Unfortunately the comedic peaks the show meets are not matched by the consistency of the awful overly saccharine drama, the lazy philosophy dialogue, the poorly structured plot and the godawful pacing. It's hard to gauge the acting when the actors are stuck with such lousy dialogue. Occasionally the sets and practical effects are good (or at least fun to look at), they're best used to reinforce some of the better quality humour, but you can't get used to the high moments of the show when it rides so consistently low; watching two characters re enact the same drama episode to episode in the same house, the same office, the same yoghurt shop, whatever, gets quite tiresome. At least it's easy enough to binge and forget so if that's all you want in your life then have at it. Expand

The finale smoothed over some of the bumps of the past season to solidify the fact that The Good Place was the smartest and most wholesome comedy on television with an overwhelmingly strong and delightful ensemble, and an enduring message about life, death, and being human. The show serves as comfort food in dark times, and reminds us of the beauty of our existence, the beauty of the mystery of our existence, and the beauty of the friendships we build and maintain. This show leaves you feeling warm, content, and optimistic about your own life - and allows to embrace the inevitable messiness. I think it’s possibly one of the most important shows to have ever graced the screen, and one that I will keep in my heart and in my mind forever. Expand

The actingIt's The Good Place, Not The Great Place. Sorry, that was terrible. Its a show that is relatively high concept, a spin on the cliche afterlife comedy/drama, and is stuffed with fun characters so you aren't allowed to get too bored. The acting is wonderful! The plots are okay, often putting themselves in corners they have to 'joke' their way out of, but it's a 20 minute sitcom, not a prestige drama, so it's fine. Overall I think people give this show much more credit than it deserves, and I'm glad something like this exists, because maybe we can see a show that does what it was trying to do better. I hated the music. Maybe because it's 4 second theme truly mirrored the show - not enough to elicit emotion, but intriguing enough to keep my attention. Expand

The Character of Tahani becomes very annoying in later seasons. Kristen Bell's acting is overrated. Ted Danson is the reason for the 2 stars.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Good Place is a quirky comedy that I would have completely glossed over if it weren't for hearing about it time and time again on Reddit, and I am happy that I decided to check it out.

As a whole, The Good Place is a fantastic show, with one of the best finales I've ever seen on a TV show. The finale was so good that it bumped up my total grade a point. I admit that I got pretty emotional watching it, much more than I expected too. This is due to the fantastic character development the writers put into the show, and the fantastic acting from everyone involved. I feel that each character came into their own, and I enjoyed their journey together.

Admittedly, I watched more than one episode with half of my attention due to feeling bored. I didn't love the show through and through and I can't even understand why.

All in all, The Good Place was very enjoyable, and I will probably re-visit it some day.

Though I don't think this is the best season, this is a good finish.

Like the previous seasons, you get a lot of interesting ideas thrown at you within a short run time. Efforts are made to include appearances from a lot of the best recurring characters on the show for one last time. I was never the biggest fan of Shawn (Marc Evan Johnson), but I really felt they added layers to the once two-dimensional character.

Also, great finale. The show has always surprisingly worked well using the underpinnings of philosophy, and the last episode really takes this theme to a new level. The cast and characters remain excellent and their conclusions are so emotionally well done.

However like I said, this isn't the strongest season. (The odd-numbered ones seem to be the stronger.) After several seasons of the characters dealing with afterlife bureaucracy, similar developments feel a little old hat. We are introduced to a new group of characters who undergo the same circumstances the original humans did when they first landed in the Good Place. However, there characters are more simplistic and lack the more interesting personalities of their predecessors. Also, Tahani (Jameela Jamil) got the short end of the stick storywise a little. The others have strong romantic or platonic relationships and she doesn't really get that with anyone. The jokes just aren't on the same level as earlier seasons, probably since the writers had so much plot to cram in.

I know a lot of people online have complained that this season isn't that funny, but I feel that this still thrives on storytelling if not laughs. Plus, the show is still more original than most comedies. I enjoyed myself a lot.

they ended it in 4 seasons , which makes me eternally sad but it ended in great terms and the quality absolutely didn't drop at all.

Season 1 is perfect — the pacing, the writing, the acting — with consistently good episodes, and a lot of twists and cliffhangers that always leave you wanting more.
Season 2 keeps up the same standard for the most part (Episode 2 "Dance Dance Resolution" is the best episode of the whole show in my opinion). Though it can feel a bit slow mid-season compared to S1, it's still a really funny and well-written show. I specially enjoyed Michael's arc in S2.
Season 3 for me took a dip in quality, partially due to the change of setting and just the different tone in general. I also felt like there were less memorable moments and less funny moments in this season.
But overall, The Good Place is a great show that I would recommend to anyone.

It's the type of series that make you pass more time thinking about the massage delivered in, that you pass actually watching it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to start by saying that this show isn't funny, it shouldn't be labeled a comedy. I mean, I think I laughed out loud maximum 5 times in the 50 chapters, it's comedy attempts are completely lame. Being that said, I believe this is the most original and contemporary take on the afterlife ever.
I like the way they hide the fact that the show is actually about moral philosophy, and they do it exquisitely, as you will never feel overwhelmed by philosophical theory, but rather they place the questions in a very subtle manner. I love the character development, as it never goes off the rails to be unbearably cheesy neither complicated to make them exhausting.
This show makes you think, and that is something current shows will never do. I didn't noticed that I did got attached to the characters, until I saw the finale, when I didn't want this show to end, and I gotta say it did in a magnificent way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this show and pretty much all of the seasons until the finale of the show. The twists and turns in the 1st season with Ted being bad was superb, Loved the 2nd season on his torture continually failing and him constantly resetting. Now for what I disliked. The finale! it was just so depressing for a comedy show about death and life.

So Chidi and Eleanor loved each other so much that their love was strong enough for them to constantly gravitate to each other in all the seasons. Yet Chidi leaves her to walk through the Door to basically become non existent. It felt they wanted to ignore the love part and move onto some bizarre I hate the afterlife and truly want to die. Even if they wanted this ending Chidi and Eleanor should of walked through together. At the end it felt Eleanor was alone and just walked through because she had no friends left.

Jason's character should of ended up with Janet, instead he plays the perfect game of NFL and motorcarts with monkeys so decides that's it. I would of personally wrote that he and Janet had a baby or ended up both going to earth to experience life. As it felt his walk through the gate , he didnt really know what he was doing as he calls for Chidi to wait up as he walks through. His life was hard before he died and it felt he never truly got to live Michael returning to earth to experience life and death was at least one ending I could see happening to the character as he had grown from a demon to an angel and to an angel to a human. So in the end out of the original four Tahani is the only one which in a way remains, I dont have a problem with this just I wish the others basically had a better send off than a suicide gate. Loved the show just wish the ending contained more of a happy ending, way too depressing for me and in many ways made me wish I didnt watch the finale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The good Place is a series with a lot of things into it: philosophy, romance, comedy. The story it's interesting overall but it get boring sometimes, jokes are sometimes on a 5th grade level and just not funny at all, repetitive and just boring. But the ideia overal is very good, the message is being passed and at the end we know that there's no villains in this story, just people there to learn. The ideia of forever it's boring to everyone who actually thinks about it and we all know that, the series it's about life and getting through, knowing that's going to end and that's fine about it, when we're ready. Overall, bad jokes for the most part and an evenly distributed story events that makes it boring at some points, but the story it's still good and the message it's still there and it is an important one, wich makes it a good and remarkable show. Their interpretation of what the afterlife looks and feels like with magically appearing objects and sunshine was amazing in execution and super creative. Although the writing is creative and hilarious, some writing did leave me unsatisfied and hindered my ability to suspend my disbelief. For example, while some wouldn't notice the accuracy of their philosophical explanations, I unfortunately felt uneasy with some of their explanations that made the plot feel wobbly. Their explanation of predetermination was completely false, and in the end I could not accept the ending as it depended on the explanation of predeterminism- not to mention the frustration brought upon by knowing one of the main characters is a PHILOSOPHER! Unfortunately there are also a lot of plot-holes like Tahani going to the bad place because she was only competing with her sister ,her intention, but the reason Chidi goes to the bad place is the damage caused that he had no control over and did not intend for. Later they tried to fix this by saying the point system was flawed because they were measuring it by the damage caused, but then why would Tahani be there in the first place? Speaking of the new point system, it feels quite obvious to make it about intent, as that shows how truly selfless you are, but instead they throw that out the window and provide a system that allows you to get better- even though your only true intent will now be getting to the good place now that you know it exists. I would enjoy this show if I could turn my brain off and laugh, but unfortunately good comedy doesn't make works of art. Expand
