Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean succeeds because it’s nicely-paced, with moving graphics filling in information where a narrator might in similar docuseries. It also succeeds because of the access director/producer Mike Connolly got to important people in DeLorean’s story during the era when he designed his now infamous car. ... Where the docuseries really shines is in the footage that Pennebaker’s family provided. It fills in the other blanks that most docuseries have to use reenactments to fill.

It’s a credit to the filmmakers that both John DeLoreans come across so powerfully in this unorthodox and fully involving three-part series. Even his most sympathetic champions have to concede that the man was as smooth as stainless steel and equally impenetrable.

There is nothing new or revelatory in this documentary, I suspect, to anyone with a working knowledge of DeLorean or his rise and fall. The overall story, and its ending, is one of the oldest in the world. But it bears retelling – and this is a stylish retelling, at least – if only because we don’t seem to be any closer to learning the story’s many lessons.
