I feel like I'm missing something with Outcast, I find the characters dull and uninspiring, the plot painfully slow and it's as if every time a character makes a decision it's the worst one at the worst time. As for each and every kid it's like the writers just don't even try with them they literally wonder off at every opportunity, it's just so sloppy and contrived, they could do so much better. The whole premise for the show and the cast has the potential for excellence but falls short. I honestly find myself rooting for the demons at least the do things not just wonder around angsty saying I need to protect my family. Expand

This slow boil approach yields poignant, aching performances from a cast that includes the late Reg E. Cathey as the morally solid chief of police, the extraordinary Philip Glenister as the town’s combative reverend, and Brent Spiner, loading his outwardly pleasant demeanor with a foul malice.

The exorcisms still pack a powerfully violent punch, but the oppressively downcast tone turn shivers into yawns. [23 Jul - 5 Aug 2018, p.11]
