"Underbelly" has got some good, (no - I won't say "belly") laughs, but you've got to wonder what happens if the show's a success.
-
Underbelly eschews cliche and makes pregnancy surprisingly laughable.
-
Unexpectedly, it's funny. And it gets funnier and sharper in future episodes.
-
It's different, it's droll, it's quirky, it's funny.
-
It’s a more-than-solid cast, which is half the battle.
-
The show just kind of rolls along, never quite provoking you to change the channel but never providing any great reason to pay attention either.
-
"Underbelly" does indeed aim narrow, likely appealing only to those who are pregnant or have recent memories of it.
-
The cast has an ordinariness that's a little too believable. [16 Apr 2007, p.43]
-
The only thing missing is fresh, smart, unpredictable humor.
-
"Notes" feel[s] like a number of other sitcoms about couples who hail from Mars and Venus, respectively, and adds little to the discussion beyond stretch marks.
-
Occasionally sharp as an epidural needle, often dumb as a pea pod, sometimes half decent.
-
There's nothing particularly awful... But there's nothing particularly right about it either, and laughs are spotty at best.
-
It's another one of those dismissable, disposable, oh-so-slight comedies.
-
Forget the epidural, you'll need laughing gas, stat.
-
Clearly, "Notes" plans to explore the fear, joy and ridiculousness that parenthood inspires in so many of us, relying on the quirks of the characters to infuse this with sass and humor. But none of the characters seems up to the task.
-
There's no sign of passion here; it's all awkward.
-
All this obvious plot about baby showers, maternity peeing and big-belly clothing is unbearable.
-
A lackluster show about a conflicted mother-to-be and her annoying and oblivious husband that mostly provides ammunition to those who argue that Hollywood is out of touch with the real world.
-
Nearly everything feels stale in this sitcom.
-
There’s nothing especially novel or insightful, let alone funny, about the show’s take on impending parenthood.
-
[It] recycles all the comedy cliches of pregnancy.
-
No cliché is unexplored, no supporting character is allowed to resemble an actual person.
-
It is one of the worst sitcoms on the air.
-
Revolting.... Watch and you’ll lose your appetite for life.
