Lots of wasted potential here. Long story short, they managed to make an interesting premise very boring by largely ignoring the most interesting thing the show had going for it and replacing it with... well, nothing.

This poorly written show is teeming with cliché characters and the dialogue is mostly generic filler to drag the plot out so they could make more episodes. A short story expanded into a series by filling it in with imprudent obnoxious cardboard characters and noise. The music is horrid. So many writers in Hollycrap (and the other studios) these days are lame. Amazon should stick to losing packages, treating its workers contemptibly and sending billionaires to space. Valuable contributions to society. Expand

It's a decent show but does seem to lack focus. I'm excited to see a season 2 that can improve upon the first.

Outer Range is of the mixed genre modern-western, science-fiction. If you do not enjoy one of those genres, you probably won't enjoy Outer Range.

The casting, acting, directing, editing, cinematography are all very good. I'm withholding judgement on the writing.

The plot and the overall story arc are obviously developing and are in set-up phases this being the first season. If you require your TV series to answer all questions by the end of each episode, you will be very disappointed. You may as well accept it may take several seasons to receive closure on various things that happen in the first season.

The plot is not simple and the issues it raises are not simple. If you don't like to think too much when watching film you probably will not enjoy Outer Range.

I like it a lot. Great performances, intense and brilliantly shot scenes as well as a sci-fi/mystery twist makes Outer Range worth watching in my opinion. I hope they do a second season because I need answers.

I found it very compelling. Good acting and a mix of different genres made for a very interesting watch. Hopefully it finds an audience and we can get another season.

The scenes are filled with needlessly evasive conversations that go nowhere and add nothing to the plot, making it difficult to feel or build a connection to the characters or story. I tried grabbing on to something, but there was no shock, no thrills, and little to no intrigue. As the plot begins to unfold, It starts to feel like the directors worked against each other in telling this story. I would love to see all of these actors brought together again for a good story with a more seasoned team of writers and directors. As always, if you made it this far, thanks for reading, and if you watch this series, let me know what you think.

Keep it interesting, Stay Channel Surfing!

It tries very hard to be “Twin Peaks” in tone sometimes, but it takes it self too seriously. The “what a twist” moments are somewhat obvious and the CGI animals that show up from time to time looked awful. They took me out of the show. They should have cut most of the CGI animal interactions that happened. There’s not a lot of action, but the acting is pretty good. I think what had my interest was that you couldn’t quite tell what morality any of the characters had and I found that very interesting. I can’t recommend this unless maybe you’re from a small western town and you want to feel nostalgic for ranch or farm life. Expand

Man this show has NO idea what it wants to be. Wife and I agree that the music choices might be the worst in ANY show we have ever watched. Distractingly awful.

It also seems to stubbornly want to say a LOT about God, faith, religion, etc.
Man this show has NO idea what it wants to be. Wife and I agree that the music choices might be the worst in ANY show we have ever watched. Distractingly awful.

It also seems to stubbornly want to say a LOT about God, faith, religion, etc. But its all cynical, critical, and stereotypically Hollywood nihilism. A few of the characters are fairly interesting (Royal, Joy, maybe a couple of others). But at least half of the main cast are annoying and you can't wait for them to be off screen.

Wife and I are still strong defenders of Lost (warts and all) but this puzzle box is a MESS. Instead of building on explaining different plot lines and mysteries, it says "forget those previous two dozen, because here come another dozen more!"
Not a spoiler, but when the wife takes a dead bear cub to a tool shed, comes back to it days later (and it still seemingly isn't rotting or decomposing) and puts her hand it its mouth and forces its jaw to bite down on her hand....AND IT IS NEVER EXPLAINED WHY OR FOR WHAT PURPOSE....I mean....its just dumb. Big disappointment.

Loved it! Really entertaining and makes you think. Good actors, good production. Special effects were not great but the story made up for it.

A slow burn that might frustrate viewers with ADD, but if you like things that keep you guessing and hypothesizing, this type of science fiction and the way it's delivered, it's just solid gold for heady sci fi fans. Great editing too, which also keeps one guessing harder. Expand

That sets up the sci-fi expectations, but what really transpires is a crime drama. The comparisons to Yellowstone will be inevitable: Gruff rancher with a tough family (including Lily Taylor), border disputes, a dash of Native American flavor and a murder. While the abyss promises mysterious developments, every episode drops a tiny surprise near the end to encourage watching the next one. That means sitting thru the other stuff in hopes of a hint of explanation (doesn't happen). The personal conflicts are moderately interesting, but not really compelling enough to wait around for the big reveal. (Review based on 4 of 8 episodes). Expand

A good start for these first two episodes. Mysteries, convincing actors (Josh Brolin at the top). Promising series. I don't understand the 60 meta from the pros.
