The same cliches we see in every teenage dramas. The same jokes, same drama , this time with an indian protagonist. The ending of this series is so excruciatingly painfull to watch I took breaks in between the 27 min episode unable to handle the cringe that I've been subjected to. The show ends with a kiss, yeah.. I'm not even kidding. I don't want to go into spoiler territory because this show doesn't deserve it, the actors did well for a teenage drama, the characters are cookie cutter, predictable and specially written for a teenage drama. There are some scenes that I liked l though, There is a scene where the character will come out as gay (spoiler. I don't care) which is handled really well. Other than that, total **** show. The title doesn't even make sense to the contents of the show! 'never have I ever'? It's a complete marketing strategy. The John McEnroe's narration was really great, but it was wasted potential as the narration is given less screen time as the show goes on. You might've noticed me using the word teenage drama alot, BECAUSE IT IS ONE. AND NOTHING MORE. it is sometimes funny, and that's it. Every episode ends with a cool soundtrack that no one knows and begins just the same! Why am I even angry at this show?.moving on. cinematograpy? Bland. screenplay? Bland. Comedy? Okay, and good in some episodes. Plot? No one cares. Script? Awful! The last episode is just downright disrespectful to writers in general. Potential sequel? Definitely, it's Netflix we're talking about. None of the show is worth your time, you can't trust an online stranger with 'Ball_fondler ' as a username but believe me i've been through some **** This show has quite an inclusive cast. Asian, black , indian, and appeals to all genders. Which I'm not opposed to whatsoever. But the indian cast is just a ploy into making you think this is different, it's not! I don't have anything against the actors by making the previous statement. What more..? Yeah , the other three people that wrote reviews gave a positive rating. I'm gald they enjoyed the show even though it's hot garbage but what do I know. You might think I'm racist by giving this a bad review, before raging FYI I'm indian so... Gotcha!. Anyways don't watch it. Expand

But as an Indian I watched it with horror. So much of what liberal Indians in India are trying to do, this inane show moved away from: by promoting arranged marriages with people of the same caste, a casual stereotyping of older Indians, an acceptance of deeply misogynistic Indian 'traditions', and so on. If this 'represents' Indian-American communities in any real fashion then I can only feel real pity for the children growing up in them. (Also, who goes to priests to get books blessed? This is total tripe and I don't know anyone who does it, one among just many nonsensical details in the show). Expand

The hackneyed, cumbersome narration by McEnroe was the initial red flag: the writing's so mindless instead of introducing characters organically through the story's progression, we are hammered w/ heavy-handed introductions--I suppose they find this whimsical and endearing in its formulaic presentation as implicitly nostalgic of children's books... as if we should aspire to the sophistication of kindergarten entertainment. Moving on, the second red flag was the inevitable mention of "racism," as we can't have any sort of Lib entertainment these days without having our light-hearted diversion interrupted by some mythical social justice theory (also highly aspirational w/ the analytical depth of, once again, kindergarten). And then, the final nail was the second mention of racism, this time qualified by the adjective "systemic," which i always find amusing since most Libs mistakenly substitute "systematic" as evidence they're just mindlessly regurgitating words w/o even inspecting their meaning and implications (don't even get me started on socialism). I do find it amusing how Mindy Kaling can be a proponent of the belief of a permeating system of oppression contingent purely on race when she's by all objective measures wildly successful; it boggles the mind and baffles the spirit. It's tantamount to being locked in Whole Foods and declaring yourself malnourished. It goes w/o saying, but for the sake of my own prolix self-satisfaction I will, there are superior young-adult dramadies. I suggest Search Party starring Alia Shawkat from Arrested Development--a nice hidden gem. P.S. I wonder how long this cultural phase of indulging illusory oppression will last and what will happen to the careers of all the imbecilic lemmings and grifters once we move onto the next very important, transitory thing. The Jewish characters are mishandled, the LGBTQ characters are derivative especially in season 1, and the main character Devi is sometimes insufferable. Plus, when you strip away the admittedly groundbreaking Indian representation and witty writing, the typical high school antics in the script are very unoriginal and uninspired. Expand

Like many adolescent comedies, she's obsessed with boys and being cool, but one thing that sets this apart is that the cast is refreshingly full of ethnic diversity. Besides the insights into how her culture affects her family, it also provides some enjoyable supporting characters. The tone is sweet with a bit more sass than many teen shows and also includes a dark underpinning. While the jokes aren't sitcom easy, there are plenty of lighthearted interactions and some of the best punch lines are almost throwaways. It's also fun having John McEnroe as the narrator. A bonus: These actors more or less look their age. There's even a dig at Riverdale, where many of the high schoolers are in their 30s. Expand

I think this is Mindy Kaling's best work ever. It wasn't shrill or (bad) cringey or shallow or gratuitously sexual, like a lot of teen-centric shows can be, it just felt very genuine. It was definitely worth binging. Expand

Amazing series, fun, deep, everything you could want. Sure, it has some cliches, but they are way too small to be considered cringy.

I love this serie! Very funny but touching Divertente ma al tempo stesso toccante in alcuni argomenti trattati; certo, una serie leggera, adolescenziale, ma promossa a pieni voti

This show is now in its 4th very good season but there's narrow minded individuals with some sort of axe to grind who watch a few minutes of episode 1, Season 1, and then condemn it for jaw-dropping, head-scratching reasons and give it a 0. Almost any movie, tv show, album, or video game has at least some value. If you sat down to watch a movie and all you got was a blank screen for 2 hours, well then that would be a 0. Any content from the 4 categories rated here deserves at least a little credit for the simple fact that somebody went to the time, trouble, and expense to create said content. If after watching that content and at least giving it a chance (and how can you judge something by watching the 1st 15 minutes) if you then are convinced it's no good, it should still deserve at least SOME score. At least 1 or 2 if you really hated it but giving something a 0 IMO ruins the ratings that some more objective, unbiased people give it. I don't remember any of the critics dishing out too many 0's, if any. It would indicate the critics normally have a better understanding of what their watching or listening to or what their playing, as opposed to some of the clowns with an ulterior motive and questionable taste when it comes to how they view things in this messed up world we live in. Anyhow, I've watched every episode of all the 1st 3 seasons of NEVER HAVE I EVER...and am about halfway through the 4th and final season and I can honestly say I've enjoyed each and every show. Somebody will always complain about something, especially in this day and age but I can truly say that when I reach the end of season 4 I'll be sorry that it's over. Expand

NEVER HAVE I EVER S1 (NETFLIX)

I absolutely fell in love with show from the first few moments. Brought to us by the uber talented Mindy Kailing. The show centers on an Indian American girl whose desperate to loise her virginity to her high school crush. The show is hilarious and heartfelt and the star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is everything. All the supporting actors are great as well from the hunky Daren Barnet, cutie Jaren Lewinson, Richaa Moorjani as her feisty cousin, Pooma Jagnnathan as her hilarious mother and Ramona Young and Lee Rodriguez as her hysterical friends. And how could I forget the awesome Niecy Nash as her sassy psychiatrist. I really hope they renew this for season 2 because it was so great I watched it twice back to back.

This is definitely a show I wish was around when I was a teenager. It perfectly sums up life as a teen, especially one who has suffered a great loss. It's funny, it's sad, it's everything you'd want in a Netflix coming-of-age show.
