After the awful Kenobi and disappointing Bob Fett show this is a huge improvement. It is set in the prequel era and focused on formative moments in the life's of characters. Mostly Ahsoka Tano, and Count Dooku but also a bit of Qui Gon Jinn, Mace Windu and others. I fully enjoyed that you get insight into the characters, their developments and an understanding what drives them. I fully enjoyed that you get insight into the characters, their developments and an understanding what drives them. To be accurate that means not that that there is no action. There are some intense and well choreographed fights. Those are also as amazing as emotional. This mixture is what I want to see more of. Also it shows the cracks in the Republic and Jedi Order. For example: After witnessing what a younger Count Dooku saw I fully understand his motives as I would not be able to tolerate this too. The animations have the refined Clone Wars / Rebels style and I like the nostalgic atmosphere. As always the voice actors are amazing and the soundtrack enhances the atmosphere. Again it is so sneakingly good that I recognized it not immediately (Meant positive). Lets get a spoiler free description of the 6 episodes: “Life and Death” is the story of Ahsoka Tanos birth and more would be too much spoilers. “Justice” has a young Count Dooku with his Padawan Qui Gon Jinn on a mission to free the captive son of a senator. However it is much more different or gray than it seems. “Choices” follows Count Dooku and Mace Windu on a mission to retrieve a dead Jedi master. It shows the difference in those two. “The Sith Lord” deals with Qui Gon Jinns and Dookus relationship and is a bittersweet masterpiece that completes Count Dookus arc. “Practice makes perfect” is about Anakin and Ahsoka and he gives her a lesson that will be incredible useful later on. The final episode “Resolve” ends Ahsoka’s arc here and I love it. Overall this is short but excellent. I like the insights into the characters, their motivations and formative moments. The fights are well done but I see them as icing on the cake. I give a 9/10 and hope we get more like this. Be warned that Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett may be improved my rating as those are horrible in comparison. Expand

    amazing short series.
really loved it that we get to see how Dooku turned against the Jedi and show his motives what made him turn.
giving more depth to the character

Eh, more Disney Star Wars. Make a bunch of content quick and get it out there to keep your dwindling fan base holding on for the next thing to consume. Had a few insights into a few beloved characters’ pasts and some artistic sequences but otherwise no stories that really needed telling especially in such a short medium where you really didn’t even do much with the allotted time. You’ll get way more backstory into these characters by just reading the books or, hell, using your own imagination. SPOILERS (are they really though?)
The first episode instantly put me off. It was pointless. Derivative Jungle Book story firstly. Somehow an infant with force sensitivity tames a ferocious beast with one touch and can command it. Ridiculous. Also, how did she get on his back when she can’t even walk? DON’T KNOW. 13 minutes of unoriginal BS just to tell us what we already know: Asoka is force sensitive. Actually, no, not even that subtle. The show tells us she’s a Jedi as an infant. Lol that’s now this works, show. The rest is alright for the short time investment it takes to finish it. I did it in one sitting. Best parts are Count Drop-a-Dookie’s brief moments showing him slipping to the dark side and mourning the loss of Qui-be-Gon. Otherwise it’s all completely pointless. It relies heavily on dramatic music and visual tones rather than worthwhile storytelling and real character development. I’d rather have a fully fleshed out show focusing on one character that hasn’t gotten much screen time—even a tertiary character in legends. That would be better than this.

It looks awful to me. The animation reminds me of one of those foreign knock-offs Saberspark pans in his videos. After Andor, this just seems silly. I like my Star Wars with less Jedi, tbh.

This beautifully done series is a much needed win for the franchise.
Due to its reduced duration and scope, Tales of the Jedi doesn't quite reach the heights of The Clone Wars and Rebels, with their epic stories, characters and themes, nor the subtle brilliant subtext of The Bad Batch. Due to its reduced duration and scope, Tales of the Jedi doesn't quite reach the heights of The Clone Wars and Rebels, with their epic stories, characters and themes, nor the subtle brilliant subtext of The Bad Batch. However, after The Mandalorian, Boba Fett and Kenobi and their plain plots, lots of fan service, and messy direction, these stories feel very refreshing, although can feel a bit rushed and lacking of enough depth to justify their appearance.
The characters are well written and their stories emotional, and although some can think that seing Ahsoka again will feel repetitive, it works well enough. And Dooku's story, although misses some good opportunities, is truly great.
In terms of technicals, Filoni's animated team delivers again: the animation and art design are gorgeous, Kevin Kiner outdoes himself with great compositions and the direction, although could seem pretentious (as with Andor) ends up being subtle and powerful.
It will probably satisfy most fans.

The writing in this is SO much better than what we had in Boba and Obi-Wan.

Very impressed with this and glad they're going in a more adult direction with it.

Филони всегда окружало куча талантливых людей и сам Филони умеет в режиссуру... Но сценарий... Такой картон... 8 сезонов клонов прошло, а прогресса так и нет.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show is exceptional. It's the best components of drama/action + storytelling (visually & narratively) that Clone Wars & Rebels used just minus the...light-hearted/comical tones those star wars shows mix in. Obviously a 15-18min ep that's really good leaves the viewer wanting more (& more) but it's fine. Wanting more is a good thing.
This show has some of the best scenes/sequences I've ever seen in a star wars show or movie. The show literally gets better and better as the episodes fly by.
A few episodes leave a little bit to be desired so the short run times make it feel like wasted opportunities.
The episodes fill in some plot holes for these characters in the Star Wars universe during key times and its very awesome to see. The scores/compositions give each episode a distinct vibe/atmosphere/pace that IMO work really really well.
Absolutely outstanding. If they can make 4-5 seasons of this... it would EASILY be my favorite star wars animated show.

It's simple yet fun! The animation is great and the Dooku stuff is really good.

While the stories themselves are pretty fully told in their 11-15 minute runtimes, it’s definitely to the viewer’s advantage to watch all six episodes to get the full picture. ... Tales Of The Jedi brings some familiar prequel trilogy characters back to our screens, in stories that fill in more Clone Wars canon, which is always a plus.

Tales of the Jedi doesn’t have enough time to build out an intricate world and cast of its own. It’s left in an in-between state, simultaneously too light on narrative content and too laden with lore to stand by itself. ... If neither Ahsoka nor Dooku feel fully fleshed out in Tales of the Jedi, both are interesting enough to capture the 40-ish minutes of our time they each demand here.

If you take it as a given that “Star Wars” is going to indulge in what’s derisively referred to as “fan service,” then by all means, do it as well and as slickly as this.
