Everything has the shape and feel of the real thing, but very rarely the substance that makes either one satisfying. At a brisk six, half-hour episodes, it’s painless, and sometimes genuinely enjoyable. Just not as enjoyable as the schoolchildren, or anyone in Schmigadoon, seem to find everything around them. The first two episodes are joyful and exciting. The music isn’t anything special, but it’s a winning concept and cast.

Weirdly, for a show with such an awesome cast and with so much artistry, I'm not exactly sure who the target audience is for this. If you fall into the the small nugget of people who this appeals to, it's excellent. It embraces the absurdity of the situation, demonstrated perfectly by the "corn pudding" song, a hilarious romp, but also shows lots of heart and charm
If it falls down anywhere, it perhaps makes the leads a little too accepting of the situation, but in the end it may be the better choice so that the show can actually be charming and not nightmarish. 4 episodes in it's a great show, and worth giving a chance for fans of pushing daisies or similar abserdist comedy.… Expand
