Strip it of the characters named Picard and Data and get rid of the Starfleet insignia and the Bat'leth on the wall - and it is nothing more than a simple story of a bitter old man with a once better life, a standard textbook plot for first year's screenwriter’s school. But what disappoints even more is the fact that the first episode does not encourage you to want more, the writers did not manage that the viewers start to care about the characters and the events and it simple does not tell you why it is relevant and worth to watch. This is bad writing, period. On top of that, the show kind of looks cheap, no big bang to open with, the locations shots do not convey the look of the 24th century at all. The inside of the borg cube seems to be a rip-off from an old STD set. If this first episode marks the level of quality the procedures can come of with, I rather have an Earl Grey - the real one, not the decaf stuff Jean-Luc drinks now. The 1 point I give is for Dinero who does a hell of a job playing Number One. Expand

Worst thing to happen to trek since... well since discovery. How they managed to repeat those mistakes and add on to them is beyond me...

There are really so many issues with the new show, its hard to even know where to start. In essence, all of Trek before Discovery and Picard has been about exploring different aspects of humanity. The show was crafted so each episode would have a point to it in the form of a lesson or a deep though that highlights something about what it means to be a moral person. Picard is just a show designed to keep people engaged with cliff hangers and plot twist reveals, which is the laziest form of plot writing but it can be very successful as Game of Thrones proved, but Game of Thrones also had good writing to make the cliff hangers feel meaningful. Picard does not. It's clear they did this show on a tight budget and they're trying to stretch out a thin plot with twists and late reveals of crucial info which means there will be very little reason to re-watch any of it later on. People still watch older trek shows because they were made with good plots and interesting ideas that are worth revisiting over time. No one is going to be re-watching Picard for the interesting ideas about humanity because there are none, and really to us trekkies that means Picard is lacking the things that define trek, and why the Orville is really the new Trek show.

This is Blade Runner with old man JL. This show has completely abandoned the core Star Trek audience. Going in a new direction wouldn't even have been so bad if the writing of the show was at least good, but it's not. The show isn't compelling at all. The new characters are forgettable. The few characters we know from past Star Trek shows are nothing like we remember. Every character is broken in some contrived way, and they all seem to give into the darkest impulses of their nature.

A few of the odd things I've noticed. Apparently the Tal Shiar wasn't nefarious enough for Star Trek so now we have a new even more secret secret police the Zhat Vash. The Romulans apparently have some deep cultural hatred for synthetic life that we've never heard of before. There is a new version of the Maquis called the Rangers who do rangery things in the now lawless neutral zone. Why is it lawless? Well apparently the Federation has become isolationist and xenophobic and they've written off the rest of the galaxy. So much for the people who forged a massive alliance and defeated the Dominion. Oh well, we're mean and spiteful people now I guess. Oh and Seven of Nine had a bi-sexual relationship with some evil gangster who betrayed Seven only so she could torture and kill Icheb for his Borg technology. Excellent writing. Unless Q snaps in during a future episode and this all turns out to be him messing with Picard, I don't know how this show pulls out of the nose dive that it's in.

Patrick Stewart had a lot of say about the writing of this show, wouldn't agree to make it unless he did. Well, actors don't make good writers and it shows. I actually thought Patrick Stewart was intelligent, not anymore. It just goes to show, how wonderful the writing was on ST TNG, it made him look good. My heart goes out to Gene, I can only image what he'd think if he were around to see this rubbish! I have missed him greatly since his passing, but not at this moment, I'm glad he's not around to see this abomination. Anything of ST made after Voyager/Enterprise, is not worth your time watching, sadly. RIP Gene, loved your work! At least here, I can give it a ZERO!

Does not follow canon or give you any hope or inspiration for a better future! I grew up watching STO reruns as a teen in the early 70's, fell in love with the show on my first viewing, which happened to be arguably the best STO episode made The City on the Edge of Forever! I also grew to love ST TNG, ST DS9 as an adult and was ecstatic when we had our first female captain in Voyager. But the most gratifying was being able to sit down and watch Voyager with my children, seeing the joy and anticipation for the next episode, the hope for a better future through their eyes, sharing stories of people who were inspired into certain career fields by the show, it didn't get any better than that. Sadly, this is something you can't do with this show! To CBS, don't ever expect me or my family to watch/pay anything made by Kurtzman or with the Kelvan timeline. It's disgusting what you've allowed to happen to Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future & his legacy! The whole lot of you are a disgrace! Expand

Truly some of the worst television I have ever seen. I have tried to imagine how this could be worse, but can't.

As usual Agnes is a one trick pony: a trojan horse for the plot.
What the hell is the point of Rafi? She is stupid, emotional, immoral, just awful.
Picard himself... Man, what a tragedy. This character has been neutered and lobotomised to bring him in line with the production staff.
Q has been obliterated by these idiots. His personality and Picard's have been swapped to a degree. He has no sense of humour, no fun, only anger and sad. Pathetic. And he's been dying before and didn't behave like this, so that's no excuse. This is such garbage. The entirety of the writing is cringe and awful. All of it could be in an ad for a pyramid scheme: it's just ethereal music and slow talking while making no sense.

This show exists as a king of welfare for awful production staff with specific politics. Nobody making this show is good at it. This is the TV equivalent of an asset swap. Genuine 0, truly garbage.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really hoping that Picard would provide traditional Star Trek and was looking forward to it for a long time after how poor Discovery was as a show. Picard has been profoundly disappointing, I cannot believe it. I'm afraid I can't watch anymore after 2 episodes. Star Trek is a very specific product, which is what sets it apart from other sci-fi shows. After watching Discovery and Picard, and now doing some reading that the creators tried to somehow 'update it', they don't seem to realize it does not need updating and they're ruining it. These multi-episode story arcs are not clever, and boring. Traditional Star Trek episodes, even though they will carry a story arc over time, are still supposed to solve an issue or deliver a conclusion to a situation in every episode or two. Picard's episodes have been just a jumbled mess with no conclusion of anything. The science in this show is also absurd and not clever at all. Why would someone beam a team into a room instead of beaming the subject out? This clearly was done for a needless martial arts scene. All of these dark scenes are also terrible, Star Trek is usually well lit. And the constant physical hand to hand combat, although sometimes but rarely in traditional Trek, is in Picard to excess. That's just not the type of show viewers want. And worst of all, Star Trek is not supposed to have a dystopian story, with Starfleet being the bad guy. It's an escape for viewers on what the future holds, and it's not supposed to be bleak. Why would anyone want to watch what the writers have done here? I'm very disappointed.
No one needs to 'update' Star Trek. Classic Star Trek appeals to a very large audience, young and old, and it has done so for decades just fine. Attempting to 'update it' is simply making it into everything else, and you're ruining the product. In any case, I guess I'm stuck with reruns of real Star Trek. It's like a part of my life has died.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What an absolute joke. It's obviously produced by people who dont understand or like Star Trek. Lots of plot holes. A weak old man who can survive massive explosions. Starfleet seeks to be run entirely by whamen... men aren't allowed. Also, what's with all the swearing now? Star Trek used to be inclusive. Now it's a sad empty shell of what it used to be. Someone has uttered a swear word in both of the first two episodes. It just isnt Star Trek. Why is Picard a bitter old man? He seemed to give up so easily from what we are told. But, he was always a fighter, a survivor. This isnt the Picard we all know and love. This dude is an imposter. Another thing, the hipster kids. They all talk like hipsters. I cant remember the word "dude" ever used in ST but its casually dropped in by one of the girls... oh, and will we get an explanation about how a positron brain makes humans have superpowers?? I had to suspend my belief at the idea I couldn't suspend my disbelief at how silly this show is... everyone is bitter and miserable. Theres no joy in Starfleet any more, it would seem. It makes all the other tragedies they went through seem very trivial if their miserable state is being blamed on the Mars attack... but, as the writing is so badly thought out I am thinking I will give the rest of this show a miss and watch my DVD collection of real Star Trek instead. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sigh. To anyone who knows Star Trek, this is not Star Trek. Star Trek as we know it is dead, and now we just have generic action schlock that tries to be dark and edgy like everything else on TV. This show is insulting to the brand, insulting to Rodenberry and what Star Trek stands for and is supposed to be, just like the horrid trash that is Discovery. I'm halfway through the second episode and I just want to cry, it's so depressing to see another universe I love be destroyed by modern Hollywood.
Let's go over a few complaints:
1. Starfleet has been turned into a racist, alien-hating organization as a blatant metaphor for Trump and the right. In other words, Starfleet has been ruined to serve the politics of the show's producers. Disgusting and depressing.
2. Picard is attacked by a reporter in the first scene of the show because he decided not to allow the destructions of the Romulans. Because now Starfleet are the far-right, get it?, and they don't care about the annihilation of an entire species!
3. Both these points go to the bigger issue of the future that Trek has always represented: a positive, bright future where humankind has solved its problems and is moving together into the stars. In Starfleet and on Earth, there's no racism, no nationalism, no money, no poverty or hunger. Well, that's all gone now because Hollywood knows dark, edgy, and "topical" action schlock will reel in the idiots and suckers.
4. Moronic writing throughout the show. For example, a group of elite commandos beam into a room where they have total surprise over two smooching students, and instead of just stunning them immediately (or just beaming them out of the room to another location, lol), they have a kung-fu battle where they try to put a bag over someone's head and throw knives around... omfg, just kill me please.
5. Trek has always revolved around setting up sticky moral dilemmas and trying to solve them. That's dead now. Instead we have an "epic," long-story format where "gigantic evil armada wants to take over the galaxy!" Yawn.
6. Suddenly Picard is in love with Data and would do anything to save his daughter. What!? In TNG Picard didn't give two craps about Data beyond professional duty.
7. Honestly, I could go on... Characters saying "Dude" and dropping f-bombs. 80-year-old men surviving massive explosions a few meters away, bad kung-fu actions scenes, androids with Neo-like powers, idiotic science like a "sudden supernova" taking the Romulans by surprise.. hahahahahahaahah!

The positive reviews for this make me sick. Clueless suckers who have no love for the brand and are just taken in by the slick production and modern action scenes and CGI. The entire show is just nostalgia-bait for people who vaguely remember TNG and just want some "cool," "edgy" sci-fi. Sigh. Member-berry garbage. Everything Alex Kurtzman touches is festering dog doo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Picard was supposed to be a love letter to fans of The Next Generation. In reality it is a massive slap in the face to those fans and fans of Voyager. Every established character is ruined by the worst writing in Star Trek history. Icheb is brutally murdered, 7 of 9 is turned into some kind of mercinary, Bruce Maddox is brutally murdered in cold blood and even Picard himself can't escape the wrath of Alex Kurtzman's desire to distance modern Trek from old Trek and is killed of then turned into an android.

Even the Federation is portrayed as a self serving xenophobic organisation. Which is something of theme in the Kurtzman era. The whole "story" revolves around Picard tracking down an android that houses Data's memories. Which is exactly as preposterous as it sounds. If you are a Star Trek fan avoid this at all costs.

Spits on the REAL captain Picard and on Rodenberry’s legacy, what a shame. Kurtzmann trek is not Star Trek.

The Klingons are no longer the enemies, now they are the straight white males. By all means the showrunners of the star trek series will castrate them.

Kurtzmantrek is not Star Trek. It's just commercial trash made for the undemanding. This needs to be cancelled. Soon.

Second season even the writers lose the appetite and are solving problems in the episodes by letting the bridge crew use a tool which can create anything you imagine. So no more problems there. Ever.

I hate this show. It takes amazing characters from the 90s and absolutely destroys them and what star trek means. Don't watch this crap.

I wonder why Patrick Stewart agreed to be a part of this; does he owe money to someone? Is he going bankrupt or something? I really hope that they sell the entire star trek and star wars franchise to Favreau and people who made Mandalorian.

Q1: Wanna know why they made Seven of 9 a lesbian?

A1: Cause men were attracted to her. They have to ruin everything men enjoy in order to tear men down in society.

Q2: Wanna know why they made Picard emasculated, and gay?

A2: To piss the straight men off who looked up to Picard as a father figure.

This is the worst tv show I have ever seen. My gf wanted to watch this when she first heard about it before season 1. I knew it was going to be woke lecture trash. I was right.

Hollywoke is infested with this crap. Everything being produced out of Hollywoke these days is all following this same agenda platform. Women are STRONG, Men are WEAK, and that this is what progressive / inclusive equality looks like.

NOT... this is offensive like a backed up toilet. It's all over Picard. They're killing off all the male characters of the TNG legacy. Picard is a former ghost of himself. He's dead too.. don't you realize? He's just a senile apparition who follows the women around, and takes the verbal abuse like a beta cuc. We can't have a strong male character on TV these days. We gotta cut his bawls off, emancipate him, and tell him the future is female. KNOW YOUR PLACE YOU DISGUSTING PIG OF A MAN!

This show doesn't even try to hide the blatant politics. Men bad, women good. Women are super heroes, and the men must be destroyed at all costs. Send in the empowered feminists to save the day. I don't know about you, but turn this crap off, and tell all your trekkie friends that's it's woke garbage.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I will no longer watch ANYTHING Hollywoke has produced past 2010, and anything they will produce in the future. I'm officially boycotting that cesspit of diarrhea. I hate everything Hollywoke stands for. EVERYTHING. Time to cancel Hollywoke, and put this beast down.

DO NOT ENGAGE
DO NOT BEAM UP
DO TURN IT OFF

What a disaster. This show is propaganda, and it needs to be pulled off the air.

I've been taking notes on directors, writers, and actors over the years who take part in these social engineering / indoctrination productions. Everyone involved in this show is now added to my growing blacklist. Meaning, I will never watch anything with them in it ever again.

All tv shows, and movies are now being pre examined before I spend any time on them. I will be looking at cast members, reviews, and plots. One sniff of woke from people's opinions, and I will not watch it.

If it's rebooted, gender swapped, woke, feminist, racial swapped, pro woman / anti man, BLM supporting, anti LEO, anti American, pro communist, pro marxist, racist against white people, or any other form of this far left brainwashing count me out. I refuse to be bludgeoned by this S***. I will not be subjected to Hollywood's thought camp ever again. I strongly encourage all of you to stand very firm against this pernicious social cancer by doing your homework before you expose yourself, or anyone else for that matter to Hollywood's political agenda.

It takes a lot to piss me off, but destroying Star Trek is an unforgivable offense.

An amazing cast ruined by some of the worst writing I've ever seen. I've seen better writing from 70's smut films. Also how is an actual murderer allowed to be part of the crew? She murdered someone but it made her real sad so it's all good...

This just doesn't feel like Star Trek (neither does the awful Discovery). The cynic in me can't shake the feeling that the bad script writing here is not purely down to ineptitude. Sir Patrick, blink twice if you're being held hostage!

A little less rotten than stinking garbage swill is still smelly. It’s 100% the writing. The cast is clearly doing the best they can with the horrid script they are given. Kurtzchild is immature and incompetent. It’s pathetic when a fool who isn’t competent to create can only soil someone else’s work. Jar Jar Abrams held Star Trek down while Kurtzchild ripped it guts out. Star Trek has been defiled, decimated and destroyed. Expand

After E01S03... So, after two years of s**tting on ST, characters and fans they show us that almost good season of "ST: Picard" can be done? Which means they were destroying this IP on purpose! Too late, damage is done, I'm out...

Killed the franchise for me. They took everything people liked about TNG and said, how about we make everything in this show the opposite?

This show has no redeeming qualities, if you haven't watched anything prior to Enterprise, it's just generic garbage that comes out of Netflix all the time but for the people who watched Enterprise and before, this show is a disgrace. They've split the fanbase, brought few new people in and left. Garbage writers and garbage show.
