Strong first episode that quickly turns into a painfully average action drama.

I was looking forward to “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” but could not make it past the fourth episode. Poor character development, hated the new Cap, bad guys were not bad guys, and way to racially politically charged. I understand that Hollywood and big corporations are all about racial PR these days, but please spare me the lecture. Disney, I know you can produce better shows (seeI was looking forward to “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” but could not make it past the fourth episode. The show is "fine" by all accounts. But I can't help but feel a little disappointed by its lack of ambition.

It's telling when the villains are really the best part of the show. The plot and set-pieces are so generic, it's hard to recall specific moments of the show. The buddy comedy dynamic never really works as well as it should and it all feels bery "by the numbers". WandaVision by

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, the first episode was quite dull. Sure, the initial sequence was intense, but then it all went downhill. Do we need to see an Avenger going to the bank to ask for a loan? Although we already know these characters, there wasn't any hook to keep thinking about the show, unlike 'Wandavision' some weeks ago. I never stop watching a series, but I don't know if this one will deliver. Expand

Too much zeitgeist political content and not enough character development. A lot of wasted potential on interaction between protagonists

If I was 16 years old again I, with my childish brain, would probably have enjoyed this. But this formula that they are going for is so super cliche, it's been done a gazilion times and so predictable. Sprinkled on top with politically correct race issues here and there is a bit down the same alley: It's average with average on. Another way to put it would be dumbed down politicallyIf I was 16 years old again I, with my childish brain, would probably have enjoyed this. Further, and this may not be a problem for fans of the marvel universe, you have to have seen previous iterations of marvel universe because it spends time referencing captain america and such things that you dont really know what the hell they talking about unless you seen those shows (and I hadn't, so it felt kinda pointless and empty, as a viewer I felt marginalized by that, as if the show wasnt meant to be for me).

If fractional score was possible I would rate it it a 6.7, but since that is not possible I'll have to go with 6. Im not going to give this one a 7 im afraid.

Not a great start. Falcon is not likeable, thats not the actors fault, but the writing. They are handling Winter Soldier much better. The fight scenes aren't needed and at this point are really just filler. This really needs to step it up and give me a reason to care in these next 2 episodes

Second show down the road and I realize... Marvel works in short compacted stories. In these series, they try to go deeper into the topics and characters, but the characters are just too boring to dig deeper in the first place. Heroes and Marvel one more specifically are fun because its short, fast-paced, top-notch action and they don't overstay their welcome.

You see the characters with their lives and issues and realize, "So that's why I know barely anything about this guy or this guy". The movies don't cover almost anything out of their lives and personalities outside of what is not needed for the current plot. With these shows, the filler is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow and sooooo... nothing.

There is a high production quality, they have this going for them but not much of an interesting show. I would love to see a 2-hour version of whatever they are going for but, not this time around. Probably a recap at the end will suffice, it's not worth watching all this empty filler around.

I'm pre-judging this show based on what was shown in WandaVision, and am aware that are very different beasts done by different people, and yet, after just one episode, the feeling is very much the same.

It's not worth the sub price just for the possibility of something happening 6 episodes down the road.

Boring episode, It may improve as the season rolls out but such a tedious start is not a good sign. Hope they tone down the cheap jokes and forced humor. It reminded me of Joss Whedon's Justice League atrocity. One thing is for sure, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie are, both, good actors ridiculously sexy. They just need a better script and and improved pase, story wise.

It seems that Marvel are paying the critics :o

Boring start, Hopefully it improves as the season goes on. Nothing really happens.... Falcon is the worst character to follow.

I feel like I'm very much in two minds with regards to this show. First and foremost, it is well-executed and with a bizarrely relevant storyline considering the covid-related events of the last year (I think it even invoked phrases like the 'The New Normal' in this show). However, I think it could be accused of being the same old Marvel despite this.

First and foremost, it is well-executed and with a bizarrely relevant storyline considering the covid-related events of the last year (I think it even invoked phrases like the 'The New Normal' in this show). However, I think it could be accused of being the same old Marvel despite this.

It's a tricky predicament as I feel the subject matter it addressed (A black Captain America) is kinda surprising given anything about race can be such a polarising subject (I mean without even looking I can tell that half the negative reviews are gonna be from whiny manbabies who think that anything even vaguely discussing racism is pandering to libs - idc if this is a strawman btw sue me) and I normally associate Disney with playing it as safe as possible. However, I still felt that occasionally it slipped into paying lip-service rather than really discussing issues. It felt like it was torn between being your standard superhero show whilst also attempting to explore America's relationship with race and I felt it would occasionally struggle with these two conflicting aims.

Outside of this, I am huge fan of the action in this. I was quite critical of how the action in WandaVision (the previous MCU show I watched) felt lacklustre especially in the final episode. The fights in this reminded me of a slightly more PG version of the Netflix Marvel shows (Daredevil etc.). This is a really good thing as I personally feel that the Netflix shows had some of the best action in any Marvel-related properties.

I think that, ultimately, it gets a six as it is very par for the course for Marvel on an overall level. I am a big fan of the fact that they didn't sidestep the discussion of a black Captain America but I'm not sure if this is enough of a difference to really warrant it being given a higher score - other shows like Luke Cage or Black Lightning have also dicussed black superhero issues so this show is not like a fresh, fresh perspective. Probably still worth watching if you're an MCU fan but otherwise not a must-see.

    I would give this a 63%
I like how they don't make the charter's not all powerful and no challenge like most super hero movies but the thing is they DRAGGGGGGGGGED out the fighting clips so long they could have cut out like 20 min and the fighting clips were not entreating.

Changed my mind about the show. It's average, although the climax is disappointing. John Walker is the strongest aspect of the show.

It's just bland for pretty much every episode but the concept of John Walker is really good. Shame they reverse it by the finale.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks as though it will play out as a fine, straightforward action series. But no Marvel output can exist in a vacuum and so far, with its by-numbers action sequences and troubled hero narratives, it’s a little unimaginative.

Marvel’s second Disney Plus series is off to a very promising start, finding a healthy balance between the blockbuster thrills fans love and the personal drama that gives them meaning. It’s still anybody’s guess as to where this story will go next, but you shouldn’t have any hesitation about going along for the ride.

Once it gets its heroes together it starts to feel more confident, and interesting issues are touched upon, but so far it’s just a little routine.
