It is far weaker than the “Secret Invasion” comics, a bit incoherent and I asked myself if this is a character assassination for Nick Fury (or downgrade?). Before he was an awesome bad ass. He was always prepared, rarely outsmarted, had backup plans for nearly everything and information's were his super weapon. Here they use again the aged hero that is a shell of his former self trope. He was always prepared, rarely outsmarted, had backup plans for nearly everything and information's were his super weapon. Here they use again the aged hero that is a shell of his former self trope. The former MCU Nick Fury and his comics counterpart I would never want as enemy like I would not oppose Thrawn, Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes or Hercules Poirot to name a few. This one here in the show is neither intimidating or capable enough to reach that level (Wont spoil what they did to him in the show). Now to the “Secret Invasion” comics. These were awesome. The super heroes were unaware of it until Electra (from Daredevil) died and turned into a Skrull. Neither the telepathic heroes, nor the spider sense or even Wolverines enhanced senses could tell something was off. You did not know who was a Skrull posing as hero and what their agenda was. They used this for a fantastically good journey. Here it is neither that serious or intense that it created the dread and suspicion of the source material. To be fair in some scene they archive it but use it sparingly just as gimmick. I like the actors and would praise their performance. Samual Jackson, a strong and awesome Ben Mendelson, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Emilia Clarke are just too good. However there is a bit overacting like the museum scene and the story is a bit incoherent. If there were reshoots and heavy editing it would explain a bit. Especially Emilia Clarke’s characters motivations and actions are puzzling to understand. The special effects are fine for me. I stopped watching after episode 3 as it was not interesting enough (Had to force me to watch it even). Overall I think it is not awful except what they did to Nick Fury to be rated trash. However it is not good enough either for a higher rating. A 5/10 seems fair. Expand

Because Marvel takes so long to tell a story I often feel like we only get part of a story. While they do tell the audience about these gaps in time, they never show them. This leaves the audience filling in the details but raises more questions. From the acting it also leaves the actors with questions about how to play the role also. I can't imagine being someone who hasn't seen all the marvel properties and watching this. Maybe that would make the experience better. For me it was a challenge to justify the actions of these characters (and I'm trying to ignore how different this is from the comic book run in both plot and theme).
If the show improves as the series continues, I will adjust this score. However, for now the lack of convincing motivations, emotionless acting, dropped plot lines, and unconvincing objectives make this the worst marvel offering.

It's nice for a change for Marvel to have a more mature show, but at least the first episode feels uninspired, almost copying what The Falcon and the Winter Soldier did. I hope the rest of the series tries new things.

Im predicting that the twist near the end of the series is that the "rebel" Skrulls have experienced of racism from humans and how that hurt their feelings and this is just them fighting back. Going to be just like the Dr Who story from 2015, The Zygon Invasion.

This show is mid despite great acting and production given that it's a superhero show with no powers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This series shows sparks of greatness -- there are some really good parts -- but they all fizzle out before it gets really good. Colmans character is so incredibly awesome. SLJ's Nick Fury--awesome. Unfortunately, the nature of shapeshifting creates far too many plot holes. It's absolutely poor development to give a shapeshifter unlimited shapeshifting ability but give the audience no way to know how a Skrull knows a Skrull is a Skrull. Secret Invasion season 1 screenwriting feels first draft kind of quality. Before going to production, the script needs to be fine-tuned.

    !!!Spoilers!!!

Colonel Roades as a Skrull, but no Ironman suit is incredibly boring.

Unimpressed. This is the first MCU show that I would not leave a green score for (yes, you read that right). While I didn’t hate the whole thing, the series was overall a massive letdown.

Despite featuring moments of great tension and character exchanges, Secret Invasion ends up being an unexpected mess the further the narrative progresses. Each unexplained detail is worse than the last, culminating in the final episode being one of the worst MCU narrative decisions made so far.

Marked by lethargic performances, flat combat and great gobs of exposition, it comes across as an exercise in genre regurgitation—and far from the spark that will recharge Marvel’s battery.

Marvel buffs will be able to collect their fair share of Easter eggs, but this one can be enjoyed by a PG-13-suitable crowd that prefers action (this one is pretty violent, though) with a relatable plot that doesn’t require you to watch all in the MCU canon to understand what is going on. In supporting roles, Kingsley Ben-Adir stands out in this promising leap forward for Phase 5 of the MCU.
