The result is three episodes that are a shining example of the control and creativity that leads to improv so impressive, it feels as though it must have been written, but with enough spontaneity and stifled giggles to remind the audience that they’re witnessing something completely original. But unlike live improv, these are now moments that can be relived again and again.

If actors believe comedy is hard, then improv comedy is harder. Translating a live improv comedy show to a TV audience? That’s double-diamond difficulty. And Middleditch and Schwartz are among comedy’s moguls.

You simply can’t review improv the way you would a scripted production, but the series excels within the form's different rules: it’s funny, it’s sharp, and the energy of the performers is as exciting as their creativity.
