Despite and because of its many points of disconnection from the reality of the industry it purports to illuminate, I liked it and quite enjoyed biting my thumb at its cast (like a Capulet servant) while watching the pilot.
-
All the cliches of unscripted cable drama (like "The Real Housewives..." shows) are present, including in-fighting by a few members of the clique and ridiculous displays of opulence.
-
Start-Ups: Silicon Valley may be set in the Bay Area, but its heart beats on the Jersey Shore.
-
Start-Ups isn't very good, or very original, neither of which should come as a huge surprise. But what's really too bad is that the show misses a great opportunity to capture the singular mix of ambition and creativity that makes Silicon Valley so special.
-
It's a show which focuses on a bunch of pretty, white young entrepreneurs with a sense of entitlement that is actually so revolting--especially in this day of mourning and sadness--that you might want to throw your TV set through a window.
