in every episode anyway. The new driver Abbie Eaton is more anonymous than her American red neck predecessor and it’s fine.

The humor overall however has been getting better as of late and I loved several of the episodes this third season, especially those that were similar to Top Gear’s specials. And if you think about it, those were one or two per season in Top Gear, in season 3 of The Grand Tour all episodes (bar 1 I believe) were much like those specials. Next season apparently will be nothing but specials. And that’s what I always wanted TGT to be.

Who cares about car news, boring celebs promoting entertainment we don’t care about or frankly even car tests? I can still watch Top Gear specials till this very day as if they’ve never even aged. And the wonderful thing is the last few TGT specials have been of the same quality if not better. That alone is worth an Amazon Prime subscription to me.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s chemistry and on-camera talent can’t be denied. They are very good at what they do, and the show itself would be innocent fun for car buffs and reality fans alike. But the question The Grand Tour invites in, with its brash mockery of past controversy, is how comfortable you are watching arrogant, wealthy, white men traverse the globe in insanely expensive toys and behaving like 12-year-old boys.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s love for machinery--and what human machinery indicates, which is adventure and expansiveness--is still present, pure, and appealing, even with the shift in networks and formats. ... Its ethos is also wrapped up in Clarkson’s glee at having escaped punishment, and in his mockery of the Prius and the bicycle for not being devoted to consuming fossil fuels as quickly and loudly as possible. The show is an embodiment of the self-righteousness of wrongheadedness.
