Although "Prey" may not be the prime of the UK police dramas it is exciting and enjoyable on a visceral level. The average programming from the UK is still heads and shoulders above anything on the broadcast networks in the US. The acting is excellent even though the dialogue is not quite tight enough. I enjoy the cat and mouse play between the characters. Fun to watch.

Despite its familiar premise, Prey is an engrossing, dynamic series, a testament to the sturdiness of the tropes it’s driven by as well as Lunt’s ability to play with and execute ideas so many have others explored.

Series creator and writer Chris Lunt’s plots are more comfort food than cutting-edge, but not since Helen Mirren’s epic run in “Prime Suspect” has there been such a flawed, compelling female detective.

These episodes hold interest without being riveting. But Cavaliero is compelling as a dogged, under pressure gumshoe who in this case might remind some seasoned TV watchers of Lt. Philip Gerard from The Fugitive.
