    It's warm and funny, has a pleasant dose of the fantastic, and even manages to throw in a few life lessons along the way, in a manner not nearly as ham- fisted or homily-heavy as shows like Highway to Heaven and Wizard. [19 Sept 1986, p.B1]

    As TV shows go, it may have the most convoluted, tortured premise on record. A new title could resolve its identity crisis: "The Fugitive From Outer Space." It is not so much based on the 1984 film which starred Jeff Bridges as a sequel to it...Even if you saw the movie, you may find the TV show confusing...If you didn't, you may be utterly bewildered.[19 Sept 1986, p.E-1]

    In the opener, the title character learned new terms ("hair-of-the- dog," "bimbo"), but before too many weeks, this particular Starman may comprehend still another phrase: "Midseason replacement." [26 Sept 1986, p.C5]

    I honestly remember reading letters from people who said they cried when they found out this show wasn't coming back after only one season. II honestly remember reading letters from people who said they cried when they found out this show wasn't coming back after only one season. I even remember the letter writing campaign, reported in Starlog Magazine, spearheaded by a multitude of fans hoping to get the show back on the air. There were lots of forgettable TV Shows in the 1980's. But shows like Starman and Quantum Leap were never among them. I missed so many episodes in its original run. Seemed like every time it came on, I heard a horn honk and my various friends wanted go find a party and take me with them. And it was fun, sometimes. But I never seemed to have enough VHS tape to record this show. Fortunately, Sony released it on DVD some time ago and I now own what there is of it. Still tugs on my heart a bit when I watch an episode. And while I did not cry then, I shed a tear now. Very underrated show. Critics reviews only really proved that the critics never really watched much of it. It wasn't really an acquired taste, but rather a show that really 'got to you' after only a handful of episodes.
