Mythic Quest reminds us of how wonderful it can be to dip back into a comedy series that has so much to say about, and so much passion for, its actual subject matter.

Season 2 sees the writing team pulling almost all the right levers.

The jokes don’t always land, and when they do, they’re still fairly low-hanging. Still, Mythic Quest is more than its occasionally unfunny, occasionally hilarious sense of humor. ... Fortunately, skirting spoilers, the ending of Season 2 is, in a word, promising. The future of Mythic Quest is ripe with opportunities for these characters to grow.

It’s a talented enough ensemble that the “let’s see what happens” feel of some of the writing and plotting still makes for enjoyable comedy, but it also feels like a show that’s just a step away from greatness, and so it can be frustrating to feel like it’s falling slightly short of its potential. Hopefully, a less infectious third season could find that focus.

It’s good enough. ... Some of the developments are more successful than others, but that hit-or-miss quality doesn’t detract from the overall giddiness of the nine episodes.
  6. The pieces are often compelling on their own, but the show struggles to make Ian and Poppy’s ongoing creative challenge seem like it’s happening in the same world as Jo’s silly and unhinged power play between David and Brad, or the interpersonal developments between the testers Rachel and Dana. ... Especially in the later episodes, Mythic Quest starts to nail the tricky tonal dance it has to do in its treatment of the art at the center of the show.

I'm no fan of video games, but I'm hooked on the sardonic silliness of Mythic Quest. [10 - 23 May 2021, p.9]

Sitcoms, [unlike dramas] though, have more of a learning curve, which is why the second seasons of shows like Always Sunny or The Office are so much better than their first. Mythic Quest fits neatly into that tradition, having translated a lot of its potential energy into real, kinetic laughter.

Too often there’s something disposable about “Mythic Quest,” but those C.W. episodes nearly broke me. It’s a tremendous achievement buried inside something that has the potential to be so much more.

This show is trash. The comedy is woke recycled nonsense baked in with lesbian romance.
