Once again Rick and Morty brings a barrage of unexpected, creative and really funny jokes.

RIck's misanthropy has always been one of the show's main components, but this time it was overdone and got tiresome after a while.

Still, there are some real gems in this, including "Rattlestar RIcklactica," and "Never Ricking Morty." This does have my favorite season finale of the show.

Much like last season, Summer (voiced by Spencer Grammer) is underutilized.

Overall, the show may be showing its age a little, but there is still a great mix of jokes you won't find anywhere

Season 4 is where it started to go downhill and unfortunately season 5 is even worse.

Very dissappointed. It was still entertaining, and it doesn't deserve a pan trolling score, but this was just a huge step down from the first 3 seasons

Despite the inconsistent scheduling, that involved a two year wait following season three and a six-month gap between the two halves of this season, but into it’s fourth season Rick & Morty remains one of the most original, bizarre and darkly humorous shows to ever hit the screen.

Lame in every aspect honestly. Just nothing special anymore the first 2 seasons were great but the 4th was pretty bad
Especially the ending made me dislike the series now. I also don't think season 5 will be better so consider this series to be dead actually

sexual ≠ funny, yet this is the whole premise of season 4. its going the Simpsons route.

Rick & Morty is a very funny and sometimes dark animated SF comedy series. Justin Roiland is an extremely talented individual and he's the heart of this show. Episodes are generally self-contained, but there are references to other episodes and there is an interesting overarching story. I'm really curious to see where it goes.

    Worst season so far.
    I enjoyed one episode : " Rattlestar Ricklactica ". it's a great episode.
***Review updated 6 month later**** with the release of episodes 6-7-8-9-10.
Second half of the season is much better that the first half:
Very funny, crazy, with lots of sci-fi references.
The show seems back on his tracks in a good way.

Don’t understand the hate Ok episode 4 is probably the worst of the whole series but episodes 3 and 6 are among the best in the series . The worst seasons though for sure

If you are able to watch shows that decline in writing quality and character depth without disliking them then you might get some enjoyment out of season 4 of Rick and Morty.

its a true and absolute shame that season 4 is flat and bland, the characters don't seem to have the same level of thought of depth they used too, in fact the whole season plays out like a fan-fiction written by... well.. a Fan, whenever there is a chance to insert a 4th wall breaking joke they take it, whenever they can subvert your expectations as a fan of the show they take it, whether it is good or not and and most often it is clearly not, the writers seem to congratulates themselves by writing it into the episode, as if just doing something different for the sake of doing is brave or meaningful which it is not, good writing is! This season is simply not entertaining for me which is sad because I really enjoyed the first 2.5 seasons of this show. Every episode of this season has a good plot premise however the execution is very very poor there is no tact or thought into the writing, sadly the greatest decline is character development most shows have the opposite where characters slowly become more complex and multifaceted, in season 4 characters are bland and flat any multidimensional aspects of the characters are pretty much gone and the characters will often just comment on what they are doing, instead of expression motivations but hey! that's subverting expectations right! that must be good writing right? .... just like "the Last Jedi" was a good film.

I cannot in good faith recommend this Season if you are a fan of Rick and Morty, I didn't laugh a single time (okay I did laugh once because I misunderstood the joke, the actual joke they told wasn't funny.) its sad to see the characters sunk so low, Rick does what Rick does now because the writers said so, there is no depth to his character, Jerry is a punching bag to every joke and unlike the first season or second season he never gets a moment to shine, Morty just remarks on whatever he is doing "hey I'm doing a little morty dance now!"ect ect. if you can find some enjoyment out of this season then I envy you because I simply cannot. It is a sharp decline and only good writing can save the show but that won't happen and we all know that! perhaps that is the biggest joke of Rick and Morty is that now it is the joke!.

    cheers - H.O.

Thank God for Rick and Morty. A fluffy cloud of levity, wit and self-deprecation dashing above the self-righteous, ponderous woke blobs of nonsense (Watchmen, Handmaid...) in which so-called peak TV is now englued.
Ep02 and 08 are really intelligent takes on the human condition.

This seasons great gone back to being more serialised but with the character development still in place, characters are much more well-rounded.

Feels like Dan left or is self sabotaging. I can only hope this entire season is a call back joke to the gas leak year. The writing feels rushed and uninspired. The flashy animation can't make up for poor writing and underwhelming story lines.

I can defend season 3, but season 4 is just awful. The show seems completely different from the first 3 seasons and it's actually difficult to get through each episode. It's a real shame considering how good it used to be.

Rick and Morty season 4 is just disappointing. The storylines are overreaching and rushed. The plots just seem random and confusing.. it's all missing the depth. Not worth watching.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This season lacks self-restraint. "Onanistic" comes to mind. It is the TV equivalent of having to scroll and scroll and scroll a blog post before reaching a recipe. It is still a trove of absurdist wisdom; at its best, the humor is still shocking and incisive. But the jokes are fewer, replaced, it would seem, by gratuitous violence. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching wasp-Rick eat Mr. Goldenfold alive as much as the next guy. But if I wanted gratuitous violence I'd be watching early Game of Thrones...unfortunately, I wanted incendiary humor. Expand

In ways both refreshing and disappointing, it is indeed a throwback to a simpler Rick and Morty, with lower emotional stakes, some of the show’s signature inventiveness, and more straightforward sci-fi adventure. “Edge of Tomorty” isn’t the funniest the show has ever been, and it is far from the most meaningful. But the episode does boast a wildly profane imagination, gruesome visual contortions, and the self-awareness needed to poke fun at its own slightness.

The season 4 premiere was outrageously confident, and generally outrageous. Rick and Morty is angrily funny, powered by Rick’s galactic cynicism and a tendency toward hysterical navel-gazing criticism. The self-awareness would be annoying, if there wasn’t so much self there.

“Edge of Tomorty” feel[s] like a way of, like Morty, the show asserting that it has its own say in where it gets to go and how long it takes to get there.
