    The few episodes of the clone wars that I caught on tv were actually not bad. Some of it was even kinda dark (clones shot a unarmed traitor jedi in his cell, cold **** It may have been an animated show, but it made you question morality. Some episodes even show kids to have a little perspective. Not all the separatists were bad, you arent supposed to take things at face value. I get that its supposed to be a kids show, but its freaking star wars. We grew up watching the live-action movies as little kids. This is honestly the goddamn backyardigans with lightsabers, even the computer animation has been softened up. It sucks this show is canon, huge disappointment. Maybe those that cant sit through the brain dead fluff fest that is Rebels will get a grittier novel or something. Have we forgotten that we grew up with violent cartoons? Batman beyond, Dragon Ball z, Transformers, Thundercats, He-man. People bleed, and people die, I have no honest idea why they made this cartoon just so damn weak!… Expand

    the lightsabers in this show are stupid , inquisitor saber spin around wheel saber is about as dumb as abrams hilt saber..... NOw erza blaster/saber combo is probably the worst.     the only thing i like about this show is the at-dp drivers and the imperial cadet helm which is based off old concept art RM

    Sadly exclusively suited for kids aging 9 and below, Disney Cancer Wars stroke again. It's a disgrace TCW had to die for this, which was a very very solid show after the first two seasons.

    When we are gonna get a mature SW tv show? this show is bad , much worse than the clone wars, is boring, kanan is an i.diot, the boy is aladin with a lightsaber, the story line is not interesting( it is but they dont make it like that)...im sitll waiting, they got the entire galaxy far far away to tell this crap. Skip it!!

    I wasn't expecting much from this show and the first five or so episodes were meh, but this show has completely blown away my expectations and season 2 is even better.

    The Clone Wars was meh to me, but this show feels like Star Wars

    The show, while not horrible, is very boring in my opinion. The characters aren't original, and are just rip offs from the original three movies. You got your wise Jedi teacher the young student who is just introduced to the force, and the crew that becomes his family. The show will try to bring in guess stars like R2 and Lando Carrissian, but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. TheThe show, while not horrible, is very boring in my opinion. The characters aren't original, and are just rip offs from the original three movies. You got your wise Jedi teacher the young student who is just introduced to the force, and the crew that becomes his family. The show will try to bring in guess stars like R2 and Lando Carrissian, but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The part that I actually enjoy of this show are the Imperials. They're ruthless, don't except incompetence, and the inquisitor is by far the best character in the show. The 1st season had about 3 good episodes out of ten where I wasn't annoyed with the characters and the plot. Not horrible, but needs to improve greatly for me to continue watching.… Expand

    My 12 year old and I appreciate it whilst browsing through other stuff.
    It doesn't request much attention, though you may once in a while be attracted to it's cute but simplistic graphics.
    Honestly, if you've got nothing better to watch, why not ?

    The    Disney XD's take on star wars is without sugar-coating it... disappointing, I know that Star wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels are two entirely different series made by entirely different studios but seeing as the animation / art styles are very similar between the two and many characters from 'The Clone Wars' make guest appearances, It's very hard not to draw comparisons.

    The main gripe I have with 'Rebels' is the complete murder of any sort of 'tone' or 'mood' established in 'The Clone Wars' which proved a success with both Children and Adults. 'Rebels' made a point of Injecting 'Disney' into the Star Wars franchise, You always knew Esra and his crew would make it out in the end, there'd be sparing character development, maybe something to lead onto another episode, but it all felt very... cookie-cutter.
    To sum it up:
    Esra and co. steal something -> Something goes wrong -> Imperials turn up -> Esra and co. escape in the most Cliche way you can Imagine.
    I know Disney has a reputation of appealing more to children in it's animated features / shows but the ignorance to 'Clone Wars' really felt like a missed opportunity.
    *SPOILERS*
    Comparing an episode from both series, Episode one of 'Star wars: Rebels' shows the Merry band of rebels recruiting a young Esra and taking him under their wing as a budding Jedi in an effort to locate and rescue a bunch of Wookie prisoners, Although the characters make some very... strange logic calls in the episode (Imperial Commander choosing to shoot at the armed Jedi [Who he has seen deflect Blaster bolts with ease.] Instead of the defenseless Esra and wookie. Then having his blaster bolt reflected back at him. ) The episode follows through in a very 'Disney-esque' way with the heroes coming out on top with zero repercussions, leaving the bad guy stranded on the edge of a mining platform with a lippy storm-trooper. Horray, Happy ending, ( This trend is pretty much constant throughout the first season.)

    In comparison I'll draw to one of the first episodes of 'The Clone Wars' I had ever seen, aptly named 'Rookies', In which a group of 'not-too-concerned about the war' clone troopers are stationed on a remote listening post that comes under attack from droid commandos, The episode ultimately ends in a rather sad way, with one of the troopers sacrificing his life to blow up the Station and all of the droids with it, even with a rather bad-ass one-liner.

    Although sad, this is something I respected immensely from lucas-arts, the ability to confront the death of likeable characters, The continued a trend of realism throughout the show, Not painting the 'Seperatists' or 'Empire' in Rebels as stereotypical 'moustache-twirling' villains. The fact that perspective often changed between many different protagonists and even factions gave the show new breath when one arc seemed to loose it's steam, ( I can recall an entire arc devoted solely to Bounty-hunters! )
    Whereas Rebels sticks to the same crew of six, the same villains, the same 'Poster people' of the Star-wars franchise, Rebels just seemed afraid to explore the lore of Star wars, voting to rather stick to it's cookie-cutter disney routine of "Good vs Evil, Good wins, Evil is back next week."

    Disney must realize at some point that adults and children alike would do well to have a bit of morality to their 'Star wars' experience instead of the usual 'Good versus Evil' forumla, 'Clone wars' had the same formula granted, but it was put in a far more 'Digestible' form, with both sides having an impressive amount of depth.

    My 11 year old nephew came from 'Clone wars' to 'Rebels' and frankly found it insulting how 'condescending' disney had decided to make Rebels.

    Overall Disney has disappointed me in this latest dive into the animated world of 'Star wars' and I sincerely hope 'Rebels' takes a more mature spin in it's future seasons, developing new characters and adding to it's tiny rogues gallery / hero selection.    … Expand

    The story was a bit meh, the Characters was meh, the storm trooper was stupid and clumsy and the fight sceens are so boring. I prefer the clone wars it is much better and fun

I get that, and I'm totally fine with that. BUT now I'm hearing that there are aspects of Star Wars lore in Rebels that will tie into the world of the next trilogy and beyond. I tried, I couldn't. It's so mindlessly dumbed down that I can't watch it. THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALADDIN (i'm not being racist, the point is the next sentence). The voice acting is overly cartoonish and goofy; the females sound like their talking to toddlers, cooing almost. The dialogue is as mindless as a Disney straight-to-dvd sequel. This isn't fitting for a huge universe like Star Wars. If you have to make this series so childish, how can you expect them to enjoy the films?! That is assuming the new films fit JJ's resume. If my enjoyment of the sequel trilogy rides on my knowledge of Rebels, that's just unfair. If you're still curious to watch it, please do. To give you one last impression of mine, I was at Subway the other day and saw a promo poster of Rebels with one character holding A SLINGSHOT WITH THE ROPE MADE OF LIGHTSABER LASER.… Expand

The Inquisitor, who is this guy??? How does he even fit into the Star wars theme? I cannot think of a single episode that I like. It's a cartoon, aimed at kids, and as a small part of the Star Wars mythos, it could potentially be ok, with a little fact-checking by the writers. However, in addition to being a children's cartoon, it's also the start of Disney's new "canon" take on Star Wars, and the foundation of their overwriting of the EU. Chopper may be the best droid character of all time just ahead of HK47 and Grand Admiral Thrawn is an antagonist that is everything General Hux is not. What impresses me most about the writing is the strong female characters (Sabine, Hera) without the SJWThis show has some weak points in the first season but really hits its stride in the 2nd season if you put the time in to enjoy it.     Kids will love the show for its simplistic action, relatable protagonist, and of course, lightsabers and the Force. Adults looking for more mature themes, nuanced story, philosophical exposition, will find this show, like its Clone Wars predecessor, a massive disappointment. I'll stick to the non-YA books.

    Season 1 is of zero consequence for the star wars universe, with which they have very little interaction. This is possibly the intention, as its based on a formula:
    Ezra - The protagonist. Ezra is an utterly empty character.    At the start of Season 1 the total viewers dropped from 3million down to remain at ~500,000. This is compared to a consistent 5million for The Clone Wars.
    Season 1 is of zero consequence for the star wars universe, with which they have very little interaction. This is possibly the intention, as its based on a formula:

    Ezra - The protagonist. Ezra is an utterly empty character. Everything he says and does is simply reactive to events. With a stereotypically childish slingshot. Depth? Later he cuts his hair and grows 3 feet.

    Zeb - "The muscle of the group. He's great at smashing things, including things he doesn't mean to smash."

    Sabine - "The artistic one". She draws and has dyed hair that changes every season. Her stereotype is aggression. Shes a walking appeal to feminine emancipation (the disneyization kind).

    Hera - Motherly character who always does the ethical thing and tells people what to do.

    Kanan - Apparently a Jedi master without a backbone. Doesnt have anything wise to say other than typical jedi stuff. He gives in to Ezra most of the time, as they can't let a stroppy parental figure get in the way of the young viewers wishes. They later attempt to add some depth to him by removing his eyes.

    Season 2 gets a little more interesting when some characters from the previous series/movies turn up.

    It's really sad to see the clone wars and Rebels disgrace Star wars, because it's nothing more than a colourful Kids series, it's like all the other series on Disney Channel. It's not bad for kids, but Star wars should be more mature and dark, especially after Episode 3.
    And by the way, the looks and the Action are horrible, i have the feeling it was just made for money

    Featuring cameos from Bail Organa, Lando, Yoda and Darth Vader, the show really picks up towards the end of the season, when Grand Moff, Wilhuff Tarkin shows up to deal with the Rebels and consequences finally come to bear on them. Stephen Stanton voices Tarkin and does a fantastic job of evoking Peter Cushing's heartless, chilling portrayal.

    The animation is beautifully clear with a subdued colour palete, very in keeping with the original trilogy, the characters are likeable and well acted and the music, by Kevin Kiner, mixes just the right amount of iconic themes in with new pieces. All in all, a great start to, hopefully, a fantastic ongoing show.    … Expand

    rebels is one of those shows that sell at 2 pounds a season, the ones nobody buys, and are in the bargain bins, where as the clone wars stands proud all in its blu ray condition next to the the movies at the front of the store.

    Gives a new perspective on the franchise and the creators handle each character very well.Especially Grand Admiral Thrawn.And if you watched the show since the beginning the ghost crew has grown into better characters.

    It's got a great story line, likable individuals and a bit of emotion all complimenting a great franchise. Given a chance by viewers, it could become more successful then the Clone Wars. Because of it's original characters, it's got more flexibility in it's storyline which makes it more fun and enjoyable in the typical star wars fashion.

I'm glad that this is a alternative for the children who's parents wouldn't let them see The Clone Wars, due to its violence and even sometimes, gore.

    I have a few nitpicks about rebels, but the first season of TWC was WAY more rocky than this season. In fact, it's 2x the better start of a season than TWC was. I thought I wouldn't return after the first few episodes, but after watching it, I'm certain I'll keep watching every week as long as they retain this more light hearted adventurous - but serious, alternative to the animated Star Wars series most Star Wars fans adored.    … Expand

    I was disappointed, like a lot, when Clone Wars got cancelled. I was thinking that Rebels is made to make the core fans shut up and swallow what they want to put in our throats. But, finishing the first season, I realized that I have mistaken.

    Cons:
    - Great story
    - Powerful animation
    - Immersive interactions
    - Characters
    - Familiar faces.

    This show is super. Naturally there are some "kiddie" elements, but the creators are clearly aware that older fans are interested in watching. Further, IMO this is instantly superior to The Clone Wars in that we have a team that we're going to grow with, where as in TCW we already knew what would happen to all the characters and as such its contributions to the story were minimal to none.This show is super.     Good show, its on Disney and clearly geared towards children but enjoyable if you are a Star Wars fan. I grew up loving the original trilogy. I never got into the clone wars series but look forward to this one. I like the idea of following a Jedi in training from the beginning as well as a different look at the rebellion.     Not comparing it to any show/movie before it, I would still give Star Wars Rebels a 10/10. As someone who grew up on the original trilogy, this show is a true extension for a newer generation.

    Compared to the Clone Wars tv show, Rebels far surpasses Clone Wars' first 4 seasons...which is only room for excitement.

    At first I was very skeptical of the new Star Wars Rebels tv show, but after watching its first 2 episodes, I felt right at home with it. I think the main factor to this is I'm so sick of the clone wars cannon and never could really get into it. This show feels like Star Wars and give me the feeling I had when I first saw Star Wars for the first time.

    The pilot was weak and I really hated it. It set the wrong tone. Too goofy, too childish. Then the series starts quite weak, but it gets better and better over time until eventually it is pretty decent.

    I loved this show. Great characters, lots of action but still with a focus on the characters. Great plot development plus the whole jedi theme makes sense. Thrilling and adventurous. It helped me destress for quite a number of days.

    This show brought back Star Wars in a big way and reintroduced the characters of Ahsoka and Anakin from the previous season in an incredibly interesting way.

    'Star Wars Rebels' is the show for the fanboys. There haven't been a show like this one before, that really respects the original material of the films. Add fascinating references and humor to the plot and you got real entertainment like this one! It's a funny ride into the galaxy far, far away, and it's much different to 'The Clone Wars'. We see human connection, humor, understanding and real feel for them. They interact in a natural and clever way that's never forced nor bad. Attachment and likability is a present thing only after a few episodes! The plot often got a real purpose, and to follow these characters against the evil empire and at the same time getting stronger against them is a fun thing to do.

    Many deep characteristic moments are a present thing in Rebels, especially between the character Kanan and Ezra, who often fight against their past and the want-to of the dark side of the force. Our main characters are wonderful, both from a personal and critical point of view. The villain however, does not have that much depth nor feel to him. Sure he's very menacing what a protagonist should be like, but I want more fear and depth to him in the future! The way 'Star Wars Rebels' was made is extraordinary. The animation is very good for a tv-show, and there's even some very good camerawork and splendid visuals here and there. My biggest complains however must be on the show itself. It's very flawless, but it still could have been much more. Take the action for example; it's not that unique nor mind-blowing. The plot might be too simple too, it's not something advanced. 'Star Wars Rebels' need a more nuanced and complex story. Sure, it's primarely a show made for kids, but I still think it can improve to the better! A secondary "flaw" might be the dialogs; which are incredible in comparison with what 'The Clone Wars' had. But it sometimes can feel a bit too forced, especially in situations where characters have exposition-reveals through their dialogs. Some lines are unnecessary too, even for a tv-show for kids. But other than that is 'Star Wars Rebels' really a great show that really is funny and entertaining for kids as adults, and that really got the original feel of Star Wars.

    Overall personal rating for each episode: 7.75.

    Though firmly in the Lucas tradition, this is also a Disney cartoon, for a Disney crowd and a Disney corporation--watching, you can almost feel the plastic and the plush--and whatever the characters are up to, however cute or sentimental the business, it is smartly designed and cinematically staged, and not hard to enjoy.

    It’s a better-than-average, serious-minded science-fiction cartoon, with well-executed space chases and battles but also an introspection more reminiscent of Japanese anime than of the usual American children’s animation.
