Woke **** mixed with netflix's high school musical agenda. Not RE genre, not even a good script, wrong actors (Wesker was white for God's sake FOR A REASON).

I don't think I can continue past episode 1. Two teenagers open the front door of a top corporate research facility after hours, by playing a recording from a phone of a guy saying his name? The writing is so stupid it's offensive. Playing through the RE2 Remake right now for the first time, and the writing and plot development is leagues better in a video game.

Production value and acting are relatively good, but the screenplay could be WAY better. The tone is funny and feels perfect for a Resident Evil series (It seems like a satire. There's a scene where people are doing goat yoga), but the way things unfold is so artificial, so fake... it's detrimental to the whole project.

In a way, the project is like Umbrella's monsters: it's a chaotic mess. It's also like salted pop corn or chips; you can't stop consuming them, but it is still junk. It's another project that could have been rejected in order to fund a new season of Chambers, or The OA...

Be cautious about the hate though... Some people will hate the show for political reasons.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

As a huge RE fan for my entire life, I really did expect to dislike this. But I absolutely enjoyed it! It's not a faithful adaptation of the games, it's only loosely connected (since it takes place 20 years later), but it still felt like it took place in the RE universe. This series never intended to be a replica or copy of the video games, it always intended to be its own standalone thing, based on the game universe. So I'm not sure why everyone's so angry about that. If you wanted a series that is incredibly similar to the games then that's fine, but rather than reviewing this series for what it's NOT, why not review it for what it IS?

To me, this was a fun series, with great acting, an interesting story, and awesome set pieces. I really enjoyed seeing the two timelines of the story, it was exciting to watch the past of these characters, as they fought through the future apocalypse. The zombies were cool, but most importantly, the monsters were INCREDIBLE! There were so many huge monstrous zombie animals, and all of them were super unique, and REALLY felt like boss battles from the RE games. I loved seeing them all, they looked beyond awesome.

The characters were flawed, and not perfect, but I liked that. It felt like they had room to grow, and it felt like REAL people, rather than just being flawless. The main character especially caused a lot of plot issues because of her flaws, but this was handled in a realistic way, and it was clear that she knew she needed to overcome these issues herself. What more can you ask for in a character? It'd be boring if they were all perfect! The two sisters had an interesting and realistic dynamic in my opinion, and Simon was such a lovely character to watch. Wesker and Evelyn had a great dynamic too, I enjoyed watching their back-and-forth attitudes.

Overall, was this series perfect? Absolutely not. It definitely has room to improve if we get a season 2 (which I'm really hoping for, based on the way season 1 ended!). But I seriously did enjoy watching this series. It was such a fresh and unique take on the RE universe, and was so much better than I expected it to be. I hope that more people will give the series a chance, without being shackled to expecting it to be identical to the video games. Because it's not identical, and it never intended to be. So give it a chance, and you might enjoy it more than you expect! I'd probably rate this a 7.5/10 normally, but I'll round it up to an 8/10 because of the crazy amount of review bombing on here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Forzada, forzada, forzada y forzada.
