The cast — including Dan Ahdoot as the chief engineer, Gary Anthony Williams as the chief mechanic, Freddie Stroma as their dim driver and officer manager Sarah Stiles occupying the Remini role — is very good, with enough depth and breadth that jokes can come from character. They’re fun to watch, but I never felt especially invested in their plotlines. But I laughed some.

James fans will love this overstuffed commercial for NASCAR and its many sponsors.
-
The show assumes viewers will firmly identify with Kevin, whose fight against obviously needed improvements makes him a difficult character to root for despite James’ innate charisma and comedic timing. If there is one bright spot in “The Crew,” it’s Sarah Stiles, who plays the team’s office manager Beth and the clear will-they-won’t-they love interest for Kevin. ... It feels like a relic from an era we are lucky to have left behind.
-
While we saw some flashes of that potential in the first episode, we’re not sure how hard the show will strive to take advantage of those flashes.

It is early days for The Crew, and a lot of now-classic comedies took at least a season to bed in, but this seems to lack the secret ingredient that might make you root for Kevin and the team. It is all a bit 10th place.
