While the tweaked character designs are fun, their jerky movements are not. Even if Rick and Morty: The Anime ultimately veers toward inexplicable more than enjoyable, though, it’s never boring – which you can’t always say about Rick and Morty itself. If nothing else, the anime will go down as an impressive exercise.

In the two episodes provided to press, a flat English dub fails to elevate stilted writing and inconsistent jokes. (The series will feature English and Japanese dubs, though only the former was available for review.) The animation, meanwhile, offers pretty compositions but often lacks a sense of weight and depth. .... Quick cuts turn a handful of ridiculous non sequiturs into an emotionally resonant collection of vignettes.

Maybe all the convoluted sci-fi rigamarole in "Rick and Morty: The Anime" will pay off in a big way. But I can only review what I've seen, and what I've seen is meh.
