This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I like the premise but think this would have worked much better as just a cheesy horror show. The finished product attempts to go deep on religion/fanaticism & addiction, but it does so with hardly any style or nuance. An example of this is when the town alcoholic, recently sober, is standing in the general store taking a long look at a cooler full of Old Milwaukee beer. The town sheriff, who arrests him every time he's on a bender (a seemingly consequence free interaction), is standing behind him slightly menacingly. This is how a 12 year old would write a scene in which an alcoholic confronts their demons. Riley's character is just insufferable. The basic idea--he used to be a 'why would God let this happen' guy, and now he's a 'there is no God' guy who feels like he has no purpose. Somehow, elaborating on this cliche has to take up almost an entire episode worth of monologues. A bit more about the religion aspect of this show. Maybe this is my atheism talking, but I'm not sure how interesting discussions of religion is without strong philosophical counterpoint or support. A show like True Detective brought that discussion to such a high level that people have blogged endlessly and written books about it. (WHY DID GOD LET TRUE DETECTIVE SEASON 2 HAPPEN?!??) If you like this show, I bear you no ill will, but I would just ask you the following questions before you leave a positive review: 1)Do any of the characters have compelling duality? (aside from the physical trait of being a vampire)
2)Are there any questions that are posed by the narrative that can't be found on a low quality daytime soap opera.
3)Is there any character who does anything without first holding up a sign announcing their intentions? Again, I would have loved this if if were just a gory movie about a priest/monster who eats people. I would have enjoyed that very much, and gone elsewhere for my serious drama/questioning my place in the universe needs.

Weird. Stupid. Boring. OVERLY mysterious. Slow. Draggy. But at least this insufferable proves my point that you radical religious people are a sick, twisted bunch!

Killing cats in the first episode and so unnecessary. Definitely not the kind of storytelling to hook someone. No thanks, I pass.

Story started out ok but rapidly tanked. Simply awful nonsense. Save yourself the time and watch something else!
