Somebody Somewhere has a knack for spiky sentimentality that goes for the jugular. It is impressively opposed to the idea of showiness or razzmatazz, but even in its quietest moments, it is dazzling stuff.
-
This latest batch of beauty confirms the series as one of the decade’s finest, thanks to its delightful ensemble cast and a knack for fleshing out life’s minutiae, with gravity and irreverence in equal measure.
-
For all its emotional depth, Bos and Thureen’s series has gotten funnier this time around too. Grief, fear of rejection, and uncertainty are still present in these people’s lives, but there’s more to laugh about, especially between Sam and Joel. ... Sublime, small comedy.
-
It feels improvised, as if this conversation over a bottle of Pinot Grigio would play out exactly like this even if we weren’t watching. This is the beauty of Somebody Somewhere. ... Where Succession and Barry can reach almost Shakespearean heights of intensity with their big, dramatic twists and metaphorical as well as literal violence, Somebody Somewhere is deliberately small and focused. ... Somebody Somewhere has a way of reminding you to feel grateful for every molecule of oxygen that’s still filling your lungs.

Somebody Somewhere has that settled-in feeling that make good shows become terrific shows in their second seasons. Some characters may be gone, but the show’s comedic core and its heart are still there, and we’ll follow its slice-of-Midwest-life vibe for the entire season.
-
Somebody Somewhere continues to deliver laughter and tears with little stylistic or tonal difference from the last time around. ... Everett and Hiller’s good-humored chemistry (perhaps the show’s raison d’etre) remains unmatched.
