I enjoyed the show pretty well. the only critique I have, is that the jumping from 2022 to 2036 was jarring. if they had stuck with one story with minimal flashbacks it would have been better imo. I still give it an 8/10. I don't know why its getting so much hate.

As a huge RE fan for my entire life, I really did expect to dislike this. But I absolutely enjoyed it! It's not a faithful adaptation of the games, it's only loosely connected (since it takes place 20 years later), but it still felt like it took place in the RE universe. This series never intended to be a replica or copy of the video games, it always intended to be its own standalone thing, based on the game universe. So I'm not sure why everyone's so angry about that. If you wanted a series that is incredibly similar to the games then that's fine, but rather than reviewing this series for what it's NOT, why not review it for what it IS?

To me, this was a fun series, with great acting, an interesting story, and awesome set pieces. I really enjoyed seeing the two timelines of the story, it was exciting to watch the past of these characters, as they fought through the future apocalypse. The zombies were cool, but most importantly, the monsters were INCREDIBLE! There were so many huge monstrous zombie animals, and all of them were super unique, and REALLY felt like boss battles from the RE games. I loved seeing them all, they looked beyond awesome.

The characters were flawed, and not perfect, but I liked that. It felt like they had room to grow, and it felt like REAL people, rather than just being flawless. The main character especially caused a lot of plot issues because of her flaws, but this was handled in a realistic way, and it was clear that she knew she needed to overcome these issues herself. What more can you ask for in a character? It'd be boring if they were all perfect! The two sisters had an interesting and realistic dynamic in my opinion, and Simon was such a lovely character to watch. Wesker and Evelyn had a great dynamic too, I enjoyed watching their back-and-forth attitudes.

Overall, was this series perfect? Absolutely not. It definitely has room to improve if we get a season 2 (which I'm really hoping for, based on the way season 1 ended!). But I seriously did enjoy watching this series. It was such a fresh and unique take on the RE universe, and was so much better than I expected it to be. I hope that more people will give the series a chance, without being shackled to expecting it to be identical to the video games. Because it's not identical, and it never intended to be. So give it a chance, and you might enjoy it more than you expect! I'd probably rate this a 7.5/10 normally, but I'll round it up to an 8/10 because of the crazy amount of review bombing on here.

For the people that think they ruined Wesker, I've got to disagree, and found Wesker's performance to be the best amongst the crew. The weakest performance had to be Jade and Billie in the 2022 timeline of the show, especially Jade.

Great special effects, lickers, horrifying spiders, giant bugs, action is impressive and gory and the acting is solid. Personally I think resident evil needed a reboot after the appalling recent movie reboot. Its a good zombie show but wrong of the producers and netflix to wokeify the ip with a black wesker and remove the white characters that to me is racist and why I've not given it a 8.

Also, shows like this need a hygiene update for the Covid age. Covered in blood and you just flop down on the bed. No, you shower first. Other details too -- like a scientist or researcher would never say "that's disgusting" when someone spits into a petri dish

It is not going to win any awards but it is entertaining, despite what the fanboys are crying about.

Takes the RE universe and makes its own thing, but that is too hard for the herd to understand, so they review bomb it, in most cases after watching only 10 mins (if that).

I don't think I can continue past episode 1. Two teenagers open the front door of a top corporate research facility after hours, by playing a recording from a phone of a guy saying his name? The writing is so stupid it's offensive. Playing through the RE2 Remake right now for the first time, and the writing and plot development is leagues better in a video game.

I'm not even gonna get into the wokeness but it's there and is annoying. I don't know why Netflix cannot find competent writers since some of their shows are great. The main probelm here though is the story is just boring, but a lot of the special effects are good so there is that. Some cool RE like creatures here and there. Honestly, even the script in the games has way more going on than the plot of this show. Terrible, what a waste.

In a way, the project is like Umbrella's monsters: it's a chaotic mess. It's also like salted pop corn or chips; you can't stop consuming them, but it is still junk. It's another project that could have been rejected in order to fund a new season of Chambers, or The OA...

I think she did quite a good job, and I liked the twist at the end and that it included quite some "monsters" from the game. What again is a no go, is what I wrote about that they once more ignored the soul of the resident evil games, and heck why did they had to cast Albert Wesker black? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against black people nor against black actors, but when a character that you know since 1996 is absolutely manifested in the series and you know how he looks like and behave, it's a no go to just drop that and change the character entirely. I mean, I also don't want to see a white morpheus in matrix or a white wesley snipes in blade. Why can't they just stick to the source material? It contains more than enough to make a proper movie... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Within the first 5 minutes I gathered that the show has a relatively decent budget and yet the showrunners and crew don't have the talent to actually do anything proper with it. There is an air of cringe, corn, and amateurishness around the entire production and it reeks. Right off the bat, the "Jade" character of the future is a bad actress and the director has the camera right up in herWithin the first 5 minutes I gathered that the show has a relatively decent budget and yet the showrunners and crew don't have the talent to actually do anything proper with it. There is an air of cringe, corn, and amateurishness around the entire production and it reeks. Right off the bat, the "Jade" character of the future is a bad actress and the director has the camera right up in her face. It produces a very uncomfortable finished product that you just want to turn away from. Then Jade survives a run in with zombies that she should actually die from but the pack of zombies suddenly slows down for some reason and it causes her to only have to deal with one. Whatever.

From there, we go back in time to a couple of teenage girls and one of the first things we hear is brazenly racist complaint about there being too many white people in this South African location. Whatever.

From there a bunch of teenage drama stuff happens and I don't care about any of it. What is actually notable is the absolutely AWFUL musical score. Some of the scenes actually could have had tension if the music had been done right. It's totally bizarre how bad it is. Whatever.

I could go on and on. The woke ideology has utterly ruined Hollywood and everybody with two eyes can see that. Let's go through the pattern that this show fits shall we?

    - Exploit a franchise with a built in fan base and create a product that is completely different. Check.
    - "Strong" women of color that actually come off as obnoxious and way too masculine. Check.
    - Not a single trace of femininity in female characters. Check.
    - Insanely hypocritical "Woke" messaging that openly hates white people. Check.
    - Are men of any color (especially fathers), demonized, put down, or emasculated? Check. I especially love the scene where Dr. Wesker's daughter Jade walks into the house, curses at her father, proceeds to hit his tablet which is on a work call, storms upstairs, and Dr. Wesker being the weak father that he is, literally does NOTHING. No discipline and no discussion about what just happened. Later on, Dr. Wesker openly says that "I'm not much of a father" right in front of his own child. Which is total nonsense because he is a single father who is providing a life of privilege for his children and no self respecting father would say those words in front of his child but whatever.
    - Broken moral code from the writing team who is likely comprised of rich people who live in a Hollywood bubble and have never actually experienced any real hardship. Check. Take for instance the scene where Jade Wesker is rude and makes demands to the man that just helped save her from being killed by a giant caterpillar. Is this supposed to be endearing?
    - Characters being race swapped for no reason? Check.

I am sure I could make this checklist longer but that covers a lot of it.

EDIT: I'm on episode 3. Oh. My. GOD. Yes, there are elements of the show that I do like; the lickers in the tunnel and the giant spider. The corrupt FDA/big pharma story elements with Umbrella. However, I want to pull my hair out with Billie and Jade hiding intensely important things from their father. So, I'm supposed to believe that a 14 year old girl would be experiencing intense symptoms after being bitten by an infected dog and would subsequently hide all of it from her father WHO IS A **** DOCTOR and worked on the dog himself. Kids are dumb but they aren't this dumb. Billie would have stayed at home and told her dad everything about what she was experiencing. But no....they have us watch her embarrass herself at school and it's just a total contrivance. I'm done. I can't go on.
