Now comes the series, which has done... quite well. Right off the bat, I have to commend the animation. Going to live-action probably wouldn't be a good idea after the botched movies, but I remember one Resident Evil movie in particular bearing the subtitle Damnation and I quite liked it. So I'm glad they opted for CGI here too and it looks really impressive! Maybe I'm exaggerating, but for me it's absolutely gorgeous. Appearance-wise, the series absolutely rocks. Where it gets worse though, unfortunately, is the story itself. It's good, but it just doesn't let up. At first it was still going and I thought it was just going to be an introduction, but it every episode is a ton of action and like don't get me wrong. It's a wonderful show so at least you can say you won't be bored. For me though, it's too much for Resident Evil and every now and then I think they could have slowed it down and thrown in some of that horror feel. Here you just keep watching the action and there is hardly any stopping. For me, the action pace is the biggest minus of the series. What else I don't quite understand is why they made it into a series. There are 4 episodes in total and each one lasts less than half an hour. It could have easily been a movie... Closed. Bottom line. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an above average series for me, and I would probably only recommend it to fans of the series. Expand

The animation varies from excellent, to complete garbage. The dialogue is mostly childish and is strictly there to pad out the run time. Many of the details are comical such as being 12 km from the coast of a country is just STARTING to enter their territory, or a lot of packing tape on door handle of an apartment being proof no one had been inside (as if tape cannot easily be replaced). This was clearly not written by anyone that cares about anything other than sounding cool. I wanted to stop watching after episode 2 but pushed through the other two so that I could leave a comprehensive review.

This is a 4/10 unless you are knowledgeable about Resident Evil (which the people behind this were clearly not), then it would be in the 1-2/10 range due to all the broken continuity.

At least it portrays Communist America scathingly.

I get that they were not going to make a series about the Racoon city incident because of the newly remade games, and I am glad that they were willing to go out of their comfort zone and create a new story, but it didn't went very well in my opinion. The story is one of the worse when it comes to RE games but it is surely better than the live-action movies. The 4 episode runtime is barely enough for the story to fit all its components into place. I think that one more episode would surely help the otherwise lackluster pacing full of flashbacks and the breakneck tempo. I do have to say that the animation looked good. I doubt that there will be a season 2, but if it comes out sometime in the future I will probably watch it to see if they can improve on the miss-steps, not mistakes, of this season 1. I believe somewhere deep there is a potential for a good story. If you have an hour and something of free time and you are a RE fan, I would consider watching it, but if you decide to skip it you won't miss anything special. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am shocked by how dumb the plot is. Let’s recap our villian(s) plan. They were gonna go to China and retrieve a chip with all the data revealing the U.S government conspiracy. Simple. Then why did they have to blow up a submarine. And why was Shen May’s brother in China. We’re they spies? If so why couldn’t she just get on a flight or have the chip mailed to her?

So that plan doesn’t work cause of our boy Leon, who is quick to kill people just cause of simple differences. I get he’s this morally good person but they do not explain why Leon is quick to fight Jason at the end.

Jason decides out of nowhere that he’ll expose the conspiracy by just showing himself as a monster. So why couldn’t he just have done that, like whenever. Just go to a reporter and show them, you know like Claire or something (who is useless btw). And I don’t recall Jason saying he was gonna kill anyone after revealing himself so I don’t understand why Leon was quick to mercilessly kill him. Yes I get that Jason was a bit insane because he for no reason chooses to kill Shen May cause she wanted to stick to the old plan? But Jason literally asks Leon, why is he trying to stop him and Leon doesn’t answer (self aware writers maybe).

Overall this show was bonkers and every character made confusing decisions and their motivations were all over the place.

Infinite Darkness is good, but nothing special. If you are looking for some more content in the series as a fan, you most likely will enjoy it.

This was a totally unnecessary addition to the Resident Evil franchise. Indeed, some characters are almost copies of characters that appeared in Degeneration. For example Defense Secretary Wilson in Infinite Darkness is almost copy of Senator Ron Davis. It added nothing of consequence to the lore. The worst part was that Leon acted out of character towards Claire and towards some other characters as well. Expand
