I wasn't expecting much from this show and the first five or so episodes were meh, but this show has completely blown away my expectations and season 2 is even better.

A Star Wars show worthy of the original trilogy, feeling very similar in tone to the 3 superior films. Some of the usual quibbles for me, with gravity defying, non-Jedi heroes, useless Stormtroopers (but hey, at least we've got Stormtroopers!), infeasibly massive structures, ever evolving lightsaber designs and R2-D2 and C3-PO turning up at every point in the Star Wars timelineA Star Wars show worthy of the original trilogy, feeling very similar in tone to the 3 superior films. Featuring cameos from Bail Organa, Lando, Yoda and Darth Vader, the show really picks up towards the end of the season, when Grand Moff, Wilhuff Tarkin shows up to deal with the Rebels and consequences finally come to bear on them. Stephen Stanton voices Tarkin and does a fantastic job of evoking Peter Cushing's heartless, chilling portrayal.

The animation is beautifully clear with a subdued colour palete, very in keeping with the original trilogy, the characters are likeable and well acted and the music, by Kevin Kiner, mixes just the right amount of iconic themes in with new pieces. All in all, a great start to, hopefully, a fantastic ongoing show.

It's got a great story line, likable individuals and a bit of emotion all complimenting a great franchise. Given a chance by viewers, it could become more successful then the Clone Wars. Because of it's original characters, it's got more flexibility in it's storyline which makes it more fun and enjoyable in the typical star wars fashion.

It shouldn't be compared to TWC, and after watching the first 5 episodes of this first season, I now understand that. Both children and adults alike will enjoy. They retained the adventurous Star Wars feel, with still keeping it child friendly for a TV-Y7 rating (and believe me, it doesn't get in the way of some deaths, in fact more deaths than I would have thought before seeing it). I'm glad that this is a alternative for the children who's parents wouldn't let them see The Clone Wars, due to its violence and even sometimes, gore.

I have a few nitpicks about rebels, but the first season of TWC was WAY more rocky than this season. In fact, it's 2x the better start of a season than TWC was. I thought I wouldn't return after the first few episodes, but after watching it, I'm certain I'll keep watching every week as long as they retain this more light hearted adventurous - but serious, alternative to the animated Star Wars series most Star Wars fans adored.

I was disappointed, like a lot, when Clone Wars got cancelled. I was thinking that Rebels is made to make the core fans shut up and swallow what they want to put in our throats. But, finishing the first season, I realized that I have mistaken.

    Cons:
    - Great story
    - Powerful animation
    - Immersive interactions
    - Characters
    - Familiar faces.

This show is super. Naturally there are some "kiddie" elements, but the creators are clearly aware that older fans are interested in watching. Further, IMO this is instantly superior to The Clone Wars in that we have a team that we're going to grow with, where as in TCW we already knew what would happen to all the characters and as such its contributions to the story were minimal to none. This show is super. I very much look forward to watching Ezra become a Jedi under Kanan's tutelage. You can already tell what a dangerous choice it is to train him (Kanan never actually becoming a Knight and Ezra being headstrong, impatient, and frustrated) and I'm sure some seriously awesome adventure will ensue with that arc while they take on Palpatine's new born empire.

Not comparing it to any show/movie before it, I would still give Star Wars Rebels a 10/10. As someone who grew up on the original trilogy, this show is a true extension for a newer generation.

Compared to the Clone Wars tv show, Rebels far surpasses Clone Wars' first 4 seasons...which is only room for excitement.

At first I was very skeptical of the new Star Wars Rebels tv show, but after watching its first 2 episodes, I felt right at home with it. I think the main factor to this is I'm so sick of the clone wars cannon and never could really get into it. This show feels like Star Wars and give me the feeling I had when I first saw Star Wars for the first time.

'Star Wars Rebels' is the show for the fanboys. There haven't been a show like this one before, that really respects the original material of the films. Add fascinating references and humor to the plot and you got real entertainment like this one! It's a funny ride into the galaxy far, far away, and it's much different to 'The Clone Wars'. We see human connection, humor, understanding and real feel for them. They interact in a natural and clever way that's never forced nor bad. Attachment and likability is a present thing only after a few episodes! The plot often got a real purpose, and to follow these characters against the evil empire and at the same time getting stronger against them is a fun thing to do.

Many deep characteristic moments are a present thing in Rebels, especially between the character Kanan and Ezra, who often fight against their past and the want-to of the dark side of the force. Our main characters are wonderful, both from a personal and critical point of view. The villain however, does not have that much depth nor feel to him. Sure he's very menacing what a protagonist should be like, but I want more fear and depth to him in the future! The way 'Star Wars Rebels' was made is extraordinary. The animation is very good for a tv-show, and there's even some very good camerawork and splendid visuals here and there. My biggest complains however must be on the show itself. It's very flawless, but it still could have been much more. Take the action for example; it's not that unique nor mind-blowing. The plot might be too simple too, it's not something advanced. 'Star Wars Rebels' need a more nuanced and complex story. Sure, it's primarely a show made for kids, but I still think it can improve to the better! A secondary "flaw" might be the dialogs; which are incredible in comparison with what 'The Clone Wars' had. But it sometimes can feel a bit too forced, especially in situations where characters have exposition-reveals through their dialogs. Some lines are unnecessary too, even for a tv-show for kids. But other than that is 'Star Wars Rebels' really a great show that really is funny and entertaining for kids as adults, and that really got the original feel of Star Wars.

Everything from the art design based on the late Ralph McQuarrie' concept art of the original trilogy, to the personalities of the characters feeling familiar yet not exactly carbon copies of original characters of the film to even going as far as to keep the same blend of comedy, action, adventure, but still have its moments of darkness and tragedy that the original films perfectly represented in the most subtle fashion possible. Every character is unique and likable in their own way without succumbing to cliches, the villains are sinister and intimidating, the atmosphere and animation fit the style perfectly into the world of Star Wars in a way better than any cartoon series has ever done, including the mixed bag that is Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The movie also incorporates the ingenious writing that the films have incorporated without having to rip off the dialogue of the original or prequels, although there is one moment when they borrow one of the most famous line from the original film to incorporate what the Force actually is, but it plays it so smoothly, you barely even notice it unless you listen carefully. While the film incorporates the weight, and the style perfectly well, it doesn't incorporate the same pacing as the films. Given that this is only a 44 minute long movie, it show that its structure isn't too perfectly pieced together, and at times, it feels a little bit rushed even in times that are crucial to the film. However, even with its slightly clunky pacing, the film lasts longer than 44 minutes, as it keeps you perfectly entertained throughout the entirety of the movie, so well that you forget that this movie is shorter than it is, something that I've never seen many movies do before.

To anyone who's skeptical about Disney's take into the Star Wars Canon, this movie has everything perfectly fitted for everyone, kiddies, teens, adults, fans, non fans, family, it has everything for everyone without falling to any dumb little tropes that many people associate Disney with, which is completely unfair and untrue given Disney's track record with its classic and even recently its modern animation. Overall, Star Wars Rebels: The Spark of Rebellion is a wonderfully crafted movie, more than well-deserving of having its place in the Star Wars timeline. Given that the film and the show was made by Dave Filoni, who also worked with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and also directed a few episodes of Avatar The Last Airbender, its obvious that this movie and its show are in great hands, and I'm very excited for the beginning of the show which I have purchased the seasons pass on iTunes for. The movie had some occasional clunky pacing, but the writing, animation, characters and story give this movie and its show a perfect start into a new story in the Star Wars saga.

The season finale includes a great surprise.

The second season is incredibly satisfying as it deals with resolving many of the arcs, previously started in ''The Clone Wars'' including the return of many fan favorites from the former show, the Season Finale is a show changer, and probably the highlight of the show so far. And promises a darker 3rd Season.

The 3rd Season includes the long awaited return of a Fan Favorite, from the classic ''Legends'' books.

The only minor complaint is that it seems to show less violence than ''The Clone Wars''. There's man guest characters reprising their roles from the Saga but I didn't mention them due to the spolierific nature.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rebels tried to follow The Clone Wars steps, but it has failed. Not entirely, I think they've developed good characters and story-lines, but they've failed in some aspects. The Jedi never kill anyone in the series. The only "murder" is done at stormtroopers with blasters, they don't kill anyone with the lighsabers. Even when Darth Maul kills one of the Inquisitors, Disney censured the scene. Rebels is made for children, and you, as an adult cannot have further involvement with it. It tries to pass a moral lesson in the 2nd season's last episodes, but it failed miserably. They have won me over and I like the patch work family style. We have Hera Syndulla who is the captain of the Ghost and team mom. Kanan Jarrus is a former Padawan who survived Order 66. Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian warrior and skilled artist (Maybe close to an obsession). Erza Bridger who was a scoundrel or con artist. Garazeb Orrelios who is the muscle of the team with a more complex character than it seems. Finally we have the droid Chopper who enters the list of great droid characters in Star Wars. The crew has a great dynamic, good chemistry and enjoyable quirks that result often in interesting situations. For the antagonist we got agent Kallus who looks like he will become their nemesis for the whole show (only have seen season 1 so far), the grand inquisitor who is enjoyable evil and another character late in the show I wont spoil (Also a teaser for 2 awesome character for season 2). Of cause there will be so familiar faces making appearances too. So far the characters are really good. For the story there a better and weaker episodes. This prevents a higher rating for me. Like I already said the beginning and final episodes of season 1 are really good. Visually the style of the show is impressively good. I liked it better that The Clone Wars which was not bad either. I think I give my recommendations / favorite episodes list before my conclusion: “Spark of Rebellion part 1 and 2” set up the character, setting and premise of the show. It won me over and it is truly enjoyable. “Rise of the Old Masters” for the idea, plot and resolve that deepens the characters. “Path of the Jedi” for valuable lessons, a special guest appearance and character growth. “Idiots Array” for the hilarious plot, cat and mouse game, humor and resolve. The 3 final episodes “Call to Action”, “Rebel Resolve” and “Fire Across the Galaxy” because of another great guest character, good plot, resolve for the character and great set up for the next season. Overall this was a good start but is also improvable. The weaker episodes took the rating down. Still I would recommend this season for the characters, ideas and enjoyable moments. Expand

It’s a better-than-average, serious-minded science-fiction cartoon, with well-executed space chases and battles but also an introspection more reminiscent of Japanese anime than of the usual American children’s animation.
