While it could have been a bit more informative, it does seem that Superpowered: The DC Story touches upon some aspects of the company’s history that aren’t their proudest moments, which is always welcome in projects like this.

Wading through 85 years of comics history is a daunting task, and “Superpowered: The DC Story,” a Max docuseries tries doing it in just three parts. Yet this voyage into comics history, in print and on the screen, comes at a crossroads for DC, one that suggests all paths usually lead back to Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Superpowered: The DC Story is a solid primer for newcomers; for long-time DC loyalists and readers, this documentary is going to reveal very little that you don’t already know.

Max presents a strung-together list of fun moments that may justify how much time fans have spent with the characters to this point, and convince them not to lose interest. To care enough to sit through all three hours, though, one would have to be an uncommonly committed die-hard in the first place.

It isn't a boring show, though the amount of blather generated in an effort to deify DC and its now-parent company is excessive, embarrassing, and sometimes bewilderingly both.
