Incorporating the pandemic is a risk for any TV series, but P-Valley isn't the type of show that takes the easy way out. COVID-19's crushing effect on the working-class residents of Chucalissa is particularly chilling for Keyshawn (Shannon Thornton). ... "Miss Rona" may be a formidable foe, but she's no match for P-Valley's Mississippi queens.

There is an easy confidence to P-Valley that makes it an utter pleasure to watch. Season two is funnier than the first, going further into its campiness, but it also feels as if it is now fully at ease with itself. There is a glut of prestige television, but this is a standout that is well worth tracking down.

Through the first half of the 10-episode second season, on top of its various storytelling pleasures, P-Valley proves a more-than-capable vehicle through which to process a complicated moment in history.

The series still wields the core elements that make it such an invigorating, subversive watch. But P-Valley is trying to do so much via splintered subplots, it’s missing the consistency and cohesion that drove the first season.
