his series wins when it feels as though we, the audience watching via Netflix, are getting secret insider tips about the coolest most authentic places to check out, like a local whispered it to us. it doesn’t feel exploitative at all or that it’s trying to be a cool Instagram post. Street Food: Latin America isn’t quite changing the game when it comes to food or travel or culture shows, but it’s a pretty solid contribution that will leave you feeling hungry and educated at the same time.

The instruction is minimal. The thrills are vicarious. The pleasures are available from the comfort of one’s couch. Basically, it’s food porn. But it’s also travel porn. ... “Street Food: Latin America” is not strictly a food show, though: There are sometimes lengthy digressions into the lives of the chefs (which are often enough quite touching) and a lot of background on the culture of each place on the travel itinerary—which in addition to Buenos Aires, Salvador, Bogotá and La Paz includes Oaxaca, Mexico, and Lima, Peru.
