It contains enough legalese to make things seem plausible, not impenetrable. It breathes. It allows relationships to build, and be revealed, as the narrative progresses.

The outline of Striking Out is familiar enough that it might sound like an American show, probably airing Thursday nights on ABC. But there is nothing cliched about either the execution or the performances.

It’s all very predictable, and predictably well acted. It’s also fairly appealing, if you like the idea of a legal soap opera done in the style of a restrained British rom-com.

There's nothing revolutionary in play, but the actors here are worth the investment, particularly Huberman, who is both magnetic and relatable, meshing nicely with Morrissey's usual high-bar work and the likability of Byrne.
