It has some cringe moments and it is quite bad. By itself it would not deserve the 8/10 I gave it. But because the first two seasons were so horribly bad (0 Points each) and this is surprisingly and refreshingly ok, I had to give it some credit. They tried to fix what was wrong with the first two seasons and I give credit for that.

Interpersonal relationships between adults who are professional and behave as the characters we remember might behave. Well written adventure with believable stakes. This season is actual Star Trek. But someone turn up the lights on the bridge.

Good, a love letter to Next Generation.
It has some minor flaw, but it feel like a "real" star trek show now.
Spaceship, crew relationships, investigations, space combat, aliens, moral dilemma, loved actors...it has all..maybe is missing some exploration .
    A very good job

Despite the fact that they cribbed off just about every SciFi franchise out there, they did a GREAT job! So much so that by the numerous epilogues in the finale' I found myself slowly golf clapping and muttering "well done, sirs" to myself as the screen faded to black after my heroes from the past 35 years took their (hopefully final) curtain call. I say "final" cuz I really can't imagine them doing a better job putting it to bed than this. I MAY wanna see cameos of some of these guys in spinoffs (Riker, Geordi & maybe Worf)..but poor Patrick Stewart. Jeez it seemed he could barely speak his lines at times..much less "act". Hey, there's no shame in this..he's 80+..and has the 20+ yrs in the X-Men franchise to his credit as well..but yeah, I hope he takes the hint and just gracefully retires..he's earned it and for STAR TREK..THIS "ending" is how I'd like to remember him. I cannot wait for the rest of the season, though I do recognize that Kurtzman will be back in charge for Season four, if he can find anyone to invest in it. So there is little to no hope in this being good beyond this season. Expand

A new beginning for the series in it's likely final season. I have only seen the first episode so far and it looks promising. There are some plot holes but somewhat smaller ones than the nonsense that made me stop watching ST Discovery. Too many plot serving coincidences but otherwise a very sold episode for my taste.

What is usually a good A plot for most of the episode is ruined by interruptions to Raffy and a B plot that is very slow and poorly acted. Nice to see the original cast back and the show being full of mostly competent actors, but the poor casting for most new cast members still stands out.

After the mediocre first season and the dumpster fire that was season 2, I am hoping this season would be better, but after episode 2 I can tell you that it is mediocre so far. The plot and the acting is forced and over the top. I will update as the episodes are released.

There are many moments where this won out for me. Shaw was fantastic and put the idiots in their place. I was so sick of the characters in modern trek acting like undisciplined children and There were numerous points in this season that directly addressed that type of behaviour. The language was also vastly improved. They didn't use as much slang from 3 centuries ago, so it felt more believable. They talked with respect and when tech jargon was used it was vague enough and yet logical enough that it worked, rather than confusing me or making me angry. Okay there were some stinkers like "subspace frequency" which was pretty aggravating, but there wasn't much. The lighting was improved. the ships do need more light, the crew spend a lot of time there, they need to have simulated daylight for their mental health and also to avoid eye strain, at the very least. They aren't short on power, they have a frickin warp engine. The crew respect each other, they support each other, they don't laugh at their crewmate's misfortune or make disturbing distasteful joke. They have solidarity and professionalism. They have light humour and good natured banter. This is what I want in Star Trek. I hope they take the positive energy from this show and take this forwards. No more discovery. no more picard season 1 and 2. no more of the frat house mentality of strange new worlds. Give us more of this.
    This is Star Trek.

    Still as bad as ever.
After loving season 1, I fought my way through season 2. Yes, fought, but I still stand.
This season was so bad that I felt sorry for the original cast of TNG. Lousy scripts with even worse stories. Kurtzman failed at full level. Well now we really have another season and it's still not Star Trek TNG. Themes from 2023 are used, which to me are not science fiction.

Yet, suddenly the showrunners started to get better: the animated series 'Lower Decks' brought modern sensibilities and humor to the tropes, and Strange New Worlds suddenly brought a new fresh interpretation to the episodic storyline. And finally, after a somewhat mixed season 1 and 2, we finally have the best Star Trek in years, and probably ever. To Lucasfilm, lessons to be learned here: respect the older fans, give them what they want and then steer a course for future adventures. There is an air of disrespect over the Star Wars front to the older fans that lead to the dwindling quality of new trilogy, with older favorites behaving the opposite of what they were before. Here, the TNG crews were given full arcs to complete their 40 years journey together, and played to perfection by casts that understood their character truly inside and out. No spoiler here, every pieces of Easter egg nostalgia are milked to the max in all aspects. Truly the best Star Trek I have seen for a very, very long time. Bravo. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nice to see the old faces, but after killing Picard off in season 1 and replacing him with a flesh-bot, this series became too much to allow me to sustain the illusion that this is actually how TNG characters ended up.

The old plot device of a son the main character only meets after he is grown (Kirk in TOS; Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, for example) is too much. Why would a middle aged doctor get pregnant unexpectedly in the supposedly medically advanced 25th century??? Pu-Lease!

All three seasons suffer from slow to develop plot lines, then unbelievably quick resolutions to the initial conflict. This should have not been a series, but rather three 2 hour movies. If the tedious garbage had been cut out, these stories might have made a respectable impression. In the current climate of streamed garbage (seems like just about everyone gets their garbage produced nowadays) this was above average but still highly flawed.
