The wartime setting gives The Crimson Field” more gravitas than a “Downton-style soap but the premiere episode never gets too bleak.

Another terrific show in the tradition of "Upstairs Downstairs," "Downton Abbey", "House of Cards", "Brideshead Revisited" and all the other great BBC offerings throughout the years.
