Don't let the childish animation fool you. This series does an excellent job in building off the Star Wars universe.

To be fair I must point out that the first season is a bit weaker but gained momentum towards the end. Lets start with the cast: They truly have won me during the show over and I like the patch work family style. We have Hera Syndulla who is the captain of the Ghost and team mom. Kanan Jarrus is a former Padawan who survived Order 66. Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian warrior and skilled artist (Maybe close to an obsession). Erza Bridger who was a scoundrel or con artist. Garazeb Orrelios who is the muscle of the team with a more complex character than it seems. Finally we have the droid Chopper who enters the list of great droid characters in Star Wars. The crew has a great dynamic, good chemistry and enjoyable quirks that result often in interesting situations. It ends not here as the other characters are good too. There is of cause our favorite grand admiral, the inquisitors, the remarkable agent Kallus, Saw, Wedge, Hondo who became one of my favorites and many more. The show has such a great enjoyable cast that I can only praise them. Story: Each character has individual story arcs and development. The longer the show goes the more you learn about them. The main story is about the struggle of the Rebels in fighting the Empire which has by far the superiority in manpower, firepower and resources. There will also be a lot of philosophical themes and moral dilemmas without easy answers. In total there are a lot of strong stories, believable character developments and lots of memorable moments. The strengths are that the story and characters are really good interwoven. For details you can read my reviews of all seasons here on Metacritic. Presentation: Visually the show looks really good. It has my favorite art style. All characters look great and the animations fully cover the range of emotions. The battles are intense and immersive be it duels, firefights or space battles. You can see that a lot of effort was put into the show. The soundtrack is remarkable good. It enhances the atmosphere and is praiseworthy too. Overall this was an amazing show I truly enjoyed and can recommend. If you want more details and a list of my favorite episodes you can look at my season reviews. Expand

EachThis show is not on the same level as the Clone Wars, not even close. But it still holds up well. As someone who wasn't a fan of Clone Wars' anthology story, I greatly prefer the overarching plot shown here as it is a lot more focused. Each season has two clear cut antagonists. Season 1 had the Grand Inquisitor & Kallus; Season 2 had Vader & the other Inquisitors; Season 3 had Thrawn & Maul and Season 4 had Thrawn & Pryce. The protagonists didn't change much as the show went on, it was mostly just the Ghost Crew, which meant that their story could be fully fleshed out in this one, singular series. The crew is as follows: Ezra, Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb & Chopper. And the only other major characters besides that are Ahsoka and Rex, so the story stays simple and has a lot of freedom as a singular story.

However, the characters themselves aren't as good. Sabine's average, and is just a walking advertisement, to be honest. Zeb simply doesn't need to exist and is just Chewie but has way too much to say. And Ezra's honestly awful. He has *some* things going for him, but if anything good exists in this show, Ezra's there to ruin it somehow.

I know a lot of people don't like the art style, but I think it's fine. Not incredible, and I prefer how Clone Wars looked, but it doesn't bother me.

You should probably give this one a shot. It's aimed at kids, but it at least tries to break that 'kiddy garbage' barrier to please everyone. If I was to describe it in one phrase, I'd definitely call it a good show, with a lot of flaws.

7/10 ~ B

A very interesting series, which goes improving every season (and even with every chapter). A excellent succesor of The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni has made it again.

Season 1 is definitely a slow build but with solid main characters and a decent season-long story arc, It makes for an enjoyable show. It still has quite a ways to match the quality of CLone Wars but it's getting there.

This show ended in a great way and really builds up towards something that in my opinion is much better than clone wars.

Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, Carrie Beck, and other creatives fulfilled the impossible task of remixing the genetics of George Lucas's original trilogy. Along the way, Rebels crafts a story with the scope of Tolkien, the warmth of Miyazaki, and the depth of Kurosawa. The show is filled to the brim with humanistic characters, and it grapples with concepts like morality, loss, and responsibility in a way that kids will enjoy and parents will admire. If you can get through the show's more lighthearted early episodes and all the way to the thrilling end, you will not regret the experience. Expand
