The unexpected guest spots, like Duchovny as the depressed ice cream truck driver, are also hilarious. But what Dildarian has done a good job of is building the community around Tom, where characters voiced by people like John Malkovich fit in well.

The absurdity is less extreme, and the depth to which situations can descend is limited. But there’s also a sweetness that Life & Times of Tim couldn’t always achieve. Beyond Dildarian, whose plaintive monotone is surprisingly varied, the vocal cast here is a delight, starting with Malkovich. ... Ten Year Old Tom is well worth checking out.

"Ten Year Old Tom" is something of a comedic triumph, however. Tom is a mix of the biblical Job and a bemused character out of a Beckett play, and the show is original enough that one goes looking for comparisons. ... "Ten Year Old Tom" has cult hit written all over it.
