    Rewatching Voyager more than two decades after it first aired the special effects, for the most part, still hold up and it certainly had a host of strong and interesting characters. Like all Star Trek series however Voyager was inconsistent throughout its entire seven season run and that is certainly the case even in this first season. Alongside some fantastically written episodes that could match the very best of television sci-fi viewers were also subjected to a number of forgettable, and sometimes downright awful, episodes.

    In the end despite some clunky dialogue and a number of missed opportunities to push the boundaries a little further Star Trek: Voyager made a worthy addition to the franchise and usually proved to be at least a somewhat entertaining watch.    … Expand

    Hélas, l’équipage de cancres est toujours en retenue à tenter de noyer le poisson sous une palanchiée de jargon ésotérico-technique à deux crédits… Résultat : le bulletin est catastrophique, on se fait chier comme un rat crevé en apesanteur dans un trou noir spatio-temporel à double parasol.

    En outre, l’écriture est au ras du plancher, les comédiens sont plus à l’ouest que notre bon vieux Tryphon, les effets ‘spéciaux’ sont limite et limités tandis que de leur côté, la naïveté et la connerie sont ici réglées au maximum.    … Expand

    While it has it moments and good episodes it is overall pretty mediocre. TNG and DS9 also started weaker and improved with later seasons and there is no difference here. The main problem is that there are overall more weak or mediocre episodes in Voyager. The characters and set up are awesome. Think about it: Trapped 70 years away from home in an unfamiliar part of the galaxy with twoWhile it has it moments and good episodes it is overall pretty mediocre. TNG and DS9 also started weaker and improved with later seasons and there is no difference here. The main problem is that there are overall more weak or mediocre episodes in Voyager. The characters and set up are awesome. Think about it: Trapped 70 years away from home in an unfamiliar part of the galaxy with two crews with totally different mindsets that must work together. Great set up. The characters are also interesting. Three of my favorite Star Trek characters are from Voyager (The doctor, Seven of Nine and Chakotay). The first season is however as similar to the other series the set up or growing into their roles. There are no huge mistakes here because of this. Some say that Neelix is annoying and I think SF Debris made a category “Stupid Neelix Moment" when rating Voyager episodes. I disagree but think it is valid for some. What surprised me is that there is no season finale. While it is one of my recommendations for the season it is nothing to write home about in comparison to other seasons or final episodes in DS9 or TNG seasons. Overall it was worthwhile but unremarkable. Nothing outstanding good or bad. My recommendations for this season are: “Phage” for the introduction of the Vidiians and moral dilemma. “Eye of the Needle” for the set up, story and conclusion. “Ex post Facto” for the idea of the punishment, mystery and plot. One of my favorite episodes of the show. When you understand the whole plots it was a remarkable ride. “State of Flux” for Seska, Chakotay and the gamechanging event. “Heroes and Demons” for the doctor and his development. “Cathexis” for the plot and twists. Must mentioned that I can also say generic and a bit foreseeable after one point. “Jetrel” for Jetrel, Neelix and the whole story. Excellent form start to conclusion. “Learning Curve” This is Tuvoks episode and his story with the trainees. Like already mentioned a good episode but for a seson final pretty unremarkable.… Expand

    This is by far the best Space series I ever had the chance to watch. I've been watching the whole series several times. I don't even know how often I actually have seen it but I am still enjoying it. I wish for another Star Trek series made like this where a ship is stranded somewhere faaaaaaar away from the earth and tries to come back. Love Star Trek Voyager. It is just the best of all.

    This show is aggressively mediocre, but it is the worst Star Trek series ever written. It's rife with inconsistencies and plot holes. The show obviously runs out of ideas after about two seasons and defaults to spending every other episode on a malfunctioning holodeck. Seriously, if the holodeck programs keep coming to life and trying to kill people, just have the janitor hang a f**kingThis show is aggressively mediocre, but it is the worst Star Trek series ever written.     The best Star Trek on screen hands down, of all time. Writing, acting and production are all superb, character development and plot are top-notch, and the series touches on all manner of morally ambiguous subject matter, as relevant today as it was two decades ago. Top talent Robert Picardo, Ethan Phillips and of course Kate Mulgrew give the performance of their careers, the rest of theThe best Star Trek on screen hands down, of all time. Writing, acting and production are all superb, character development and plot are top-notch, and the series touches on all manner of morally ambiguous subject matter, as relevant today as it was two decades ago. Top talent Robert Picardo, Ethan Phillips and of course Kate Mulgrew give the performance of their careers, the rest of the crew gives a stellar performance as well. No other sci-fi series, or 'space drama' even comes close to the perfection that is Star Trek Voyager. Don't miss this one.… Expand

    This TVs series is a masterpiece. The characters are amazing, funny and loveable. Graphics were amazing when it came out and still enjoyable. Great story and writing and brilliant concept.

    Not as good as Star Trek TNG but the only spin-off series that I've really been able to get into since TNG was cancelled. Season 1 was kind of weak and the whole time travel/temporal distortion thing was overdone and Janeway annoyed me at first. But even when I watch, Season 1 of my favourite series, Star Trek TNG I see even my favourite shows sometimes have shaky first seasons.

    Janeway    Not as good as Star Trek TNG but the only spin-off series that I've really been able to get into since TNG was cancelled. Season 1 was kind of weak and the whole time travel/temporal distortion thing was overdone and Janeway annoyed me at first. But even when I watch, Season 1 of my favourite series, Star Trek TNG I see even my favourite shows sometimes have shaky first seasons.

    Janeway grows on you overtime. The Doctor is an interesting character who develops over the entire series. Seven, introduced in later seasons is also an interesting character who brings a lot to the show when she shows up. Tuvok is a typical Vulcan. I don't really like B'Elanna Torres as a Klingon, she is way too soft and emotional, I know she's half human but Worf was raised by humans in TNG and he wasn't so soft. Neelix is alright. Other than that the other characters are somewhat mediocre and don't go through much character development from what I remember. Like all spin-off series, the plot is a lot thinner than TNG (not many sub-plots). Of the spin-off series this is the one that is most similar to TNG and the original series (my two favourites) which is probably why this is the spin-off I like most. 9/10 because I reserved 10/10 for TNG and the original series, but still a decent series to watch.    … Expand

    There are tons of people on the net who can do eloquent reviews of every episode(I'd suggest you go check Chuck Sonnenburgs SF Debris) but what can I say about Season 1 of VOY?
    It had a hell of a premise, a crew of mostly fresh-faced Starfleet Officers forced to work with the cynical and world weary Maquis who are left 75 thousand light years away from home. I mean, the writers could have had a blast with the plethora of story opportunities, an evil double of the Federation that does everything they do, but with a sinister edge. See, that came right out of the air while writing this, but what does the series do? It treads the same stagnant water that has been a staple of Trek for eight years, reusing the same tired plots while leaving the better storytelling to the better writers on Voyager's Big Brother DS-9.
    Yet it still had its moments, there were good characters and good episodes, it's just a big shame that they didn't do anything with the stuff they had.    … Expand

    One of my favorites. Currently rewatching the catalog. Just came here to say check out S02E01, it's totally where they got the idea for the television show "Lost."

    The new entry is more action-oriented and less morally ponderous than the recent Star Trek series. But it still suffers from its predecessors' overdeveloped air of gravitas.

    The cast around Mulgrew is excellent. ... Mulgrew, however, drags it all down. Starfleet commanders are not supposed to be this dull, stiff and joyless. As a woman, she's all cardboard and mannish. [16 Jan 1995]
