Better than God-awful season 5 that was maybe a lingering long COVID side effect. However, you can't escape the feeling that it is committing the same mistakes as the Simpson's, mistaking addressing the "topic of the day" with arcane pop facts and reference as a way to stay "fresh" and relevant. It feels desperate. It is at its best when it goes back to a more sedate pace, examining the relationship between its characters. Going into a bit more lyrical and irrational fantasy world than trying to build convoluated and trivial musings on fate (Fortune cookie episode) or self-improvement neuroses (night-families)
The new Beavis and Butthead feels so much more refreshing and accurate and ....calming in comparison. Almost a Zen experience. I'm not even kidding.

Episode one is a split with the females doing most of the cool stuff, while the males are in dystopian, depressing, and boring activities. All the "professional" reviewers giving this glowing reviews should stop trying to shill so hard. It is too obvious. This is only one bad episode, but being the premier and after all the missteps of last season, the shades of intersectional feminism (though no Mary Sues barely - since space mom forgets she is armed) could be a sign of things to come. If they make Rick the ultimate bad dad where Beths have to save everyone from him, Harmon will have to go into hiding. Expand

Boasting a strong season opener and a delightfully familiar follow-up, if the season retains the style I’ve seen thus far—balancing both serialized arcs and classic sci-fi craziness—this will be high up as one of the best seasons Rick and Morty has offered to date.

Luckily, Season 6 is off to a Ricktastic start. Only two episodes were available for critics to review, but they were both delightful. ... The animation hasn’t dipped in quality in the slightest.

Season 6 so far is full of references to earlier episodes that will land better if you’re the kind of obsessive fan that’s watched all the previous seasons multiple times (to say nothing of references to Raiders of the Lost Ark, or The Usual Suspects). But there are also some entertaining new riffs that may well enter the annals of the show’s most popular bits.
