While it is a shame that Erlich is gone the show is still pretty funny and maintains most of the energy that it had before tj miller left the show. Worth a watch.

Episode 1 was so bad it looked like an episode of Big Bang Theory. Or is this to be taken as an ironic metaphor of Facebook: Mediocrity and then rot takes over at the end?

Gulpfest with no bite to it.

TJ was an a-hole but at least he was facking FUNNY. It is kinda sad that Jin yang is the best part of the show now... Jared is overplayed and feels forced as a character. The Gavin arc is lame and completely uninteresting. Thomas Middleditch does his best but with such a hacky script there is nothing to salvage. It really is sad how a good unique show

It really is sad how a good unique show like this could could end up like this way. Yes, everyone who is not indulging in wishful delusions can guess this will be the last season by watching this wet firework excuse of a premiere.

I guess everybody will move on to better projects next year but it still does not make the disappointment OK. WHY MIKE JUDGE WHY. YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW THIS IS 1st GRADE MANURE AND WE WILL WATCH IT OUT OF FIDELITY, BUT YOU RICH HOLLYWOOD **** RUINED WHAT WAS GOING TO BE A CULT CLASSIC WITH YOUR INANE INFANTILE BEEFS.

The NEW stuff they've put in is REALLY on the "not" funny side of being stupid, as opposed to it being stupid, but in a funny way, there's a distinct difference. I'm not going to blame the decline on no erlich though, the show is just bad all the way around, rating this 2 is probably a reach to be honest, not sure why/how people are giving this over an 5, no way. I really tried to like it, but it looks like along with TJ Miller, they also lost all the good ideas. New season is so boring, they can't succeed since then the show ends, so they do this weird circlejerk thing which was fine until a point, but now theres no room left. Most of the "supposed to be funny" situations are just unfunny and sad. Like they are trying too hard now and failing.I really tried to like it, but it looks like along with TJ Miller, they also lost all the good ideas. Silicon Valley continues to satisfy year after year. I don't know of ANY other tv series that achieves this level of quality, of hilarity year in and year out. It's like candy for my soul. It gets a 9 instead of a 10 because its usual 10-episode run was only 8 this year.

If you like this show, DO NOT WATCH season 5. I stopped watching this after episode two. Screenwriters of this season should be fired and added to sort of «black list».

From 8.5 (last 4 seasons) to 6.5. Epic fail.

As a big fan of the first four seasons of Silicon Valley, I'm going to be scratching my head over what the heck happened in season 5. Season 5 of Silicon Valley is like season 4 of Community, or season 8 of The Office, and so on. But with those two shows, at least the abrupt drop in quality makes sense when you take into account behind-the-scenes stuff, like how Dan Harmon was fired from Community and when Steve Carrell left The Office, but I'm not sure what happened here, unless TJ Miller really brought as much to Silicon Valley as Carrell or Harmon brought to The Office and Community, which I highly doubt.

Personally, I theorize that this season's abrupt dip in quality has something to do with the basic set up of the characters up until this point. Before, Richard and his posse are always at the bottom, with bigger companies all over the place kicking the crap out of them, while everything is just constantly going wrong for them at every corner, and everything they encounter threatens to end their company before they can even begin to fully realize their potential, and much of the humor is derived from how all of the characters react to their unfortunate circumstances, and the creative processes they all go through to combat each new obstacle they need to overcome. But now, they're successful. They've got a team of programmers and engineers, big investors, and nothing is as threatening to them as it was before, which means this has turned into more of a basic workplace comedy, and the humor of this show just doesn't gel with workplace antics.

At least, that's what I think went wrong here for now. There could be other behind the scenes stuff I don't yet know about that explains why the writing seems to have dropped off so dramatically, but there's just no way of telling, yet.

While it longer feels fresh or hilarious, Season 5 of "Silicon Valley" progresses the plot sensibly while remaining interesting about its observations in the technology world.

First two episodes were a bit of a rocky start, but this third episode is reminiscent of Silicon Valley at its peak. Can't wait to see where this season goes.

I have been following Silicon Valley for quite some time. It has never been a exceptional show but keeps you laughing for its sort burst of episodes. Also I like the characters. Season 5 gained pace in the later episodes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is not the show it used to be. The setup, cast and style of humor as **** almost always will hits the fan. But there is rarely any genuine laugh out loud moments anymore because it is all sort of done and dusted.

But I really do enjoy the show and even if the bar is where it is now for the show, I will keep watcing as many episodes are churned out (tho i hope it ends with a season 7 finale; seems a good place to stop, right?). I will the show credit for innovating smartly on certain areas which may have lacked content going to take current political in and aorund silicon valley to spice things up.

On the overall, there was nothing really memorable except this Five things in honor it being season 5:
    1) Richard 'Dick' Jenkins barfing, pooping and crashing throguh a glass wall as flight response to panic.
    2) Jared being insecure about his looks and getting plastic surgery
    3) Russ Hahnemann's return on a beach combing for a pendrive.
    4) Monice being official member of Team Pied Piper chases down the Richard's new assistant, who has broken and chipped away into nothing but Richard's assistant by Jared with a funny walk and hilarious threat.
    5) The Season finale conclusion which gets preceded ridiculous tripartite **** you over' between Hendricks, Belson and Breamhall & co.

great season, T.J. Maybe not the most dramatic season, but possibly the funniest one. Loving every minute of it.

It's still my favorite comedy tv-show of all time. Fifth season is as funny as previous seasons. Best.

Erlich’s absence lets Richard’s emerging dark side become more of a central focus for the series. For years, Silicon Valley seemed almost afraid of having Richard succeed, throwing narrative roadblocks in his way to stop him from becoming an all-powerful CEO and to perhaps maintain dramatic tension. The blundering Erlich helped the series in that regard, but now Richard gets to be his own worst enemy. If Season 5’s first episode is any indication, Silicon Valley will be more exciting--and painfully realistic--this way.

The side characters remain terrific--my favorite joke in the premiere may be Laurie’s utter bafflement at Monica complimenting her for the birth of her fourth child only hours earlier--and the show still has a gift for constructing comic set pieces like the black site-style office Richard tried to show the guys in the premiere’s opening. But the series was already reaching the point of diminishing returns last year, and appears to have arrived there now.

A lot of what’s happening in Season 5 feels like old hat.
