Feb 19, 2018A very strong story and good effects holds mediocre acting together. This sci-fi show combines political intrigue with alien horror quite nicely. I look forward to the next season.

Jan 11, 2016I was on the fence the first couple episodes, but they are doing so much world building that the major early criticism was they tried to do too much too fast. By episode three though it starts to pay off and really starts to come together in episode 4.
A lot of characters and factions to develop, but there is huge potential here and the high production values give me great hope. -

May 27, 2018There are many character actions that seem unlikely and poorly written dialogue lines, but overall the show is compelling enough to keep me watching.

Jul 5, 2018Season 1 of The Expanse takes a measured approach to establishing its lore and world-verse. This will pay dividends later, as major sequences will require almost no forced exposition, but it can make some the events seem extremely random. Characters are good, though, and the sense of sci-fi mystery is well done. Season 1 sets the table; the main course will happen later.

Dec 14, 2015It's too early to tell. I hope it gets more focused and tighter storyline wise. I agree with the critics saying it is crammed with too much and is balancing a lot in a breakneck pace. I need a little more development, but I am intrigued. I am hopeful. It is something excitedly a bit different. I hope that after a few more weeks I will be wanting to raise my score.

Mar 20, 2017Characters don't pull me in. Tired of crime stories, we have more than enough of them already. Hard to follow. Hard to hear dialog. Story seems weak. Nothing really had jelled for me in the 1st 4 episodes so I say it's crap.
I'm a huge SCIFI fan but not this. Nothing here to make me watch it. -

Feb 5, 2017Just read the books if you are into sci-fi.
The experience will be miles ahead in terms of pretty much everything. TV stuff just makes way too many compromises for it all to be enjoyable. -
May 31, 2016What a waste of money. I dont know whats worse - the directing or the writing. Someone needs to figure out how to tell a story. If I had not read these books I would have been totally lost.
And the casting is all wrong for the James Holden character. Great effects but tell the story please. If I were Cory I would be very disapointed. -

Jan 22, 2016i didnt like it ... it throwns to you too much i think ( i didnt read the books) so i was trying to understand on the first 3 chapters and when all things come togheter is nothing from another world really, actually is quite boring maybe it needs more action and less mixed plots and tons of dialogue

The biggest challenge will be how well all these threads can hold together, but so far, the show’s proven its ability to focus when essential. And all those little stories, when blended together, create a hell of a narrative.
-
The show overexplains here and there--especially in the first episode--but after some early jitters, it settles in and simply lets its world be.

The Expanse is indeed expansive with the universe it sets up within the pilot and through the characters presented. Unfortunately though there’s so much going on in the pilot that it quickly becomes a convoluted romp through space that’s more about showcasing the wasteland that humans have become than developing characters viewers will remember, let alone invest in watching.
