Not a fan. This show is really too long for me, I'm a 38 year old man with exquisite taste in media and almost all the characters here are simply boring. Please spend your time watching something better, I recommend anime shows like: We BearNot a fan. To start off with, I am a huge fan of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, so I don't think it's any surprise that I do enjoy One Piece.

It's a fairly colorful anime that does a prety good job of changing stuff up... For awhile anyways. After about 100 episodes, it's become pretty clear to me what to expect from the show. I enjoy most of the unqiue, creative characters from the anime, but I really, REALLY dislike Luffy. The manga was being written around the same time Dragon Ball Z was enjoying a spike of popularity and Luffy's character shares a lot of traits with Goku.

To begin with Luffy is always eating. I don't really know where this became a anime trope, but it's like way, way over done. Next, Luffy is an idiot. 90% of the conflicts the characters face in the show are directly related to Luffy being an idiot. I would say that some plotlines rely on this character flaw. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece, but he's not a hero, or so he claims. He claims to be a pirate, but he is constantly behaving the complete oppsite of how you'd expect pirates to behave, that includes the pirates in the actual anime. Luffy also tends to be a jerk. He's hot headed, refuses to listen to anyone, tresspasses, steals and destroys property without any consideration for anyone else unless it suits the plot. There was one episode where Luffy is out exploring the desert and he finds a dwelling out in the middle of no where, he starts looking for food and when doesn't find any, he begins to burn a powder that causes rain. This is a set up for a plot line later on, but I mean seriously, what kind of jerk tresspases and then burns property that doesn't even belong to them?

Luffy's concept of ownership only applies when it suits him. I would go as far as to say Luffy is probably the worst character in the anime.… Expand
