This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To give it 2 points is way to gentle. it deserved MINUS-12 !

So far i watched all of season 1 and all of what we got so far for season 2.
Thankfully i escaped the Short Treks, because Netflix Germany wasn't stupid enough to take them AS PRESENT!
And not only did it got worse, for example the weird religious stuff that doesn't belong in Trek or to Captain Pike. (Who is neither very religious nor a "fun guy" on duty).
Or the unstable psycho-killer named Spock.
Yes, yes THAT HAPPENED! Hes a Psycho killer according to STD.

Watching episode 3 however really killed all hope, that this show will get any better. The Kling-Orcs ( Who seem to live in 8th Century, Valhalla) look worse than ever with hair.
    Nope.

"Space Hitler" now rules the "Space Gestapo" (Section 31) , without any reasoning as to how they gave her that posting.

And that stupid Ghost-friend that Tilly met, just went full bor racist, when she was expecting Lorca or "at least Kirk"( How did she even know him? Even Tilly doesn't know him!)
By describing James. T Kirk, as the "Much whiter and much much blonder" GUY.
    #TheUeberArian.

Also that fake body positivity theme, really went sour when chubby Tilly outran an entire staff of much slimmer and fitter extras, in a half marathon.
Which she should have lost, for falling back and talking with her Ghost-Friend.
And you could actually see how those extras did "run" extra slow.
But off course, afterwards she got the SJW typical, "TRIPPLE AFFIRMATION!" within 2 Minutes.
Oh yeah, that "Friend" of hers, was actually a "Spore infection".
    What the hell?

Also "off course" ;) Burnham, not only is a splendid astronomer, test-pilot, Power-Girl (For surviving 9 G for ELEVEN Minutes!) Nooo! Oh no... That wouldn't be sufficient for "the bestest person Evaaar".
    She's also a "Xeno-Antropologist"... Ja...
    **** you CBS...

Gene Roddenberry is dead. I'm watching The Orville. I gave STD a 2 for having at least great special effects and production value. Would have given another point or two if the characters were more than one dimentional and the writing was decent. Another point docked for putting the show behind a paywall.

I seriously gave this show a chance, but after few episodes I've given up. no more thank you.
No likeable characters, written by people that don't know anything about Star Trek. I have watched all Star Trek spin offs and this one is the worst. If you want to see what it should be like watch "The Orville"

Although this show acts like it is Star Trek, it changed many of the main premises of the show. It is dark, full of drama, focused on personal issues more than science fiction. If it was named anything else, I would have given it an average score. As a Star Trek show, I cannot give it more than 2. I can only remember the name of the (eh!) female "Michael" (I guess it is because this is my name, too. Damn!

While I really dislike the real "real" ST (Kirk & Spok) I loved TNG, liked DS9, accepted The Voyager and loved again: The Enterprise. And while Discovery tries to tell the story (again) what happened before Picard & Co, this has been done in great and much "on point" way by Ct. Archer. So please spend that huge budget on more seasons, less effects and mooooore story. Spare the politics agenda and give us real politics (like in TNG) and social relevance. Diversity can only be installed or "lived" while we tell diverse stories with diverse indiciduals in diverse communities. Discovery is nothing of that.

After The Orville with this seasone has elevated us into something I would not expect - a real joy of exciting TV-watching - I rewatched episode 4 of Discovery to decide, is it me ... or WTF is going on? And then: I quit the show. I don't want to be lectured, yelled et, preached, bombarded by lense flares or rush from a plothole to another. It is not me, it is you, baby. - Live shor, and definitely not prosper.

The episodes are not very memorable, unlike other Star Trek series. Discovery is a gritty, non-optimistic version of Star Trek with prequel continuity issues, e.g., the Klingon makeover is just unnecessary, holograms, or the "instant everywhere" spore drive. However, some issues will be reverted in the second season.
If you start to think about the plots for a minute, you will often find many issues that do not add up. Some episodes are so packed with "stuff" and contradictions that I didn't even care to follow the plot in a logical sense anymore. The voice-over pathos inspired by the JJ Abraham movies is just another empty element. And most of the characters are shady (especially in the first season) and unlikable. Some characters become charicatures. Michael Burnham, for example, is supposed to be the hero of the series, but since she's not the captain of the Discovery, she's not in a position to make the big decisions, yet she has all the answers and rebels without consequence (because she's always right in the end).
As for the production, the series is well done. There are annoyingly overused light glares in the first two seasons, but the costumes, masks, and visuals are very good at movie level. All in all, I wish they had invested the budget in better scripts, stories, and dialogues written by actual science fiction authors.
I recommend watching the earlier Star Trek series, The Expanse, or The Orville instead.

I am so sick and tired of Hollywood making everything about PC. Every single character is unlikable. The only one that is decent is the main character and they made her name Michael. Sigh, really? Just had to show us that gender and names don't mean anything, They are all interchangeable, right hollyweird? Other then forgettable and unlikable characters, you have horrible special effects for the space scenes. The older Star Treks looked soooo much better when there was no Computer technology. And don't get me started on the Klingons. The only good thing I would say this series has is the nice indoor set pieces. That is about it. Oh and one more thing. Isn't this show suppose to be before Enterprise? If so, why do they have so much more technology then Enterprise? Just doesn't make sense.

I'm giving it a 1/10 for trying. Even passing fans of ST will be disappointed - not only does it significantly break canon with previous shows (in a lot more ways than just the stuff with the Klingons) it doesn't FEEL like Trek. Regarding the Klingons (and some of the other species) the CGI abuse is REALLY bad. Considering the cost of these episodes, couldn't they have afforded the much better looking makeup Klingons of years past? It's especially apparent in the eyes of the characters which don't seem to line up with skin correctly.

As for the story - pretty generic fare here. The main story we've seen before in Trek (Twice in Voyager alone with the "renegade" ship in the delta quadrant and their redemption story in a later season, and of course with Tom Paris) in which the main character commits mutiny in the name of their crew mates and gets stripped of rank as a result. Hopefully it'll be resolved in a different way, but I suspect that the writers just don't care.

They clearly didn't know much about Trek's history when going into this project, and I don't expect them to magically get an education in time for next season.

My final gripe is with the pacing - one of the best things about Trek is that it's not a highly serialized show. You can miss an episode and keep watching and you won't be lost. This variant has abandoned this in favor of a more serialized approach and they use it to terrible effect. Future seasons will hopefully end this practice and return to a more traditional storytelling method.

Just 5 seconds into this thing, you know it is wrong. You see a bunch of creatures. They are supposed to be Klingon's, but they are not. They don't look like Klingons at all, not even close to what we had in TNG/DS9/Voyager (well, he just had a half klingon there in Belanna Torres, but you get it). Then they speak in Klingon ALL THE TIME. Klingon is not meant to be talked, except for some few moments like they have in the previous series, then they speak in English. And it sound so dull and monotonous, which the lack of facial expressions make even worse.
Then we have the captain and 1st officer doing a nice scene, but just looks nice, it adds NOTHING to the story. I will keep it mostly spoilers free, but a freaking 1st officer of the UFP DOESN'T KNOCK OUT HER CAPTAIN. I could go on and on and on, but you get the point. This is NOT Star Trek.
Then there is the politicial/SJW leftist agenda they are trying to shove down our throats.
The Klingons are isolationists that want to remain klingon. The very creators of the series have said they are an allegory to Trump and Trump supporters. The Federation is what the globalists are now, they want to assimilate all those that don't think like them, in this case the Klingon.
So, what we really have here, is a leftist anti-Trump propaganda, not even my words, but their creators.
Then there is the white genocide/lack of white male characters. There are two, one that barely features, and the other one, a racist admiral, when we hadn't had a racist in Starfleet in 28 seasons of TV and 10 movies (plus those new Star Wars movies pretending to be Star Trek movies), but here it is again.
Simply awful, don't watch if you want an entertaining series.

The actors try their best with the stilted and implausible script, and the VFX designers have incorporated the best starfields that you'll see outside a 2017 video game, but it is lipstick on a pig. The show has all the dismal hallmarks of design-by-tv-executive. Hardly surprising that Bryan Fuller quit.

This series is obviously very high budget, but they should have hired some decent writers instead of dumping it all into CGI. I’m a huge fan of every prior Star Trek series until this; but this one is going to need to take a seriously major turn to have any hope of winning my fandom. If it wasn’t for The Orville I would be very depressed right now.

Here is an easy way to judge a new Star Trek series: Does it make you feel inspired and excited about the future of mankind? This one is a hard No.

Remember that Star Trek is often cited by astronauts and NASA engineers as one the things that inspired them to choose their path in life. I can’t imagine this series inspiring anyone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a bit of a trekkie and have watched most of the series throughout my life, but while I may be biased, it's in favor of the shows—I kinda liked Star Trek: Enterprise. With that said, I don't think it's unreasonable to conclude that Star Trek: Discovery is a bad show in general.

Exposition is a massive problem. While they do try to cover it up by inserting it into dialogue, it's as if the core concept of the show is how to fit as much exposition into dialogue as humanly possible. The conversations between characters almost always can be summed up as two robots interacting with each other who both just learned they were programmed with the ability to cry. Furthermore, everything from exposition sloppily hidden in dialogue to stubbing of toes, has to be a massively big deal.

In the very first episode of this season, it's basically a bunch of fancy special effects and hilariously meaningless conversations: Why are we suppose to care that a captain doesn't want a president on their ship? Why is it a problem enough for a captain to continually openly protest and cause conflict where none needs to be had? Why did a captain ask the f***ing president, if she lied to a dude who was panicking, as if it was important to ask while everything is supposedly on the edge of complete disaster? Why do a bunch of officers ignore their captain when she asked for a status update but they're apparently too busy being dramatically quiet as the hangar burns down? Absolute nuttery.

It's like they're trying to make a soap opera in space with zero self-awareness. While this may seem like a knock on the actors, the fact that this is consistent with every character, tells me it's a writer/director problem. Maybe I'm wrong, but the end result is the same—it's bad.

Lack of continuity isn't always a bad thing, but one deeply important concept of the federation is that it's heavily influenced by maritime tradition. There's multiple explicit and implicit reminders of this throughout the IP's history, but Discovery seems to have forgotten that, or doesn't give a crap. It's fine if they want to build on that or even tear it down, but it's fairly obvious the writers didn't make any attempt to learn of Federation or maritime traditions to the point it'd be like a bunch of white guys making a movie about China and never actually researching Chinese culture. This isn't a big deal for ornamental things, but clear insubordination that isn't addressed because nobody knows it's insubordination both misses an opportunity to utilize already built concepts to introduce actual drama and tells us these aren't organized people with rules and regulation—they're just dudes, dudettes and duets, who we are told are smart and happen to be on a ship with some logos on it. Nobody in the show knows the difference between an ensign and the president of the Federation, nobody in the show has even a remote interest in displaying the level of professionalism even the most unprofessional international organization has.

This isn't Star Trek; it's an exercise in fitting as much exposition into dialogue as possible and drama from nothing . . . with Federation logos. I really wanted this show to be good—that's why I sat through three seasons of it—but I don't think they've learned anything based on the beginning of the fourth season. I hate this show and I hate that i've wasted so much time watching it. I hope I've saved at least one person the trouble.

In the first episode alone it already destroys the idea that it is set in the prime universe 10 years before Kirk (100 years after Archer). First, humans had regular contact with Klingons 100 years prior to the show, and then just stopped? This seems utterly unbelievable. The Klingons decloak, which the Klingons don't have that technology until 12 years after this show (they trade for it with the Romulans). Federation technology is more advanced then stuff seen in Deep Space 9, such as holographic log range communications, view screens that are windows that take up half the bridge. The colors of the specialties (red, gold, and blue) are abandoned even though used prior and after the show's settings. JJ Abrams movies did a better job convincing me it was Star Trek.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Trek Discovery: To boldly go where no fan wanted them to go. Dark, pointlessly dramatic with nonsensical plotting, this blatant cash grab fails to understand what Star Trek is supposed to be about in the first place. Not helping matters is the blatant JJTrek aesthetic - whereas normally Starfleet ships are bright and cheerfully lit, the Shenzhou prefers moody dramatic lighting and ugly lens flares. Characters, and I use that word loosely, spout exposition about themselves or their species in ways that have no bearing on the story itself.

As to the story - well, there really isn't one. The boring reimagined Klingons, here a barely disguised substitute for ISIL extremists, show how bad the costuming itself has gotten. Mush mouthed, and at one point with obvious black makeup smeared over the teeth, they've effectively taken everything interesting and fun about the Klingons and turned it into a farce.

As to the Federation - committing a war crime is not in character, at all. Blatantly violating Klingon funerary rights by putting a bomb in a sarcophagus is against the ideal of everything Star Fleet, and Star Trek was supposed to stand for to begin with. That's without touching on the whole "life sentence" absurdity. Someone forgot what a post scarcity utopia is supposed to be about.

Bottom line, Star Trek: Gothic Trappings is an angsty teenagers wet dream of Scifi, masquerading as a beloved series.

Has the emotional capability of a food replicator yet most of the episodes focus on her internal struggle. Side characters are furniture for the Star Trek setting. Storylines are uninspired, shallow and don't say anything. Instead, it tries to compensate with pretty visuals, and that is not enough.
I would give this show a 4 or maybe even a 6 if it was a standalone flick. Instead, this takes a huge dump on the legacy of Gene Roddenberry. It's way too dark, depressing, stupid, shallow and uninteresting. Burnham is not Kathryn Janeway. I cried when I thought Jonathan Archers dog was going to die. Therefore I had more of an emotional investment in Star Trek Enterprises dog that I have for the main character of this show. I used to be excited about the new star trek. Nearly all "professional reviews" were done after the pilot, whereas the user score increases per time an reveals, imho, the more accurate ranking (e. g. with "The Orville" its the same).

I'm not a Trekkie and I like it more dystopian. The one point I give for the visual effects. I don't give any more points because of giant plot holes (in E4 & 5 all it was all about how to power the spore-drive, in E6 they just jumped, no explanation how they did it, if they used the "eugenics" (sic!) way again), cheesy and unconvincing dialoges (the characters put their "heavy with meaning" voice on all the time and are always throwing worldly wisdom around), incredible sterotype characters (making the cast more diverse is great, but it doesn't help much if you just let them perform very uninspired role models).

What really set me off was in E06, when the female Admiral (forgot her name, sry) is really , really upset with Cpt. There are some references to superior Star Trek and some moments of entertainment to be had. It can be very predictable. There seems to be a preoccupation with 'diversity' to the extent that the only heterosexual White male on the show is the villain. The only White man who is not a villain is in a gay relationship with a Black man. There is a gay male alien too. The least competent female character is the White one. There is an Asian man who is too scared and incompetent to act heroically, unfortunately being Asian alone does not earn enough diversity points to warrant having a positive representation in this show. The remaining cast are female. heroic and confident, they are also Black and Asian and share homosexual moments. Maybe the future is non-White and homosexual, and while this show's representation of a future with a rigidly predictable social hierarchy may go down well on many college campuses, there is a flaw in this obsession with 'diversity'. When the Asian man was too scared to help save the ship, I kept feeling that it was more to do with his gender and sexuality than his conveniently scripted PTSD. When the main protagonist singlehandedly beats a superhuman Klingon in hand to hand combat I get the impression that this has less to do with her federation training and more to do with creating a positive representation of her gender race and ambiguous sexuality. It all comes across as inauthentic and overly contrived. To be fair, the original series claimed to be diverse, and maybe it was for its time, but it was mostly about White heterosexual men. Kirk fought Klingons too, but William Shatner looked physically stronger than other cast members on the bridge and clearly had a lot more muscle mass than Sonequa Martin-Green. At least the original show didn't make Uhura or Sulu villains or incompetent. It will take a lot less than 60 years for people to realize that the social politics behind Star Trek Discovery has caused very narrow minded and contrived stories, possibly more contrived than those produced less intentionally during the 60s show. At this rate we will have invented teleporters and warp drives before we can see past our sociopolitical tribalism to the extent that we make a truly inclusive Star Trek. I hope for a positive, inclusive and diverse future for the franchise... and also some better writing. Expand

Section 31, which is so secret no one has ever heard of them, yet they practically shout it to everyone. They even have badges proclaiming it.

    2) Complete focus on one character. This show should be called Star Trek: Burnham, because that's the only one that gets any decent screen time, and she's a total Mary Sue. Even after committing mutiny, she's still the one giving orders. Everything is about what she wants, in this last episode pike just fumbles around practically just asking Burnham if it's ok he act as a captain. There's no longer the ensemble crew focus like Trek of old. Even JJ verse knew better.

    3) The overwhelming leftist agenda. Trek has always had the socialist utopia (which is ok when you have unlimited resources and can make anything basically out of thin air), but previous trek had their politics in the background. Star Trek: Burnham beats you over the head with it. From woman with a man's name to Mary Sue needs no one to no white men in the bridge crew (until Pike, who get totally emasculated) to in your face interracial gay couple, the list goes on. This also ties into the harassment and shaming of any fan who disagrees with any of the SJW politics or just hates what they've done to Trek. This includes the typical racist/sexist/whatever -ist/phobe insults in "blame the fan" tactics that have spread to many franchises ruined by SJW politics (ie Star Wars, Ghostbusters, MCU, Dr Who).

All in all, we were sold on reviving Trek, but all we got was a bait and switch. Instead we got over the top, in your face, beat you over the head SJW propaganda that if we speak up about it, we get insulted/attacked/and even de-platformed. Lord knows what terrible things they have planned for Picard.

I give this show a 1 cause the CGI is nice.

A chaotic jumbled mess that splurges across the screen with 2 bombastic cgi heavy episodes that are barely coherent and then.... drops that to present you with what is effectively a second pilot. Then they plod along for a while with a war storyline for half a season before picking up a mirror universe storyline. This storyline is better but ends abruptly to take you back to the original storyline

I was really, REALLY...looking forward to STD. Having been a life-long fan of TOS and TNG, as well as DS9 and Voyager, but not as much a fan of Enterprise - it was "OK" I guess. I've loved all the movies, even the "bad" ones - didn't mind the JJ Abrams revamps although they do stray quite a bit from Roddenberry's vision.

Not as much as Star Trek Discovery. STD is just not Star Trek.

Not as much as Star Trek Discovery. STD is just not Star Trek. I gave the first four episodes a try and I've given it a good chance, but there's just too much that bothers me about it.

The Klingon revamp was excessive and unnecessary. The last thing I want to do is sit there for half of a show reading subtitles and listening to authentic Klingonese spoken by mouths filled with cotton balls, by aliens that look more like Orcs than Klingons. Excuse me? They ATE the captain!? Why is it that I find that hard to accept about a space faring civilization?!

Did I actually hear the F word!? And someone said Sh*t? Did the writers of this series even watch the original shows? To quote Spock, there are some "colorful metaphors" here for sure. The show isn't for kids anymore, which is sad and really unfortunate.

Gene Roddenberry's inspiring vision of the future of humanity has been completely misplaced and ignored. So far there are no social or political parallels in these stories to spark the imagination. Nothing about this show is inspiring or enjoyable. I see nothing about the future of humanity to look forward to here. No exciting worlds to explore, just starships that look more like gyroscopes.

They got the technology all wrong. Apart from the occasional beep on the bridge from TOS, including the first two notes of the intro sequence, this is all a cheap attempt at making you think you're watching Star Trek but that's about where it ends in its similarity.

Complete disregard of the prime directive, or ethics towards alien species, the enslavement of alien beings by starship captains!?! Seriously? To win a war. Unreal. Unheard of. Inexcusable.

Hologram communication even though we've never even seen this in TNG depictions of the future. Long distance mind-meld communication that coincidentally is exactly like the hologram communication except in a hazy dreamlike place with camera play. Very convenient! Cool idea yes, but it would have been a cooler idea if it was in a different timeline.

Every single character on the bridge is either an alien or some kind of augmented human. It's overdone in my opinion, and we never learn anything about them. We just get a quick flash of "oh cool she's got cybernetic implants, maybe she's like the Borg?!", or "oh cool an artificial lifeform, maybe he's like Data?!", or "oh wow what an ugly alien, what's his story!?". There's no character development at all. Saru is probably the only interesting character on the entire show but we don't get enough of him either. instead we get to learn more about the boring Starfleet cadet with curly red hair sharing a bunk with a convicted-for-life traitor that should be in the brig. Okay that's plausible. Bad writing.

Stories with worthwhile character development would be preferable over this terrible story about a war with the Klingons and fungus drive. Seriously? Spores. OK. That fits with modern physics theory about the nature of the cosmos. OK there are spores everywhere. I'll buy it. This whole idea may have been a cool plot-line for one or two episodes, but not the basis for the entire season or series.

Star Trek Discovery is an insult to the intelligence of all Star Trek fans everywhere. It all comes down to very, VERY bad writing, and the writing bar has been set very high by Star Trek fans over the years. Star Trek Discovery has lowered this bar really, REALLY low, and has disrespected the entire franchise.

I'm not sure if its the scientific rubbish uttered throughout the episodes which causes me to stop watching, the cartoonish characters, the dialogues which no reasonable human (or klignon) would say out loud or the bad acting. Yes, it's all that, but it's also one more important thing - reasonable human behavior.

The whole reason for Star Trek (and good scifi in general) was to use a "futuristic" setting in order to explore human behavior and interaction in new and sometimes impossible situations. And rayguns, those are also pretty cool. So when a woman who mutinied, struck her captain unconscious and took control of a ship without any lawful reasone is welcomed back to the fold by another captain, that is unreasonable behavior. That could never, ever happen in a military setting. A person like that would never be trustworthy enough to be given any responsibility, by anyone, no matter how helpful they could be.

This series does not live up to the spirit of Star Trek, not as a high-concept science fiction story nor as any kind of metaphor for reasonable human reaction.

Disturbingly bad. Unimaginative, soulless, bad writing, bad acting, no sense of space exploration and adventure, no science in sci-fi... Did CBS hire a bunch of middle schoolers to write this? Visually it's the same level of lazy and unimaginative: tilted camera angles, lens flares, blockbuster CGI, no soul, no sense, nothing more than a cynical ploy to make you give your money to CBS.

But what I saw in the first 2 episodes and the preview in the 2nd episode for the season, made my blood boil. It had nothing to do with Star Trek, actually went completely against it in some aspects. It didnt show a better future for us all, no, it showed conflict between humans and a new old enemy for all humans. The sets are dark and feel depressing. Even a Captain and her 1st officer, who she knew for 7 years, are in conflict with each other and act like they have just met each other yesterday. They dont trust each other, they try to seed division instead.

Klingons look like any generic alien from different other shows or even orcs in certain fantasy IPs. But not like Klingons. They are too weak to defend themselves against small female humans that are (in their own words) not soldiers, even though they are twice the size, and their Bat'leths would be virtually useless in battle because of their idiotic design. They talk like imbeciles and seem like a religious extremist race, which they were never portrayed as before.

You watch this show and you get not a single familiar feeling from the past Star Trek experiences (unless you like JJ Abrams' abominations: The lens flares and the sterile set design). It feels sterile generally. The characters are sterile and bland, weak, unlovable. The dialogue is unintelligent (even though its often supposed to be highly influenced by Vulcans) childish and not even closely worthy of Star Trek. The crew disapproves of each other and questions every order, it seems to be a normal day for them. The famous Star Trek humor is nonexistent - where should it come from with bleak characters like those? The technology in many parts is even superior to the technology in Voyager. Its supposed to play 10 years before TOS, but it feels like its playing in a totally different and far more advanced universe.

As a real and many decades long Star Trek fan, I feel massively insulted by this show.

And to top it all off, the neoliberal propaganda in this show is so thick, you can almost cut it. Star Trek was always progressive and tried to show us the way, which it achieved brilliantly, yes, but this show is pure propaganda. You can even almost smell how they try to paint a racist tag on the Klingons or how the humans all look like a gang of SJWs and talk and act like them.

I can only hope it dies a quick death and gets forgotten forever. It doesnt deserve anything else.
We need people who understand Star Trek to make a series, not people who try to exploit it for their propaganda. I have never been that disgusted by a TV show. For me its brutal rape of Star Trek.

Addendum: I just read an article where the creators of this show literally said that it aims to be propaganda against "white supremacists" and Trump voters (Klingons). Its literally a propaganda show which aim it is to divide the society even further or at least support the division it already has.
Gene and Majel would rotate in their graves so fast that they would fly to the gamma quadrant.
I can only repeat myself: I am disgusted beyond belief... I really cant believe this is happening.

Star Trek: Discovery is a sinister, twisted mockery of all the above. It's about what's worst in us. It's about conflict, war and immature behaviours. It's about corrupt Captains, about officers that mutiny without a second thought, about Starfleet officers that refer to prisoners as "trash" and "animals", about a whole crew that can completely disrespect any and all lifeforms if it suits its needs. Not even the echo of the Prime Directive can survive in this pithole of a show.

It is NOT a show about exploration. No new (or even old) worlds are explored in this series. It is NOT a show about science. Evidently, so little thought has gone into the technology and science, and so utterly ridiculous are things like the new "spore drive" that whoever had these ideas is undoubtedly scientifically illiterate.

You might think that the show could be enjoyable if you just try to go beyond the utter unpleasantness. But it is anything but. It is badly written, slow-paced, uninteresting, full of huge plot holes and unlikeable characters that no sane person could relate to.

I wish I could score it negatively because not only does this abomination not add anything to the world of Star Trek - but it subtracts from it.

Only being offered on the CBS app was a huge red flag. Then there were the delays and rewrites. The end product is total crap. The story doesn't flow, it's nothing like the Star Trek series of past and the acting of the main character is horrid.

Past Star Trek series, especially TNG, were based on great acting and thought provoking story-lines. This trash doesn't follow any of that logic. The main characters, save Michelle Yeoh as the Captain, are not likable or well acted. In fact, the main character, a woman named "Michael", is not likable at all. I found her course, arrogant and rude. The rest of the characters just seem to be acting through the lines, not caring about the scenes at all. This series is a total Hollywood BS liberal remake that stains the Star Trek franchise.

Gene Roddenberry would be ashamed of this giant piece of garbage. My only hope is that it goes off the air soon so that no one else gets subjected to it's distorted Star Trek universe.

Not because his skin color, because Avery Brooks and Cirroc Loften (sp?) are great actors. This series faced everyone checkmark on the modern anti-liberal left's progressive stack but did not preach like the creationists of old. You had a strong female first officer conflicted in her faith and the new anti-faith Federation perhaps taking the place of the fascist Cardassians who left the occupations. You had a science officer who lived life as a man and a women via her symbiote. Dr. Bashir was a character that had many facets but his character's biggest reveal was a discussion on eugenics and "designer kids." Shapeshift, male chauvanist Ferengi bar-tender with a heart of gold. Mysogist is the modern word to determine if you are a moron. If you use it in reference to anything today in the west from an institutionailzed aspect unironically then you are truly a moron.

The new Star Trek throws away all good discussion on social issues and states with no subtlety...

"If you are right of Lenin then you are evil, racist, sexist and any other new douche-words the anti-liberal left progressives make up."

Would have been nice to not be preached to, but division is all that LA, San Francisco and New York has left. No one wants their **** politics, especially in entertainment or elected office nowadays but they are going to push it until they incite and actual backlash that will cause loss of life on a massive level.

Too bad though, the main actress was good on walking dead and a deep character. We know she can act better if the writing was better and not one-dimensional hatred justification against those you don't politically agree with.

Drastic redesigns to the Klingons, Starfleet aesthetics and the general atmosphere of this universe has failed to revive Star Trek and instead propels everything towards being a heavily politized and moralizing show.
Instead of highly developed humans (and others) having to find solutions to tough situations, we have overly dramatic and inconsistent characters that force their way through every situation without concern for the consequences. Where the likes of Voyager and TNG explained multiple sides to an issue, Discovery instead tells you the "right choice" and if you don't agree, you're probably a bigot.
It's a terrible way to treat your viewers and an absolutely horrendous way to make a show, in short it's a disaster.

The space battles..... the choice of camera shots, and lack of context leave them bereft of any meaning. The writing.....incoherent garbage you'd expect to find in a b-movie. The characters..... oh my,.....

On second thoughts, screw this review; Discovery is so worthless it's not even worth expressing what it did wrong. Everything!

Another example of how critics have no clue what is good. One critic commented on today's pessimistic political landscape. We don't want the real world to invade our programs. It pretends it's the first to be diverse yadda yadda, which shows the people involved are clueless about the history of Star Trek. But all you have to do is watch it and witness the endless string of contradictions with Star Trek canon to realize the people involved are ignorant of Trek. The stories make Sharknado look plausible; they are driven by the desire to deliver crazy twists, as another person said, that would make M. Night Shyamalan blush. The characters are inconsistent in their behavior and mostly unlikeable. Not only is the show inconsistent with Star Trek; it is at times internally inconsistent with itself. Someone has posted a revealing video of clips from past Star Trek series and Discovery, which show how Discovery violates canon again and again and again. Add to this disrespect for Trek history and unbelievable behavior (by a crew made up of almost entirely unlikeable characters who snipe at each other like junior high schoolers), the visuals, and you have a catastrophe. The visuals and tech look 100 years advanced beyond Voyager. I haven't even mentioned the Klingons yet, who look like giant crustacean globs. The final episode of the season actually started off well, as they'd made some corrections, but the way the war with the Klingons ended was unbelievably stupid and anti-climactic, and then came the introduction of the so-called USS Enterprise that looks all wrong. Ridiculous and Awful. The original NCC-1701 model was simple enough that plenty of details could have been added to it without at all contradicting the original design. But they chose instead to change the color, add disco flair to the nacelle supports, totally change the rear, change the entire profile. The notion that NCC-1701 would look like this between the two Star Trek pilots makes no sense. It is not even close to a transitional look between the first pilot look and the somewhat altered second pilot look. I have canceled CBS All Access.

The way to save this show is by revealing that it took place in some alternative universe and then for season two somehow shoving the crew (or at least Burnham) into the true original TOS universe with the real TOS look and no holograms or other beyond-Voyager-level jazz. CBS insists people won't watch a new show with the original TOS look. Meanwhile people DO watch TOS and all the fan series with the TOS look and, of course, the USS Callister episode of Black Mirror was so popular the internet almost exploded after it aired. People do still buy into the bright colors, short dresses, hairdos, and strong jawed captains. But CBS was too daft to notice and instead plunged into the incoherent mess that is Discovery, a show that is not about character, not about thoughtful ideas provoked by new and unique discoveries, but instead is all about forced unbelievable twists.

Big Fan of TNG here. What happened to being rational, humanist and cooperative?
This show feels like some guys wrote the screenplays, who were only loving the action parts of star trek.
All the philosphy of exploring and becoming better in the process has totally failed in that series. JJ Abrams is overrated and should just quit destroying good Sci-Fi Universes. Im not nostalgic, but

There's a lot of issues with discovery but this was at least watchable and quite enjoyable at times.

It's late; I should be asleep, but what I just watched is SO BAD I could not go to bed without issuing a warning: this show is so terrible that I am seriously concerned it might've given me cancer. I only watched 2 episodes tho, so maybe I'll be alright.

This is not Star Trek at all. This is made for the masses of mediocre, stupid people. Maybe I'll come back tomorrow to elaborate, but

Whoever is responsible for this should be ashamed. Better yet, they should remove this show from TV / streaming, ask people who recorded this horrible travesty to delete it, have all physical copies destroyed, and then apologize.

This is not Star Trek, if you want Star Trek, watch The Orville. There are numerous continuity errors, prime directive violations, technological misplacement, and it focus on one character instead of the entire crew.

I was madly disappointed by the show. I regard it as highly disrespectful to the name of Star Trek. As the episodes progressed I felt the cringe factor increase equally as much as my sadness did. I kinda wanted to not watch it, but as I love sci-fi, I continued, but not without sustaining a fair amount of mental anguish.

This show feels nothing like a Star Trek series and it is painfully dismissive of established canon. There are few likeable characters and the acting is a mixed bag. Nobody acts like they're a part of the same society as the original series despite there being such a short time between these shows. The klingons have been modified both visually and culturally, ignoring even more established canon. The effects are good, but that doesn't make up for the entire product defeating on a half century of (mostly) good sci fi. The optimistic moral center of Star Trek has been replaced by nonsense and sex appeal. Expand

It honestly doesn't feel like Star Trek at all. It feels like a generic sci-fi. Nothing about it feels real, from the ship, to space, to even the CGI creatures. It has a very modern feel to everything but it's just soulless. . The Klingons look ridiculous, I won't even go into detail about them you can see for yourselves.

Seriously don't even waste your time watching this. If you do, and if you are a real Star Trek fan, you will just be very disappointed. It blows my mind how people can slap a popular name on something so generic and try to pass it off as a good show. I was hoping for a great new Star Trek show to sink my teeth into, but I guess I will have to wait much longer, and that's assuming this show doesn't kill Star Trek on TV completely.

Discovery feels like it’s adrift between the adventure-of-the-week format of its network-TV predecessors and the kind of complex serial favored by cable and streaming.

Star Trek: Discovery feels like it's just finding its footing. On the promising side, Doug Jones is already a standout as Science Officer Lt. Saru, who's from an alien race called Kelpiens. And James Frain is perfectly cast as Sarek, the Vulcan who veteran "Trek" fans know as the father of Spock. The relationship between Burnham and Sarek is one of the more intriguing aspects of Star Trek: Discovery.

Happily Star Trek: Discovery strikes a balance between what diehard Trekkies love about Roddenberry’s universe and what J.J. Abrams injected into its theatrical resurrection. Ethical dilemmas and a clash between cultures and traditions comprise the fore of the narrative, but the hours don’t skimp on phaser blasts and broadcast-appropriate carnage.
