As a man in his late twenties I’ll admit I’m not exactly in the target audience for this show but generally the very best comedy and drama series can be universally, if not enjoyed, at least appreciated by people of different ages or genders. When it comes to Sex and the City however I find the majority of the attempts at humour fall flat whilst the show is just not well written enough toAs a man in his late twenties I’ll admit I’m not exactly in the target audience for this show but generally the very best comedy and drama series can be universally, if not enjoyed, at least appreciated by people of different ages or genders. I’ll pass on this one thanks. Expand

A classic! This first season it's VERY VERY VERY SEXY. Just what it was supposed to be. It fails sometimes for being TOO material and superficial, and the generalizations about sexual men's and women's behaviour may be offensive sometimes. But, overall, a funny show to watch while you're bored.

Parker is appealing as always, but watching the show is an empty diversion—like scanning a gossip column about people who don't exist.

Funny fabulousness ... [with] a few too many talk-to-the-camera moments.

What may be a reasonable, even sexy premise comes out flat, bitter and flaccid...Neither director nor cast can do anything much with Star's awkward script, which is choppy and burdened with impossible dialogue. But worst is that the smarty mood leaps beyond cynical, and his characters are too disagreeable to make funny. [3 June 1998]
