Underneath all the awkward lines and thudding musical stingers, it turns out, is a solidly enjoyable teen drama, bolstered by a winsome cast, some nice chemistry and an endearingly earnest love of street racing.
-
Except for the cars sprinkled on top, it’s old stuff, not very deep, but produced with an engaging naturalism that rounds off the narrative extremes, enhances what’s commonplace and makes “Motorheads” easy to watch.
-
Does Motorheads sound like a very mid show? Sure. But it’s a well-done mid show, which is all we’re asking for as far as teen shows are concerned.
-
Repeatedly sputters through laughably bad lines (“Tell your lesbo sister to stay away from my girlfriend!”), even clunkier exposition (“I mean, your dad just lost her,” Alicia reminds Harris of his dead mother) and mediocre effects (an obviously CGI-ed bird omen, for one). .... The extent that the show works is credit to a winsome cast of new faces, particularly Cimino, Collazo, Shelton and Nicolas Cantu.
-
While the core foursome—including the twins, Curtis and Marcel—remains fairly interesting, secondary characters — like Harris, his best friend Noah (Myles Erlick) and countless others who remain on the story’s fringes — are hardly developed as characters.
