Not everything is letter-perfect about The Big C. But Linney sure is--and that's more than enough.
-
Much of The Big C's unoriginal dramatization of cancer concerns is mitigated by the fresh, dynamic performances of Linney and Oliver Platt as husband Adam. [1 Jul 2011, p.67]
-
The Big C feels much more alive, even though it's a show about a woman, Cathy (Laura Linney), who's dying of stage 4 cancer.
-
Linney is a fine actress, but her material here doesn't match her talents.
-
The writers have calmed down a bit this season, but they still can't seem to resist the urge for over-the-top plot strings.
-
Having a character and her family deal with a potentially fatal illness is such a rich arena for both drama and black comedy, but so far, The Big C hasn't been able to mine that topic with consistent freshness and depth.
